Chapter 5 – Mike’s Past

1062 Words
The boardwalk never felt that quiet before. Not even in the off-season. Not even during storms. But now— Standing in the middle of flickering lights and frozen rides— It felt like the entire world had paused… just to listen. To him. 😶 The Truth No One Asked For Mike didn’t run. He didn’t deny it. Because there was nothing left to deny. The image on the screen—him, younger, standing next to that same board—burned into everyone’s memory. Lauren’s voice cut through the silence. “You brought it back.” Not a question. A statement. Mike swallowed hard. “…Yeah.” 💥 The Shift in Power Snooki shook her head slowly. “No. No no no—what do you mean ‘yeah’? Like casually ‘yeah’?!” Vinny stepped forward. “Start talking. Now.” Pauly’s tone dropped. “Everything. No edits.” JWoww didn’t say anything. But her stare said more than all of them combined. Leonardo stood still. Watching. Waiting. Because somehow— He already felt like this was bigger than just Mike. 🌊 It Started Years Ago Mike exhaled. Then began. “…This wasn’t supposed to happen again.” The wind picked up slightly, ocean air cutting through the silence. “I was younger. Way before all of this. Before the house, before the fame… before any of you.” The screen flickered again behind them. Not glitching. Showing. 🕰 Flashback Begins The image shifted. An old house. Not the one they were in now. Older. Run down. Closer to the edge of the shore—where the boardwalk didn’t reach. Mike’s voice continued. “There was this place… people said it was abandoned. But it wasn’t empty.” 🏚 The First Encounter “You ever walk into a place and just… feel like you shouldn’t be there?” No one answered. They didn’t need to. “That’s what it felt like.” The image showed a younger Mike pushing open a broken door. Dust floating. Silence pressing. But he walked in anyway. “I thought it was just another spot. Somewhere to mess around, explore… be stupid.” A small laugh. Regretful. “I didn’t know I was walking into something that was waiting.” 🧩 The Board Was Already There Upstairs. Attic. Same setup. Same table. Same board. “I didn’t find it,” Mike said. “…It was already set.” The group exchanged looks. Just like theirs. ⚠️ The First Game “I didn’t believe it at first,” Mike continued. “Not when it moved. Not when it wrote.” Snooki whispered, “Just like us…” “Yeah,” Mike said. “Just like you.” The screen showed it— The piece moving. The words forming. WELCOME. Not “welcome back.” Just… Welcome. “It started small,” Mike said. “Little things. Stuff I could ignore.” Vinny asked quietly, “And then?” Mike’s expression hardened. “…Then it stopped being small.” 💀 What It Took From Him “It started telling truths.” JWoww crossed her arms tighter. “About what?” “Everything,” Mike said. “Stuff I did. Stuff I hid. Stuff I didn’t even want to remember.” Lauren whispered, “So it’s not new…” “No,” Mike said. “It’s not.” The ocean crashed louder behind them. “I thought I could control it. That I could play along and beat it.” A bitter smile. “I was wrong.” 🔥 The Breaking Point The screen flickered faster now. Images cutting in. Arguments. Fear. Isolation. “I lost people,” Mike said quietly. The group stilled. “What do you mean… lost?” Vinny asked. Mike didn’t answer right away. Because this part— Still hurt. 🕳 The Truth Beneath the Truth “They didn’t all walk away.” That landed. Hard. Snooki shook her head. “No… no, don’t say it like that—” “I’m not saying it,” Mike replied. “The board did.” Silence. Heavy. Unavoidable. 🧠 The Realization Leonardo finally spoke. Low. Focused. “It feeds on it.” Everyone looked at him. “The secrets. The tension. The breaking points.” He stepped closer to Mike. “That’s what it wants.” Mike nodded slowly. “…Yeah.” ⚡ Why It Came Back Lauren’s voice sharpened. “So why bring it HERE?” Mike snapped back. “I didn’t bring it!” “Then how is it in our house?!” she fired. “I thought it was gone!” That stopped everything. 🧨 The Reveal Mike’s voice cracked slightly now. “I got rid of it. Years ago. I locked it away, buried it, left it behind—I made sure it couldn’t come back.” Vinny frowned. “Then explain this.” Mike looked toward the dark boardwalk. Toward the ocean. “…It doesn’t stay where you leave it.” 🌊 It Chooses JWoww stepped forward. “Then how does it decide where to go?” Mike didn’t hesitate this time. “…People.” Silence. Lauren’s stomach dropped slightly. “What?” “It doesn’t attach to places,” Mike said. “It attaches to people.” 😳 The Implication Everyone looked at each other. Then slowly— At Leonardo. Because without saying it— They all felt it. 🔥 The Final Truth of the Chapter Leonardo’s voice was calm. Too calm. “…So you didn’t bring it back.” Mike shook his head. “No.” Leonardo’s eyes narrowed slightly. “…Then it followed someone.” The wind picked up again. Stronger now. The ocean louder. The boardwalk lights flickered back on—just slightly. Unstable. Watching. 🧩 The Last Message The screen behind them glitched one final time. Then carved out its last words for the night: “NOT ALL TRUTHS ARE HIS.” 🌑 Ending Moment Lauren looked at Leonardo. Something in her expression changed. Not anger. Not sadness. Something deeper. “…What aren’t you telling me?” Leonardo didn’t answer. Because for the first time— He wasn’t sure if the truth was his to control anymore. 🔥 Final Line The screen went black. The lights snapped off again. And somewhere— Back at the house— The board moved. On its own. Preparing… For the next truth.
