Chapter 9

As Lucifer's lips touched hers, Adelaide felt a rush of emotions. She closed her eyes, savoring the sweet scent of his cologne. But reality quickly snapped her back to attention, and she pushed him away, her heart racing. She turned and ran out of the room, leaving Lucifer to rough his hair in frustration. "Looks like I'm losing my mind," he muttered to himself. Meanwhile, Winter was seen smoking in a secluded spot, her mind replaying the guard's words. "The boss wants to see Adelaide." A calculating glint sparked in her eye. "He must be in love with that girl. Which will never happen. I need to do something about it," she muttered to herself. Just then, Renata approached her. "Hey, Winter," she called out, but Winter turned around, her gaze icy. "What do you want?" Renata pouted, "I always thought we could be friends." Winter's expression softened slightly, and she smirked. "You want to be friends? Then you'll work with me on something important. And we're starting now." Renata hesitated, but Winter's intensity was persuasive. "Is it that important to you?" Renata asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Are you in, yes or no?" Winter demanded. Renata nodded, and Winter's smirk grew. "Good. We're going to the boss's room, and you're going to retrieve his laptop. It's full of information about his work." Renata's eyes widened in alarm. "Winter," she whispered, but Winter's gaze brooked no argument. "Don't ever reject my request or consider yourself dead," Winter sneered, walking away with a confident stride. Renata watched her go, her hair ruffled in frustration. She was in a mess. Meanwhile, Adelaide had retreated to her room, her heart still racing from the encounter with Lucifer. "Why does he do this to me? Why does my heart beat faster whenever he's around? I have to start avoiding him," she told herself, trying to calm down. Just then, Cheng entered the room, looking for Lucifer. He found him smoking, his face a mask of calmness. "Hey, big bro, what's wrong?" Cheng asked, noticing Lucifer's tense posture. "I'm just getting too fast on her," Lucifer muttered, his eyes fixed on the floor. "I think I miss her. I want to talk to her, tell her about us." Cheng's expression softened. "Hey, brother, you need to calm down. You can't just go to her like that. Does she still have feelings for you?" he asked, his voice gentle. Lucifer's eyes flashed with frustration. "I don't know. That's why I need your help." Cheng nodded. "Okay, let's take it step by step. At least she's here with you now. Just protect her and let things unfold naturally." Lucifer nodded, taking a deep drag on his cigarette. Cheng chuckled. "Wow, you're really frustrated because of love. I never thought I'd see the day. And to make matters worse, Tatiana accepted my proposal." Lucifer's eyes narrowed. "Who's Tatiana?" Cheng grinned. "My crush. Don't worry about it, bro. You have your own problems to deal with." Lucifer's expression turned cold. "You're just a kid, Cheng. You don't know what love is. What if you find your mate? What will you do then?" Cheng scoffed. "I don't care about that mate business. I love Tatiana, and I'm going to make her mine." Lucifer's eyes flashed with anger. "You're playing with fire, Cheng. She's just a human. You don't know what you're getting yourself into." The tension between them was palpable, and Cheng's smile faltered. "Hey, calm down, bro. I'm just trying to live my life." But Lucifer was beyond reason. "Get out. I don't want to repeat myself," he growled, his voice low and menacing. Cheng's eyes narrowed, but he knew better than to push Lucifer's buttons. "Fine. I'll leave. But don't think this is over," he muttered, storming out of the room. As he left, Pistol walked into Adelaide's room, a concerned expression on her face. "Hey, Lai, how are you doing?" she asked, her voice soft. Adelaide smiled weakly. "I'm fine, thanks. How about you?" Pistol's eyes narrowed. "I was worried about you. You seemed a bit off earlier." Adelaide's eyes welled up with tears. "I just...I don't know what's going on with me. I feel so lost." Pistol's expression softened, and she opened her arms for a hug. "It's okay, Lai. I'm here for you. Tell me what's going on." As they hugged, Adelaide poured out her story, tears streaming down her face. Pistol listened, her expression growing more and more horrified. "I'm so sorry, Lai. I had no idea." When Adelaide finished, Pistol held her at arm's length. "You deserve so much better than what you've been through. I'm glad you're here now." As they talked, the hours passed quickly. Before they knew it, it was 12 pm. "I have to go, Lai. We have a meeting with the boss," Pistol said, standing up. Adelaide nodded. "I'll walk you out." As they walked, Pistol asked, "How old are you, anyway?" "I'm 20," Adelaide replied. "And you?" "I'm 21," Pistol said with a smile. "You're like a kiddo to me, and I love that. Bye, Lai. I love you." Adelaide rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "I love you too, Pistol." But their moment was short-lived. As they walked, Winter blocked their path, her eyes flashing with anger. "Where do you think you're going?" she sneered. Adelaide's eyes narrowed. "None of your business. Let me pass." Winter's smile grew wider. "You know, I hate your innocence. It's so... fragile. And I feel like destroying that pretty face of yours. Believe me, no one will save you." Before Adelaide could react, Winter slapped her across the face. But before she could strike again, Cheng appeared out of nowhere, his eyes blazing with fury. "How dare you touch her!" he yelled, grabbing Winter's arm. Winter tried to wriggle free, but Cheng's grip was like a vice. "She insulted me," Winter spat. But before she could say another word, Lucifer appeared, his eyes flashing with anger. "You think you have the right to touch her?" he growled, his voice low and menacing. Winter's eyes went wide as Lucifer's power threw her across the room. She landed with a thud, coughing hard. Adelaide's eyes widened in horror as Lucifer's eyes locked onto hers, his expression unreadable. "Stop, please. You're hurting her," Adelaide cried out, trying to rush to Winter's side. But Lucifer just turned and walked away, Cheng following close behind. Winter watched him go, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and anger. What had just happened? And what did it mean?
