Valerie's eyes widened and she marched toward him. Her kick was fast—her leg swung through the air, catching him off guard. He didn’t see it coming and stumbled backward.
The letter flew from his hand with the force of her kick.
He ran at her—and so did she, her claws elongating mid-stride.
They crashed into each other, claws flashing.
He was strong-too strong-and he managed to s***h at her hair, cutting a few strands loose.
He plunged his claws toward her stomach. She yelped in pain and staggered backward, slumping to the ground.
Her eyes caught sight of the letter on the floor.
His gaze shifted there too.
They both lunged for it.
Valerie’s hand almost grabbed it—almost—but his foot slammed down hard on her hand, and she grunted in anger.
