“I don’t need expensive things!”
“What do you want?”
“Flowers.”
“I bought flowers.”
“Simple flowers.”
He stared.
“You’re difficult.”
“You’re rich.”
“That’s not an answer.”
She laughed.
Their relationship became public.
The internet loved them.
Mia hated it.
Adrian secretly found it hilarious.

Adrian’s family dinner introduced Mia to Marco.
Marco looked at Mia.
Then at Adrian.
Then back at Mia.
“So you’re the reason my brother smiles now.”
Adrian glared.
“Marco.”
“What?”
“Stop.”
Marco laughed.
“I like her.”
Mia whispered:
“I like him too.”
Adrian looked betrayed.
“Why?”
“He’s funny.”
“I’m funny.”
“No.”
Marco laughed.
For the first time, Mia saw Adrian relax around his family.
She realized there was a softer man underneath everything.

North & Co. offered Mia a permanent creative-director position.
She wanted it.
But accepting meant working directly under Adrian.
She worried everyone would assume she received it because of him.
So she refused.
Adrian was furious.
“You’re sabotaging yourself.”
“I’m protecting myself.”
“You don’t need protection from me.”
“You don’t understand.”
“I understand perfectly.”
They fought.
And for the first time, love wasn’t enough to make the problem disappear.
