The Plan

The alarm on my phone buzzed against my nightstand for the 100th time as I finally reached over to dismiss it. The sun sent a bright light through my window, making it hurt to open my eyes. I stumble out of bed, wiping the blur from my vision. I took a quick rise in the shower, then got dressed. I stepped out of my bathroom with my toothbrush in my mouth and a comb going through my hair. My eyes met with my sister, who I'd heard coming in long before I left the bathroom. I took the toothbrush out my mouth then took a gulp of water out of a cup on my dresser. I spit it out into the cup then set the comp down next to it. "I hate it when you do that. Just spit in the sink." Amy complained, making a disgusted look.. I open my closet and start going through my shoes. "I didn't ask." I roll my eyes as I looked over at her. I grab my boots and sit at the edge of my bed. I look up at Amy who is still standing at the entrance of my door. "What do you want, why are you just standing there? Spit it out." I say annoyed, while I put on one of my boots. "I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. Aren't you excited? Tonight you'll get your wolf." I rub my wet hair off my forehead. "Yeah I'm excited I guess, but not for the reason you said." I slip my other boot on. She hesitated before replying. "I know, but will you really do it? You'd be safer if you stayed home." I didn't respond. I'd been tired of having this conversation with her. I knew that I shouldn't have told her, but sometimes she can act so nice I let my guard down. "I told you already, yes, and there is nothing you can do or say that will change my mind." I get up and start walking out the room. As I walk past her she grabbed my arm. "You know Dad won't get too far. One way or another you will be forced to return. I'm only saying this for your own good. If you leave now, you will come back bruised and broken." She said quietly but stern. I sighed, looking away. That's what I'd been worried about the most. My Father going after me when I leave. Yet it won't matter anyway, I'm already bruised, I'm already broken. After all these years the worst father could do is to me is kill me. Even then it'd be the first favor I'd ever get from him. "Look I'm not trying to discourage you, it's just the truth. If you just do as your told you'll be fine." I looked at her, straight in the eyes. "Unlike you I don't want to be like I'm some dog listening to its master. I won't obey!" I yank my arm away and start walking off. "Even if it cost me everything I'm getting as far away from here as possible, no matter what. So why don't you mind your own business and fallow orders like you always do." I start walking down the stairs and into the main hall of the pack house. As I go down. I see my little brother Ben, he is only ten right now but he is very mature for his age. While growing up he rarely cried or threw tantrums, he's always been quiet and respectful. "Good afternoon Danny, happy birthday. You just woke up?" He greeted me."Yeah, a little over an hour ago. Did you have breakfast already?" "Yeah in morning, Miss Helena cooked but only I ate, no one else showed up." He answered while sulking. "Don't worry next time I'll eat with you alright? Just wake me." I said ruffling the top of his hair. He was still adorable and had a baby face. "Oh, and Mom was looking for you earlier, so be prepared." He removed my hand and started walking upstairs. I definitely don't want to run into my mom. So after I came down I cut through the dining hall and as I'm about to exit through the back I feel someone tap my shoulder and I look behind me. "Happy birthday Young Master Daniel!" Helena, an old maid for my family, cheers, while holding up a small strawberry cake covered in vanilla frosting. The candles were in the shape of the number 18 and My name was written on the cake with strawberry icing, my favorite flavor. I smile and take it out of her arms. "Thanks Miss Helena." I blow out the candles and then set the cake on the kitchen table. She reached her small hand up and gently pinched the side of my cheek. "Your such a handsome and smart young man, and I just know your wolf will be just as amazing as you, I'm sure of it." I take her hand and place them in mine. "Thank you. I'll be sure to enjoy the cake." She smiled warmly and then pulled a long thing knife out the pocket of her apron and handed it to me. "How about you try some now?" I smiled then took the knife and gently set it at the top of the cake, trying to cut it perfectly. It reminds me of when I was little and Miss Helena would let me eat dessert before dinner. I cut a semi-perfect piece out then picked it up between my finger and thumb. I stuffed it in my mouth letting out a satisfied moan as the strawberry flavor arose. I then cut another slice and stuffed it down. "Slow down Young Master, you might get a stomach ache." She laughed. "I can't help it, it's too good" I also laughed. I heard the door on the other side of the room open. My mother appeared on the other side, wearing a medium length blue dress with her jet black hair tied up into a french twist. She looked at me up and down with her eyes stopping at the cake for a second, then she glanced at Miss Helena before striding into the room. "What are you doing dressed like that. I thought I'd told you yesterday to dress properly. The birthday banquet will be starting in a few hours. I left your suit in my office. I expect to see you in the Ball Room in under half an hour." She huffed as she walked out the room, her heels clicking loudly with her. Miss Helena grabs my hand. "Let's go get you ready now." I paused looking back at the door my Mother just left through before looking back and nodding my head. "Okay..."
