Chapter 2:

I drank a portion and the other portion was handed to the prince, and then I could hear cheers. The wedding ceremony was over, I was married to a stranger, and worst of all the stranger didn’t want to get married to me. I felt Mother lead me outside to the carriage where I got in and it rode away, beside me sat the prince and I so badly wanted to see what he looked like. Was he ugly and probably a troop? It is said that he is a useless king because he is not able to transform into a wolf, it’s too bad when a wolf can’t even be a wolf. After a long time, the carriage suddenly stopped and the prince walked down before hurrying inside. I was left alone in the carriage with his maids and guards staring at me. “Mrs. Kaseman, please come down” A guard extended his hand towards me which I nervously took before walking down. Why did the prince leave in such haste? Did he have something to do or he already knew I was not the real bride? “Come with me, please,” a maid said and I nodded before following her inside. “Won't you take your veil off?” she asked and I shook my head in denial. If there was a way for me to put this on for the rest of my life then I would, I couldn’t let them find out that I was a substitute bride. “Take it off” a sharp and hoarse voice echoed from upstairs. I took a glance and saw a figure standing there, I swallowed hard as I knew it was the prince even if I couldn’t see his face. “Don’t let me repeat” he added and I gulped down, this was my end Laura’s POV: As I stood there, he knew who I was. Why would he ask me to take off my veil? The maid beside me remained silent. I closed my eyes as I slowly unveiled myself. I knew harsh words would follow, but I wasn't prepared for them just yet. When I opened my eyes, I saw his deep blue eyes staring at me. He was so handsome with unique features like his straight pointed nose and smooth lips. He was muscular, and I wondered why he couldn't wolf out. This man couldn't be called Useless and infamous when he looked like this. He turned and left, and fear crept in. Why didn't he say anything about being cheated? "I will take you to your room," the maid said, and I followed her. Why didn't the prince say anything? We arrived at a big room designed with white and blue curtains. A room! I couldn't believe it. My whole life, I had always slept in the kitchen, and now I had a room. "My room?" I asked, and she nodded. Clovis's POV: After seeing the lady I married, I felt like going to Heart's home right away. How dare they cheat me? But I had to keep my cool; I didn't want people paying attention to me. "Your Highness, she is a nobody...she is Laura Heart. The second daughter of the Heart family," my right-hand man and closest friend, Derick, said. "I never knew they had another daughter," I replied. It was known that the Heart family had only one daughter, the young Miss of the family, Jackie Heart. "She is Mr. Heart's illegitimate daughter, so it will be a shame to let others know about her," Derick explained. I clenched my fist angrily. If she was hidden, then it meant she held no importance in that family. This would jeopardize my plans. I needed Jackie Heart because her parents cherished her a lot, and their full support would be diverted to me if she ever became my wife. But instead, I got an illegitimate daughter. "Send her away," I ordered angrily. Derick didn't move, and I knew he had more to say. "Speak up," I demanded. "I think she can still be of use. After all, she is a Heart," Derick explained. I had a mocking sneer. He still didn't understand the ways of the Heart family. They all knew I was a useless prince, so they didn't want their precious daughter to marry me. That's why they sent the illegitimate daughter to me because she had no importance to them. "Send her away," I repeated, giving him no room for arguments. They would pay for cheating me. But it was good that the whole kingdom thought I was useless. My uncle, the king, wouldn't pay any attention to me, and that's why he wouldn't know what hit him. Derick walked away, and I received a call from the king. I rode my horse to the palace and walked into the throne room without any greetings from the guards or maids. The king was waiting for me. "Clovis," he called out, and I nodded respectfully. I hoped this act of mine would end soon. "I need a favor from you. After I got you married to the young Miss of the Heart family, as you asked, you need to return the favor," he said, and I had long expected this. How long has he done something for free? And why did he ask for my help when he knew I couldn't wolf out, which meant no one would ever be scared of me, and I couldn't go to war like other wolves? "That's right," I said when I heard footsteps approaching. "Brother, I heard you got married," my cousin, Makia, walked towards me with a sneer. "I wish you the best, and I hope your kid will be more capable," his tone was filled with mockery, but I had to keep my cool and play useless as always. "Makia, you should be with the armies now," the king said with a frown. "That's right, Dad. Only capable men could go to war. I promise you that we will win over that small kingdom and make it ours," Makia replied, and I clenched my fist. Who did my uncle think he was? He was ruining the kingdom my father had built. He kept fighting over small kingdoms and then ruling over them. He wanted to be the king of kings, and that caused an imbalance in power. Still, I had to keep my cool. "Then leave," the king said, and Makia patted my shoulder before leaving.
