Aurora
The night seemed made just for us — the hot air, Max’s touch on my skin, his whispers that pierced me to the bone. But the moment his lips touched mine again, a deafening bang shattered the silence in the office.
The door was thrown open violently, and three masked men, heavily armed, stormed inside. Before I could react, a bullet tore through the room, striking Max’s chest with brutal force.
I felt the world stop, as if time froze in a moment of pure horror. Max fell backward, his warm, heavy blood spilling onto my hand. I screamed his name, desperate.
“Stay with me, Max!” My voice cracked into sobs, but he tried to rise, leaning against the edge of the desk.
His eyes, usually so cold and in control, were now filled with pain but also a fury that made me shiver.
“Don’t let them win... not me... not you...” he murmured with a trembling voice.
The attackers fired warning shots, but Max, with his last strength, drew his gun and fired with deadly precision. I heard another man fall to the floor, the sound echoing grimly through the room.
I bent down to hold his hand, feeling life slowly slipping away, tears streaming down my cheeks.
“I can’t lose you, Max... please, stay here with me!” I pleaded, heart shattered.
He smiled weakly, then whispered:
“You’re all I have... you must be strong. I love you... and I’ll fight to stay with you.”
Despite the pain, Max began to control his breathing, and I ran to the desk drawer, searching for anything that could help — a first aid kit, something to stop the bleeding.
With trembling hands, I pressed on his wound, trying to stem the hemorrhage. I could feel his heartbeat against my palm, his breath growing weaker.
“Don’t leave, Max. Not now. Not without me.” I whispered as panic washed over me.
He grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly, then said:
“We have to leave. This place is no longer safe. For either of us.”
I lifted him into my arms, feeling his weight but also the burning desire to protect him at all costs.
As we were leaving the office, I heard hurried footsteps in the hall — it wasn’t just those three; more were coming.
I pushed the door with all my might and ran down the stairs with Max leaning on me, every step a race against time.
“Stay with me, Max... I love you,” I repeated, and he replied in a faint voice:
“And I love you... always...”
That night was a brutal fight between life and death, where our love was the only refuge.
And I knew that no matter how hard it got, I would never let the darkness tear us apart.
