(Brandy)
A few days passed, that felt like weeks honestly, but now it was all becoming real. I was loading my bags in the car, praying they would all fit. Alpha Shadow didn’t specify how long I would be needed, so I packed for the long haul. Asher had barely spoken to me, I tried to keep my mind off of it as I needed to focus. Loading the last bag, I get lost in thought, thinking about why this is so hard for Ash to cope with. I mean I am coming back.
You need to go talk to him -Midnights says, as she reads my mind, damn wolf. Do I get no private thoughts?I snarl. Not as long as you have me babes -she calls me that to butter me up, as that name makes me giddy. I rolled my eyes as I made my way into the Pack house, walking up to the Alphas floor hoping Ash was in his office.
Knock Knock
“Yes Brandy?” I heard a husky voice say.
I eased my way inside the door, not really having anything prepared to say. “Do you wanna go on a run?” I blurted out, I panicked and had nothing to say to him honestly. “I know you have your feelings about me leaving, but..but you icing me out isn’t fair and I need my best friend!” At this point I'm yelling as I try to hold back tears, while feeling embarrassed at my own emotions.
He doesn’t break eye contact with me as he slowly gets up from his desk, I feel him grab me and pull me forward into a massive hug. “Awe Brandy, I didn’t realize how selfish I was, it's not fair to you.” he says as he looks at me with his big brown eyes, so close I can feel his body heat radiating off of me.
I take a step back as I collect myself, even though I could have stayed in his arms forever. “Lets go running, we can run the East trail by the creek, I love the view from up there.” I say as I try to lighten the mood between us, “Tag your it.” I say with a laugh as I sprint out of his office, while unzipping my jacket. I hear him behind me saying that's not fair, but I’m too far ahead to care.
Once outside, I leap and shift while in mid air, a goddess that never gets old. I book it to the East, gliding through the forest, feeling invincible. I hear Midnight howling out loud as she's taking in the crisp afternoon air. I can feel my heart racing as I maneuver and dodge through the trees. With every breath I feel the cool air in my lungs. I hear howling in the distance, imagining it's probably Asher gaining on me. I turned over my shoulder and saw the pair of sky-blue eyes piercing at me, Finn. Asher has those big brown eyes. I call them cow eyes, but Finn has sky-blue eyes that remind me of the sea.
C'mon slow poke! I’m going easy on you - Midnight howls at Finn, who responds by giving a playful mid-air nip.
I think it’s Asher. He’s gaining some weight on me - Finn boasts, as I can only imagine the irritation in Asher's face. I scanned Finn's face for any hint, but nothing.
After a while, we reached the peak, we got to the stream. Midnight and Finn enjoyed some much needed water. I decide to shift back into my human form, confusing Finn, who is now looking at me with concern. I pay no mind as I go behind a tree and change into a sports bra and shorts I carried there. I emerged and looked at Finn, his eyes following me as I walked along the creek hopping on rocks. I dip my toe in before running at full speed ahead. Splash, I dive straight into the water. I laugh as I start treading water, splashing it at Finn, who looks very unimpressed. I saw him disappear for a second, thinking I had irritated him. Finn is a hot head, unlike Asher. Seconds later, I see Asher appear. My face lit up.
“ OK, I don’t have any clothes, I usually have stashes around the pack grounds, but I didn’t think we were swimming. He says as I see him holding a leaf over his junk, I have to put my face somewhat in the water, as I can feel my cheeks heat up. I got out of the water and went to the small pack I had brought with me. Oh goddess…
I started laughing out loud as I pulled out the only other thing I had. I look at him as I am holding some neon green sweatpants. “I mean, it’s either these, or you're going to partake in some skinny dipping.” I say as I feel my cheeks heat up again. He looks at me while raising an eyebrow. Why did I just say that? I really need to learn the whole foot in mouth thing.
I mean I can’t say that I mind -Midnight purrs as she's doing flips in my head. You're bad! - I scold as I continue holding these neon green pants.
He motions at me and I throw the pants, he catches them and I see him instantly turn red. After a minute, I saw him emerge, and, oh goddess, I want to say it was the best day of my life. The pants hung from his V-line as I see his calves are doing everything they can to contain him, all while you can noticeably see the once long sweats have turned into homemade shorts. I burst out laughing, tears were visibly streaming from my face.
I hear him growl in visible annoyance, but I don’t even care that nothing can ruin this moment. “If Jake or Luke ever find out, I think I might just kill you myself.” Gritting his teeth, I finally stop, I just want to swim, and I can’t make him feel too bad. We both pounce in the creek, taking in the cold Autumn water as I look over at Asher. I never want this to end.

I watched Brandy splash in the water, her hair flying everywhere, I couldn’t stop staring. Dude either kiss her already or stop ogling - I can hear Finn laughing in my head, stupid wolf, I growl. Don’t get mad at me for pointing out the obvious - he’s not wrong as much as I don’t want to admit it, but I can’t ruin what we have. I find myself getting lost in my thoughts, I feel someone smack my arm. I shook my head and saw Brandy looking at me.
“Hey wanna head up to the rocks, we can see the town from up there.” Her eyes lit up, which warmed my heart, I nodded as she led the way. We use the word ‘town’ to describe the human community. We wolves are friendly with them but we keep our identity hidden so as to not cause issues between worlds. Brandy grabs my hand, making me flinch a little, she flashes her eyes at me, giving me a soft smile. “ OK look! You can see the world from up here.” I looked over her shoulder. She wasn’t wrong, the scenery was breathtaking.
“Brandy, I can’t believe you found this spot. I have been around our entire pack and patrolled hundreds of times. I never knew about this place.”
“It’s been my hidden little oasis, I never wanted anyone to know. I stumbled upon it one day while practicing my tracking.” She says, not looking at me, I see her piercing green eyes looking into the horizon.
I grab Brandy’s wrist and turn her towards me, I just need her to know how I feel before she leaves. Don’t scare her -Finn growls in my head, and it makes me stop for a second. “I just wanted you to know, I will always be there for you, Silver Fox will always be your home.” I pause, trying to read her facial expressions before I continue. “I know my behavior has been odd to you the past few days, I was just trying to gather my own thoughts.” I see her expressions go soft, which makes me want to melt. “I guess what I’m trying to say is…. I was just scared of losing my best friend and didn’t know how to express that.” I saw her face slightly change. I know this isn’t what she was hoping I’d say, but I changed my mind. You i**t - Finn barks, I completely ignore him.
She turns without saying a word, just sits down. I copy her as I feel her putting her head on my shoulder. “Sometimes I think I could live up here, where life is free and simple.” She starts saying as I feel the softness in her tone, while slightly closing her eyes. “Sometimes I imagine I’m a bird soaring through the clouds, looking down on everyone and watching their stories play out.” She looks up to the sky with almost an eagerness about her, for a moment I feel as though she is unhappy. “If you found your mate, do you think you could live up there forever.” She points as if daydreaming, looking at her not sure if she wants me to answer.
I pull her close and kiss her forehead, taking in her wet hair and pine needle scent. “If I could live forever with the love of my life, there isn’t anywhere I wouldn’t go.” I sigh as I look at her while she continues to take in the view, if only she knew who I was really talking about.
