Three years later
I walk inside the diner and see my friends sitting in a booth towards the window. There's Stephen, Chris, and Pete who sat on the side facing the entrance while Marcus and Eddie sat across from them.
"Wassup man, for a second I thought you weren't coming." Chris said as we slapped hands. I have to admit, their habits have rubbed off on me.
"No, I'm just a little late, you guys already ordered?" I ask as I get myself seated and situated. "Yeah, we ordered the usual for you, two double meat double cheese bacon burgers with onion rings, fries, chicken strips and two strawberry milkshakes." Chris answered, running out of breath at the end.
"You always say you don't workout, yet you're swole, man."Marcus added his opinion. "Then you eat so much, I wonder how you're able to stay so fit without eating so much."
"Well y'know...high metabolism." I awkwardly chuckled. It's not like I was lying, just not telling the full truth.
Robbie, who works at said diner comes over with two trays full of food and drinks. He had to make a second trip because of how much there was. "Alright, I just clocked out so hurry up and eat, I wanna leave soon." He said after coming back from changing in the restroom.
"Mmm, there is no better place to get these fries I swear." Chris moaned, stuffing them in his mouth. Robbie got a chair from the empty table beside us and sat at the edge of our booth.
"Chew with your mouth closed man, nobody wants to see all that." Stephen said, pushing his face away from his. " Oh come on, you saying you don't like, mashed potatoes?" Chris joked, leaning into Stephen's face and sticking out his tongue covered in chewed up fries when saying mashed potatoes.
We finished up our food in 30 to 45 minutes before heading out. We walked around the corner before Chris all of a sudden stopped us.
"Guys guys guys, I just got confirmation from my cousin Tyler–" He said looking down at his phone. "Man, what crazy idea is it this time man?" Marcus said, leaning on the side of his shoulder. "You know the club called 'Lights Out'? Well my cousin's friend knows a guy who knows the bouncers girlfriend, and we all get to go."
"First of all,"Pete rubbed the front of his forehead in circles, "I think I had a Brian aneurysm trying to figure out who is who, and second, how the hell do you have so many connections."
"Hey don't hate, appreciate. All these connections are getting us into super dope places. Also, what can I say? I'm a people person." He shrugged his shoulders with a big grin on his face.
"I don't think I'm gonna go." I said. "It's already late and–"
"No no no, we're all going. You literally have evening classes tomorrow so what are you crying about?" Chris came and put his arm around my neck.
"I guess, but don't be trying to get me wasted." I laughed. "Of course not. That's what Peter's for." Chris laughed while Pete punched his shoulder.
We ended up taking a bus all he way downtown. We got off on the street Chris said the club was on. Once we walked up to it, it looked less like a club and more like an exclusive party for rich people. The line to get in was so long, it seemed it went around the block, bit Chris walked right past it and so we fallowed him.
"Jamie, baby what's up!" Chris exclaimed, throwing up his hand and slapping palms with the bouncer. "Wassup Chris."He wrote something on the little note pad he had. They with you." Jamie the bouncer looked at and pointed his pen at towards us. "Yeah, six of us in total." He wrote one more thing then nodded his head towards the door. "Iight, y'all good to go."
We went through the door and the inside looked like the club in one of those Mafia movies. Everyone dressed their absolute best, there being a famous DJ, and the VIP section looking like it was meant for the President of something. Just minus the drugs and guns of course.
We make our way to the bar and Chris orders us six shots. "I told you I'm not getting drunk Chris. " I tried telling him before but he is thick headed. "What?!" I could barely hear him over the music, even for me.
"C'mon, let loose a bit." Robbie said into my ear. I shook my head and laughed as we all lifted our shot and cheered, before downing them. The alcohol burned my throat and left a weird taste in my mouth. Marcus got up and said something before going and talking to some girl sitting on the other side of the bar. Stephen and Chris went to the dance floor while Pete somehow got wrapped into a game of cards at one of the many booths.
Me and Robbie stayed seated at the bar though, talking about whatever. I liked hanging out with the other guys, but I think Robbie is my best friend. He's chill and doesn't get too rowdy, but he still knows how to have fun. "So how has your search been going?" I asked Robbie. "I think I'm going to take a break from that. At first it seemed like the right thing to do but now I'm thinking about focusing on graduating. I have my whole life to find my mate." He said, taking a sip of the bear he ordered.
"What about you. You still don't want to find your mate?" I thought about his question for a second. "I don't know. At first I was sure it's what I didn't want, and it still is. But, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't mind if I were to meet my mate."
