CHAPTER FOURCañuela was changing for dinner when there was a knock at the door and the Stewardess came in carrying a box in her hand.
“With the compliments of Señor Ramón de Lopez.”
Cañuela looked at the box incredulously.
She could hardly believe that he would send her a box of the orchids that he had brought for Señora Sanchez.
For a moment she contemplated sending them back to him and then she realised that there were two reasons why he might have ordered the corsage to be brought to her.
First, which she could hardly credit, was that he was so ingenuous as to believe that she would take them as a compliment for having warned him about the detective.
Secondly that he was deliberately distracting the detective’s attention from Señora Sanchez to herself.
