Chapter 16

1037 Words
Nigel “I want to go to movies.” Kayla demanded as she saw the trailer of Indestructible 2 play on the television and them saying that it was out now. She was sitting on her little yellow plastic chair with her coloring book and crayons laying on the floor in front of her. It was early Saturday morning and I was sitting on the sofa, coffee in hand and my tablet in my lap as I went through unanswered emails. There was an email from Shelby and I smiled as I read it, we had been slowly communicating since she left my office the other day and I had Ava to thank for that. Speaking of, my mind kept drifting to her interview yesterday, I was stunned that she and Tracy were friends, what were the f*****g odds that the girl I was falling for and the one that had broken my heart were friends, the question that kept going through my head was why the hell had Ava not said anything to me. I sighed tiredly as the screen before me starting straining my eyes, I was tired since I had been up all night with a feverish Kayla but luckily she seemed to be doing better now. “Daddy, the movies.” She said again then got up from her chair to climb on top of my lap, I moved the tablet away as well as the coffee mug then placed her securely. “Don't you want to sleep princess?” I asked her yawning, I wanted to take a nap but was very apprehensive of leaving Kayla alone. She vehemently shook her head and said that she wanted to go to the movies. I reminded her that she was still not 100% after being sick all night but she stubbornly told me that she was fine. I was tired of the argument and just shook my head at her, I was feeling out of sorts and just had no energy. The doorbell rang and Kayla jumped off my lap to go answer the door despite my many warnings of never opening it and to always wait for me. I sighed and got up to see who it was, I got there and Ava was standing there with a warm smile on her face. “Look daddy, its Ava!” Kayla said, over the past couple of days she had been learning to stop substituting v with b and it was paying off. “I thought I told you to never open the door by yourself Mikayla.” I chastised and she had the decency to look crestfallen but it didn’t last long as she pulled Ava inside and started talking a mile a minute about school, learning to write her name and that she wants to go to the movies. “Morning Ava.” I finally got the chance to say after Kayla’s rambling. “Morning.” Ava gave a cute little wave and sat down on the couch. My hands itched to pull her in for a hug and just kiss on her since I hadn’t seen her for almost a week but I didn't need that confusing Kayla since she didn't know about Ava and me. It was still very new and I didn't want to expose her to something that may be temporary, especially because Ava may leave at any time, her life was in the city of angels. “You look terrible.” She remarked after giving me a once over. “I was up all night with a sick Kayla.” She looked at the energetic toddler and smirked raising an eyebrow. “She sure does make one seem like a liar.” I chuckled, “Can I get you anything?” “No, I already had breakfast with mom. I came here because I wanted to talk to you actually.” She said and I suppressed the urge to sigh, it’s almost never a good thing when a woman wants to talk. “And not because you missed me?” I teased and she smiled, “That too.” I put on the Cartoon channel and Kayla sat back on her yellow chair to watch her favourite show then I lead Ava to the kitchen and we sat on the chairs around the kitchen counter top a good place to still see Kayla but also where she was out of earshot. “I missed you so f*****g much.” I said to Ava then pulled her up against the wall separating the kitchen and living room. I pressed my lips against hers and she bit on my lip as I swallowed her moan. My tongue softly entered hers and her lips parted allowing me entrance, when I felt it getting hotter I pulled away breathing heavily. “I don't know if you saw the interview.” Ava bit her lip, “I swear I didn't know that it was the same Tracy, I mean I should have known especially when there were all those rumors that she had a child whom she abandoned but she never responded to them and I just completely forgot and didn't –“ “Hey…” I kissed her forehead, “It's okay.” “I was worried that it would all seem dodgy and stuff.” She sighed but then I took her lips in mine again and I felt her sag and her arms came around my neck. She was the one to pull away this time and put some distance between us. “What are we Nigel?” She asked ringing her hands nervously. “I mean, we’ve been on a couple of dates and I-“ “I'm your man baby, and you’re my woman, nothing less.” I answered, “What this means is that though I know that this between is still new and you are just visiting but I see a future with you, I’m down for long distance.” “Really?” she gasped I didn't answer her with words but with rather with my lips engulfing hers again.
