Fears

Mike’s wolf raced through the forest, each stride fueled by an instinct he couldn’t ignore. The dense trees blurred past him, but his senses were sharp, and his heart pounded with an urgency he hadn’t felt in years. He had always feared that something like this could happen once she came back here. He knew that he was not the only one who could sense the power of her wolf radiated from within yet she herself could not feel it.The prophecy that had haunted him for so long was now catching up to him. When he was at the council meeting earlier that day, he had heard whispers of a stranger entering his territory, and it had set him on edge. At first, he dismissed it as just another human passing through, but he also feared that it could be a rogue since they had recently increasingly tried to attack his people just to provoke his demons. Something about the situation gnawed at him.It led him to barging into Nora's grandparents house uninvited and rudely. But at the same time it was as if the house was pulling at his very soul. As he drew closer to the clearing, the sound of snarling reached his ears. His heart skipped a beat, and his blood ran cold. The rogues were here. Mike burst through the underbrush just in time to see a group of rogue wolves surrounding Nora by the stream. She stood frozen, her eyes wide with fear. A low growl rumbled in his chest as he shifted back into his human form, his body tensing for the fight. Without hesitation, he launched himself at the nearest rogue, tearing into it with savage precision. The battle was short, but brutal. The wolves scattered after Mike’s fierce attack, but not before one of them managed to knock Nora unconscious. As the last rogue fled, Mike dropped to his knees beside her. His breath caught in his throat as he gently cradled her body in his arms. “Nora...” he whispered, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His hands shook, not from the fight, but from fear. The scent he had recognized earlier—it was unmistakable now. She was the one.Now that he was close to her ,he couldn't deny it she was indeed the white wolf but also his other half. His fated mated. The one destined to change everything. His mind raced with the implications. She had been gone for so long, out of his life for years, and now she was here, in his arms, vulnerable and unaware of the world she had been born into. He had missed her more than he realized. The years apart had left an emptiness inside him that he now knew only she could fill. For a moment, he allowed himself to revel in the feeling of having her so close. His heart swelled with emotions he hadn’t allowed himself to acknowledge in years. He had always been drawn to her, even as a child, but now it was something more—something primal. His gaze dropped to her lips, and he felt an overwhelming urge to kiss her, to claim her as his. But just as he leaned in, Nora stirred. Her eyes fluttered open, and the world seemed to snap back into focus. Mike pulled back, his heart racing as she blinked up at him in confusion. You’re awake,” Mike said, his voice steady. Nora’s head throbbed as she tried to sit up, wincing from the pain. Her thoughts scrambled together as she remembered the wolves, the attack… “I was attacked,” she said, her voice shaky. “There were wolves, and—” “Shh,” Mike interrupted, shaking his head slightly. “You were just imagining things, Nora. There are no wolves out her." Mike quickly masked his emotions, the weight of the matter that the rogues had sensed her identity a few hours since her arrival pressing down on him once more. He couldn’t let her know the truth—not yet. “You must’ve been imagining things,” he lied, his voice steady but his heart heavy. “You fainted by the stream, and I found you. There were no wolves, Nora.” Nora’s brows furrowed in confusion. “But… I saw them. I felt them. They—” "You must have hit your head,” Mike said, his tone final. “There’s nothing to worry about. You’re safe now." She frowned, still disoriented but too exhausted to argue. “But I—” “Trust me,” he cut her off, his tone gentle but firm. “You’re safe now. Let’s get you back to your grandparents’ house.” As he lifted her into his arms, Mike couldn’t shake the feeling of dread settling over him. Others were starting to sense her presence , and there was no denying it any longer. It would only be a short time before his father knew about Nora because she was the one meant to change everything—the one he was supposed to get rid of. But how could he? How could he harm the girl he had always cared for, the girl who was now his fated mate? The path ahead was no longer clear, and for the first time in his life, Mike didn’t know if he had the strength to follow his father’s orders. As they walked back through the woods, one thought echoed in his mind: How could he ever let her go?
