Chapter 10 The Rogue

I never thought having a mate could be this amazing. That is what I was feeling, amazing and so was Ace, until Jax mindlinked me about the rogue we caught. Cole finally managed to get him talking. I left Rebekah in my, no scratch that, in our room and all I wanted was to run back to her.

I reach the dungeons and see Kaden and Jax talking to each other. Kaden looks a second away from killing the rogue and Jax is serious? Jax is serious. Not a good sign. s**t I should have been able to understand that when I received his message but I was too ignorant of everything. As soon as they notice me they turn around.

"He says that you found your weakness, they will too and when they do, they will kill you and her as well." Jax says without missing a beat and I go still by his words.

Kill her.

Kill her?

Rebekah?

Hell no.

She can't be my weakness and even if she is I'll never let anyone reach her.

"You found your mate last night Alpha. No other king has ever had a mate. If this isn't some wicked twist in the prophecy, then I don't know what this is?" Kaden says and when I point over to Jax, he simply says that he told Jax and Cole about the stupid prophecy.

I take a chair and place it right in front of the rogue before sitting. I point my dagger at him. It's my favorite, to say the least, it is way too sharp and has wolvesbane in it. With it's red hilt, it's a piece of art.

"Who the hell are 'they'?" I ask him bringing the dagger closer to his neck. He doesn't even moves an inch but what he says next make me want to cut him in pieces and feed him to other rogues we'll catch eventually.

"You will find out soon and when you do she will be the first one to die. Enjoy your time with her while you can because you don't have much. They know you found a mate and they'll stop at nothing from killing her- and she will be dea-d s.soo-on-" I slice open his neck before he could finish that sentence.

There is no chance in hell someone can kill me. I am the Alpha King, I am invincible. Some rogue organization or whoever the 'they' are will have to do a lot more than sending me threats like this to kill me. And as for Rebekah. She is safe with me and I would do everything in my power to keep her safe.

"What? You just kill him like this? He could have been useful, Aaron" Kaden says getting out of the cell with now a pool of blood.

"I think that was the right thing to do. What if he was reporting everything to his leader somehow?." Jax says following Kaden out.

I take one last look at the rogue and see a tattoo, I missed before. Right under his ear, there is a tattoo of a droplet.

'Could be a brand or something.' Ace speaks finally.

'Maybe. There's only one way to find out.'

I walk out of the dungeon and tell Kaden about it. He leaves at once to find about it, leaving me with Jax. Gone is the serious Jax and right in front of me is the one I love and loathe at the same time.

"So you found a mate? How is she? Where is she? How is Ace taking the news? I want to meet her and so does Rose. Everyone is so excited to meet her. But-" he shoots question after question but stop and gives a concerning look before continuing,"-but you are happy right? I mean, it's not something you were looking forward to. Oh my God! You didn't reject her did you? God. Is that why you are here right now and not with her? Fuc-" I stop him before he overthinks everything.

Who am I kidding? He knows me too well. And I did reject the mate bond, thankfully it didn't work.

"Yes, I found a mate. She is the most beautiful woman I've ever met. She is in our room. Ace is loving the idea of having a mate. You and Rose can meet her anytime you want. And, yes I am happy. As for the rejection part, I did reject her because I was scared and beyond shock, but the rejection didn't work and I can't thank enough for it. I am here right now because you called me about a possible threat to the whole kingdom." I answer each and every single question of his and he gives me a different look at each of them but settles for a goofy smile at the end.

"Sorry I called you in urgency. I just couldn't digest the whole 'killing you' part. And Cole was also not here. He is gone to visit his mother in the pack clinic." Jax says scratching the back of his neck.

"It's alright. Nothing is supposed to change. If something happens which needs my attention, you call me, no matter where I am or what I am doing. Got it?" I say to him and he simply nods and asks if they can meet Rebekah.

"Of course, you can. I am not gonna lock her or something. I am bringing her to the dining room and make sure Steve is there too, he'd like to see her. He was not happy that his daughter is my mate."

"I will tell him and I'll also ask the kitchen to make something he would like. Maybe it would help you." Jax says playfully and adds a small salute before walking away.

I make my way back to our room and when I don't see her there, fear settles in my chest and Ace starts fighting me for control. The rogue, of all people, definitely made me realize, what it means having a mate. But before I let my control slip, I catch her smell coming from the closet. Relief washes over me and I automatically go to her.

She looks sad and scared about something but as soon as she notices me, her expression changes and she gives me a smile that made me all giddy. I walk towards and give her a kiss on her forehead before taking her to the dining room.

I have roamed these corridors my whole life and they were always dull and dead, but being here with Rebekah, makes them look full of life. I will be damned of I let her go. I look down at her and she is looking at everything, taking everything in.

She stops abruptly after a painting and when I follow her sight I give her hand a squeeze and when she finally looks at me, I feel my whole world stopping.

I don't know what Steve had told her about her mother or how much? and I genuinely don't know what to tell her either.

'Just tell her the truth.' Ace speaks before howling in pain. He can feel the pain in Rebekah' eyes, just like I can but she doesn't asks anything and continues walking. I take her hand and lead the way as she is walking in the wrong direction.

"Will you answer me honestly? If I ask you about my mom? Or anything?" She asks in a very small voice.

"Of course, love. I'll tell you anything you want to know." She smiles at the nickname I just gave her.

"Good, because I will definitely ask you a lot of questions but after I eat something." She says giving her stomach a pat.

"And I will answer every single one of them." I say giving her a kiss on her knuckles.

'She is letting me hold her hand without saying that I am burning her and is letting me kiss her. Isn't that progress?' I ask Ace to which he only laughs and asks me to mark her soon.

'I will, eventually.' I tell him and shut him off. He wants to mark her so that she is connected to us via mind link. She is not a werewolf but she is still me mate and if I mark her, we can talk to each other through the mate link and I wouldn't get a heart attack, like I got in the morning, when I didn't see her in the room.

We reach the dining room and Steve jumps out of his seat and hugs Rebekah. Father and mother, both give me a nod. When Steve lets go of Rebekah, I pull her chair next to mine and make her sit with me. Steve gives me the 'dad eyes' and I give him a silent nod in acknowledgement. He may not say the words right now but I know what he means.- 'hurt my daughter and see what I do to you'.

He has got nothing to worry about. I will never hurt her.
