417 Words
Kestrel's heart was racing as she prepared for the banquet. She had been instructed to wear a stunning black gown, adorned with intricate silver embroidery. The dress was beautiful, but Kestrel knew it was also a symbol of the Dark Emperor's control over her. As she descended the staircase, Kestrel was greeted by the Dark Emperor himself. He was resplendent in his formal attire, his black suit and cape perfectly tailored to accentuate his lean physique. "Ah, my dear Kestrel," he said, offering her his arm. "You look stunning tonight. I'm sure you'll make a lasting impression on our guests." Kestrel forced a smile onto her face, trying to ignore the feeling of unease that was growing inside her. She knew that the mysterious figure would be at the banquet, watching and waiting for the perfect moment to strike. As they entered the grand hall, Kestrel was struck by the sheer scale of the gathering. The room was filled with nobles and dignitaries from all over the realm, all of them eager to curry favor with the Dark Emperor. Kestrel's eyes scanned the room, searching for any sign of the mysterious figure. She spotted him standing by the fireplace, his eyes locked onto hers across the crowded room. But as she gazed at him, Kestrel's attention was diverted by a commotion at the entrance. A group of guards had surrounded a young woman, their faces stern and unyielding. "What's going on?" Kestrel asked the Dark Emperor, trying to keep her voice neutral. "Ah, it seems we have an uninvited guest," the Dark Emperor replied, his voice dripping with malice. "Allow me to introduce you to Lady Aria, the daughter of the Duke of Eldrid." Kestrel's eyes widened as she took in Lady Aria's striking features. The young woman had long, curly brown hair and piercing green eyes that seemed to flash with defiance. "I didn't invite you to this banquet, Lady Aria," the Dark Emperor growled, his face darkening with anger. "I didn't need an invitation," Lady Aria replied, her voice steady and calm. "I have a message for the queen." Kestrel's heart skipped a beat as Lady Aria's eyes locked onto hers. What message could she possibly have? And why had she risked the Dark Emperor's wrath to deliver it? The mysterious figure was moving through the crowd, his eyes fixed on Lady Aria. Kestrel sensed a sudden jolt of tension in the air, as if the very fate of the realm hung in the balance.
