Eve stared at the top of the stairs, debating whether to follow or leave Kane alone. It was her fault he had attacked his friend. Kane hadn’t known it was her sister with Jake. Steph had surprised her when she called this morning and said she was in Bellingham. Steph finally dumped Mark because once again he bailed on her and she couldn’t take his empty promises anymore.
It didn’t surprise Eve that he’d flaked out, but she was surprised her sister was here. Steph normally just called her and vented for a while, then hid in her apartment with a carton of ice cream and wine. Instead, she’d made the hour-and-a-half drive to be with her.
Steph was eager to get out of town and said it would be easier to be close to help with documents.
