Chapter 3 – Cracks in the Crew

1037 Words
The attic door creaked open. No one rushed out. No one spoke. Because the damage had already been done. Lauren stood frozen, the photo still in her hand, her knuckles turning white as she gripped it tighter. Leonardo didn’t move toward her this time. He knew better. 💔 Silence Before the Storm The group slowly made their way downstairs, each step heavier than the last. The house felt different now. Not just tense. Broken. Snooki whispered, “This is the worst first night we’ve ever had…” Vinny nodded. “And that’s saying a lot.” Pauly didn’t joke this time. He just leaned against the wall, arms crossed, watching Leonardo carefully. Waiting. 🔥 It Finally Explodes Lauren reached the bottom of the stairs and turned sharply. “What were you thinking?” she demanded. Leonardo exhaled slowly. “I wasn’t.” “That’s the problem!” Her voice echoed through the house. “You didn’t think about me. About us. About anything.” “I said it didn’t mean anything—” “And that’s supposed to make it better?!” she fired back. “You don’t get to decide what matters to me!” JWoww stepped in slightly. “Alright, let’s bring it down—” “No,” Lauren said, her voice cutting through everything. “Not this time.” 🧠 The House Watches Behind them— A faint creak. No one turned. But everyone heard it. The house wasn’t quiet. It was listening. 🧩 The Group Splits Mike stepped forward. “Look, what he did was wrong. But blowing this up isn’t going to fix anything.” Lauren snapped toward him. “Oh, so now you’re defending him?” “I’m saying we don’t make it worse.” Vinny added, “We’ve all made mistakes—” “Not like this,” Lauren said. That landed. Hard. Pauly finally spoke. “Bro… you gotta own this.” Leonardo nodded slowly. “I am.” “No, you’re not,” Lauren said. “You’re explaining it away.” ⚡ The Board Interferes The lights flickered again. This time— Longer. The room dimmed, shadows stretching across the walls. Snooki grabbed JWoww’s arm. “Why does it keep doing that?!” JWoww’s eyes narrowed. “Because it’s not done.” A low sound echoed from above. The attic. Calling them back. 🪜 Round Two “No,” Mike said immediately. “We’re not going back up there.” But then— SCRAPE. The sound came from the stairs. Something moving. On its own. Everyone turned. Slowly. A single game piece… slid down one step. Then another. Then another. Until it reached the bottom. And stopped. Pointing. At Mike. 😳 The Shift “Oh hell no,” Snooki said. “Now it’s choosing people downstairs?!” Vinny whispered, “This thing just changed the rules…” Mike stared at the piece. His expression changed. Subtle. But real. JWoww noticed instantly. “Why you?” “It’s random,” Mike said quickly. The board upstairs responded. Carving echoed through the ceiling. “THE PAST IS NOT GONE.” Lauren looked at Mike now. “What does that mean?” “Nothing,” he said. Too fast. Too familiar. 🔍 Pressure Builds Pauly stepped closer. “Yo… why you acting like that?” “I’m not acting like anything.” “Yes, you are,” Vinny said. “You look exactly like Leonardo did five minutes ago.” That hit. Mike’s jaw tightened. “Drop it,” he said. JWoww stepped forward. “No. Not happening. Whatever this is—comes out now.” 🧨 The Reveal Begins Another loud CLICK echoed from upstairs. Then— Footsteps. But no one was walking. A drawer opening. Something sliding. Then— Silence. The group looked at each other. No one wanted to go up. But no one could ignore it. Leonardo spoke first. “We finish this.” Lauren shot him a look. “You don’t get to lead anything right now.” That stung. But he didn’t argue. 🪜 Back to the Attic… Again They moved slower this time. More careful. More afraid. The attic felt colder. The board had changed again. More symbols. Deeper carvings. More aggressive. The words now read: “SECOND TRUTH.” Mike didn’t step forward. He stayed back. Like distance could protect him. It couldn’t. 💥 The Board Calls Him Out The piece moved instantly. No hesitation. Stopping directly in front of Mike. The carving began: “YOU HID IT.” Snooki whispered, “Hid what?!” Mike shook his head. “This is stupid.” The board carved deeper. “FROM ALL OF THEM.” JWoww’s voice dropped. “Mike… what did you do?” “I didn’t do anything!” “Then why are you panicking?” Vinny asked. 📂 The Truth Emerges A hidden compartment opened. Inside— A folder. Old. Worn. Mike didn’t move. He didn’t need to. Because he already knew what it was. Lauren stepped forward and grabbed it. “Lauren—don’t,” Mike said. Too late. She opened it. Photos. Documents. Records. Her eyes widened. “What… is this?” Vinny stepped closer. “What are we looking at?” Lauren looked up slowly. At Mike. “You knew about the board.” Silence. ⚠️ The Twist Everyone froze. JWoww turned to him. “Is that true?” Mike didn’t answer. Because silence… Was answer enough. 🌑 The Truth Drops “I didn’t know it would be like this,” Mike said finally. “Like what?!” Pauly demanded. “Like… alive.” That word hit different. Snooki shook her head. “No. Nope. I don’t like that word.” Lauren’s voice sharpened. “How do you KNOW about it?” Mike hesitated. Then— “I’ve seen it before.” 🔥 Final Blow The room went still. Even the air seemed to stop. Leonardo stared at him. “Where?” Mike looked at the board. Then back at them. “…Not here.” 🌊 Ending Moment The board carved one final message: “MORE REMEMBER THAN THEY SAY.” The lights went out. Darkness swallowed the attic. And somewhere in that silence— Something shifted.
