As a reminiscence of Dutch architecture, the Bolgatty palace stood facing the backwaters of Kochi, The Dutch built this palace in 1744, after Marthanda verma the king of Travancore defeated the Dutch in battle of Kolachil, Holland lost its grip in Malabar too. They owned the palace until 1909 when the Dutch administration handed over it to the British and it became Palace of British resident in Kochi. After independence the state government converted it as heritage hotel and resort.
