Ava
Crap.
Crap.
Oh look, more crap.
"Ugh!" I shouted frustrated as I threw dress after dress, jeans after jeans on the floor and onto my bed. Nothing seemed appropriate enough to wear, these were all clothes that I had left back home and my mom packed them up in the move. It's been three days since Nigel kissed me and asked me out. I had no idea where were going therefore I didn't know what to wear, we had texted a few times but he was pretty mum about where we were going.
I went through my closet again and plopped down onto the pile of clothing on my bed after finding nothing to wear, I gave up! Did guys go through this too? The door to my room opened and in walked my mom wearing a white lab coat with a stethoscope around her neck.
"I'm about to leave for work, are you ready?" She asked and I groaned shaking my head, I felt like a teenager about to go on her first date and couldn't decide on what to wear. The scene was a familiar one as my mom dug through my closet trying to put together an outfit.
"What about this?" She held up a green off the shoulder sweater and I frowned, shaking my head no. She pulled up another outfit but I rejected it and she sighed in frustration then went out of the room and came back with black oversize hoodie dress. I eyed the outfit, knowing immediately that it was one of hers and just nodded. It wasn't great but at least it was something. I took the outfit from her and pulled off my robe then got dressed as she sat on the bed. I paired the hoodie dress with fiery red ankle boots and tied my hair up into a high pony.
"So ... Nigel huh?" She smirked, "he's a really nice guy you know."
"Mom?" I said now standing in front of the mirror applying make-up, "What happened to Kayla's mother?" I asked the question that's been going through my head.
She frowned and shook her head, "I'm not really sure since he doesn't really talk about her." She got up from the bed, "Alright, I'm off. Have fun okay."
My phone rang and I quickly answered not checking the caller id.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey there, so... you didn't tell me you were going on a date with Nigel." Jen said in a whiny voice.
"I'm sorry, it just slipped my mind?" I said more as a question, truth is I didn't know if I should tell her or not. I knew how some guys didn't want anyone knowing that they asked you out and I didn't know if Nigel was one of them so I kept my mouth shut.
"It's okay, so Nigel just dropped Kayla off at our house and he's on his way." She said then paused, "he hasn't been on a date in almost three years so go easy on him okay." She said in a whisper.
"I know." I answered
"Ooh, he told you?"
The doorbell rang before I could answer, so I said bye then hung up. I grabbed my purse and phone then ran downstairs. I took a deep breath before opening the door and there stood Nigel in all his glory.
He smiled at me and I swear I melted into a puddle.
"You look beautiful." He said roaming his eyes over me.
"Thanks" I murmured then stepped out of the house and locked the door.
We walked over to his car and he opened the door for me, which was a first. I've never had guys open a door for me before. I thanked him then climbed in the car and he went around and got into the driver's side the drove us to God knows where, refusing to tell me when I asked.
"The ice rink?" I beamed at him as he pulled up in the parking lot.
"Yeah I didn't want to do the cliché dinner and a movie date." He said, "and I got onto Google and looked up date ideas."
We climbed out of the car and headed inside towards the counter where a girl who looked to be about seventeen years old stood behind it looking bored paging through a magazine. Nigel cleared his throat to catch her attention and she glanced up and her eyes widened into the size of saucers.
"Oh-oh m-my gosh, you-you're Ava Monroe!" She squealed looking at me, "I'm your biggest fan! You're like so friggin' amazing!” She grinned and did a little jump and looked to Nigel then shoved her phone at him.
"Please take a picture of us!"
I looked to him apologetically at the sudden attention we were getting but he just smirked and took the girl's phone, "Say cheese" he said and snapped the picture and handed the phone back to her.
"Oh my gosh my friends are going to be so jealous, it's Ava friggin' Monroe... Oh damn, I'm sorry, what sizes are you?" She asked and handed us ice skates after we told her the sizes then we walked off.
"I'm sorry about that." I said to him because the last thing I wanted to do was ruin our date.
"It's okay." He shrugged, "these things happen when a peasant like myself is on a date with a hot model" he winked. He then helped me put the skates on and lifted me up afterwards.
The place was empty for the most part which helped because I didn't want to embarrass myself as I fell because I have never skated before. I looked at the ice apprehensively and Nigel frowned.
"You've never skated before?" He asked and I gave a nervous laugh "Umm... No" I said and he didn't say anything but took my hand in his and lead us towards the ice where he pulled me tightly against his chest then whispered in my ear, "I promise to not let you fall." He soon let go of me and took my hand in his then we skated, with him holding me the entire time and I'm proud to say he kept his promise and didn't let me fall.
