Mia read the contract four times. Then she asked Jules to read it. Then she asked Jules to ask her boyfriend to read it. Then she searched online for every possible legal phrase she didn't understand. Finally, she signed. On her first day at North & Co., she discovered that Adrian's reputation was not exaggerated. He was terrifying. He rejected a campaign because the shade of blue was “emotionally confused.” He rejected another because the tagline had “too much desperation.” Mia watched silently. Then she presented her own idea. He looked at the screen. “No.” Mia blinked. “You didn't even let me finish.” “I saw enough.” She stared. “Are you always like this?” “Yes.” “That's unfortunate.” His eyebrow rose. “For you?” “For everyone.” A few employees nearby suddenly became very interested in their computers. Mia smiled. Adrian stared at her. And somewhere across the office, Jules silently texted: I give it three months before they kiss. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
