She ran to Ramón de Lopez and, putting out both her hands in their lace mittens, said in a low intimate tone, “I have been looking for you – waiting for you.” There was a note of passion in her voice that was unmistakable. Without waiting to hear Ramón de Lopez’s answer, Cañuela moved swiftly away and without looking back walked through the crowds on the lawn towards the house.