"Okay, so what's your ideal mate?"
"My ideal mate?" I laughed. "Yeah, like what is your type or what you imagine your mate to look like?"
I had never really thought of it, but,"I guess, if they were some cute girl, with pretty eyes." Robbie put his arm around me and laughed. "Awe who knew you would be so adorable about it."
"It still doesn't change my opinion though. If I were to find my mate, and they were a wolf I would reject them."
Robbie sighed. "I get that, but the chance of your mate being a human isn't that great. And rejecting your mate just because their a wolf is a bit..."
"Robbie, you know how I feel about wolves and what I went through. I get your experience might've been different, but that doesn't change my opinion." I shifted in my seat a bit. "I'm never going to be okay with wolves."
"But I'm okay since I'm half human. right?" His face was serious, and also... a bit cold? "That's not what I meant..."
"It's fine." He said, chugging whatever he had left in his bottle. "I know exactly what he meant. " He said before getting up from his seat. "Robbie...!" All I could do was sigh as he walked off.
I will admit that initially I was okay with Robbie because he was part human. Yet, the fact that he is still part wolf and is from a pack always makes feel uneasy. I can't help it, even the thought of being around wolves is enough to make me anxious.
I chugged the rest of my drink, and then asked the bartender for another. I don't understand why Robbie is so upset. He knows everything I went through all those eighteen years I spent at the Seadance pack.
He blames my distrust of wolves on my "childhood trauma" and how I feel negative emotions towards the same species that caused my trauma. He's studying psychology.
As I start drinking my third beer I can feel the effects of the alcohol taking place. My vision was becoming blurred and I felt like I was swaying. "This is why we don't drink." I heard Ruben suddenly speaking. "You've always been a lightweight." He softly chuckled. "Oh, shut up. " I mumbled. "Are you that upset that you and Robbie argued?" He laughed at me again.
"No, I'm upset that he's trying to make me into some bad guy. Like, I'm just doing what I gotta do." Even thinking about the expression he made got me upset, and I ended up chugging yet another drink. "Hey slow down, our metabolism won't be able to keep up with all this."
"I'll be fine Ruben, geez... belch" That burp felt so good, like I cleared so much gas in my stomach. After a few minutes I really had to pee. I got up from my stool and began walking towards the restroom in the back, but I couldn't walk right, no matter how hard I tried. I ended up bumping into someone and almost falling back.
They grabbed my shoulders just in time and when I turned around to see who it was, Robbie was standing there. "Man, your wasted." I shook my head at his comment. "Yes, yes you are. C'mon let's go."
"Wait, wait Robbie!" I grabbed onto his arms. "What? What is it?" I leaned into his ear. " I really... gotta pee." He sighed before taking me to the bathroom.
...
Robbie's pov
Danny can seriously get on my nerves sometimes. I love the guy to death but he can say some really messed up sh*t.
Although this case is a little different. "I really...gotta pee." He whispered into my ear but I could clearly here him, even over the loud beat of the music. I sighed hard. "Alright, I'll take you."
All my friends get drunk quicker than me, including Danny. I'm used to taking care of them when they do but it can be a serious pain. It's worse since a drunk guy can't aim that good. He was almost completely missed the urinal.
After that completely disgusting portion of my night, I helped carry Danny out of the club. I held his arm over my shoulder and held him by the hip. "Well at least I have an excuse to leave early. " I like to go to sleep early. A good night's sleep always leads to a productive day...most of the time.
I called for a lift while we were in the bathroom and already left Stephen a message that we'd be leaving early. I checked the app on my phone and my ride was just a few minutes away.
Danny all of a sudden got fidgety and his face looked more red than it already was. No way he could be getting more drunker? He began sniffing the air. "Robbie....do you smell that?"
"Smell what? I also smelled the air for something, but I didn't smell anything out of the ordinary. "It smells...hic...sweet." There is no way this guy is thinking straight. Why the heck did he drink so much anyway. He knows his a lightweight..
"Sweet...bakery....so..." His mumbling was getting annoying. I swear next time we go out, I'm not going. I'm always the one having to take care of whoever gets wasted.
Out of nowhere, Danny is yanked away from me. Instinctively I grabbed his forearm in time. Who stood before me was a tall man dressed in a suit. I could immediately tell who he was. I had seen his picture before. "Alpha William?" He was a bit surprised when I said his name.
Is he coming to take Danny as a rouge. I thought we were careful. How did he find him? He tugged Danny away from my grasp. "If you know you I am the step away from my mate." He growled.
