MARRIAGE can be likened to a cage in which the birds outside want to go in, while those inside wants to come out. Like a letter, it is enveloped with love, sealed with vows, addressed with a golden pen of understanding, stamped with tolerance, posted with unity, received with happiness and read with joy.
Marriage is the illegal relationship between a husband and his wife that should last for a life time. It was instituted by God and He also gave the manual (Bible) to run the institution. It Involves love, prayer, choice, decisions, patience, obedience, tolerance, God's will, money, and determination. But Failure is the result of marriage focused on beauty, background, academic qualifications, wealth and procreation, but a God centered marriage is synonymous with success.
Individuals may marry for several reasons including Legal, social, emotional, financial, spiritual and religious purposes, whom they marry may be influenced by gender, social determined rules of incest, parental choice and individual desire. In some cases, arranged marriage, child marriage, polygamy and forced marriage are being practiced.
TYPES OF MARRIAGES
1. MONOGAMY: This is the type of marriage in which an individual has only one spouse during their lifetime ie one man and one woman
2. POLYGAMY: Is a marriage which includes more than two spouses ie when a man is married to more than one wife at a time and no marriage bond between the wives.
3. GROUP MARRIAGE: This is the type when the marriage includes multiple husbands and wives. It is also where more than two persons form a family unity with all the members of the group marriage being considered to be married to all the other members of the group marrying all members of the marriage share parental responsibility for any children arising from the marriage.
4. POLYGYNY: This is the type that grants wives equal status although the husband may have personal preferences ie where only one woman gets a wife's rights and status, while other women remain legal house mistresses.
5. POLYANDRY: This is the type of marriage that associate with particular paternity, the cultural belief that a child can have more than one father.
6. CHILD MARRIAGE: This is the type of marriage where one or both spouse are under the age of 18years. It is related to child betrothal and teenage pregnancy.
Many hidden characters have been discovered and their is no more Joy, instead endurance in place of enjoyments. Some couples today are regretting their marriage, some are known for Fighting, Nagging, Complaining, Hatred, Cases and Settlement. In some cases, marriages did not last up to two weeks before divorce.
Better marriage does not just happened, the two persons involved have their respective duties to perform to make it happen.
a. BOND: To build a stronger bond of friendship as a couple, flow together emotionally. Rejoice together and bear unhappy times together. Ensure that when there is something to rejoice about, you rejoice with your spouse and also when your spouse is in an unhappy State be there to bear the pain with him or her.
b. TEAM: The goal of marriage is to have two individuals with separate visions merge together as a team with a common vision and wholeheartedly play various roles to achieve that common vision together for their mutual benefit. Thinking and acting purely as an independent individuals after getting married kills the marriage bond. Renew your mind to accept the change that you are now a part of a team and not a separate individual and think and act and speak as such.
