Chapter 4

Ava "Ladies and gentleman, please put on your seatbelts as we are about to land.” I quickly buckled my seatbelt and looked outside the window as the plane slowly descended. This was my first time coming here in a while but when dad, Mark Monroe died of a heart attack last year, my mom, Victoria Monroe moved here from San Francisco to be closer to family. I left home when I was only 16 years old after I got scouted by a modelling agency when I entered a talent search competition, I moved in with my grandparents in Los Angeles where the agency was based. I was now twenty three and my career was skyrocketing; I've done runway, fashion week, a bunch of magazine covers and even a few music videos and a cameo in The Big Bang Theory and New Girl. I decided to finally take a break from Hollywood and come see my mother and my family, after dad died I went back to San Francisco for the funeral then left shortly after since I couldn't stand being in that house with all the memories, mom came with me to L.A for a few weeks but then she woke up one morning and decided that she needed to go back, a few days later she called me and said that she was selling the house and moving to Boston. At first I was heartbroken at the fact that my childhood home was going to be sold but then I realised that mom needed to do this for herself and also, I haven't lived at home in such a long time it would be selfish of me to hold on. She sold it and moved to Boston a few months later, she got a job at the same hospital as my aunt and uncle and bought a small house which I've seen a bunch of pictures of since I hadn't been over to see it because of my busy schedule. It took over seven months but I was here. We finally disembarked the plane and I went over to terminals to get my bags then went to arrivals, looking around for my cousin, Jen. I was supposed to arrive tomorrow but my photo shoot got cancelled at the last minute, it was a shame that my mother wasn't here to welcome me since she along with my aunt Amelia and uncle Jack who was my dad's brother weren't here as they were at the annual doctor's convention in Tucson, Arizona. My phone pinged with a text and I fished it out from my handbag and frowned when I saw Jen's text. Jen: Have a meeting, can't fetch you. Sent Nick's brother, Nigel. Super sorry. See you later, xo! I sighed then slipped off my sunglasses, putting them on my head and looked around for this Nigel person whom I've never seen before. Instead I saw a pregnant woman walking passed me with her husband's arm around her and three toddlers trailing in front of them, I let out a small smile at the sight. It was a sight that I hoped would be my future, coming from being an only child and it always just being me, mom and dad. I wanted a huge family, maybe five kids and a husband who looked at me like I hung the moon, like how dad used to look at mom. In fact I thought that I would already be in some sort of serious relationship by now but nope, no such luck, dating in Hollywood was rough. My last relationship was with a singer, Justin and it was not at all easy, we had conflicting schedules and the paparazzi were always on our tail and oh my gosh the fan girls! So yeah, that didn't work out and dating someone who wasn't in the business was equally hard as they didn't want to be in the spotlight and scrutinized at every turn, so for now I was single. A few minutes later I was still looking around for Nigel when I saw a man with a little girl in his arms and he was staring right at me. My breath caught in my throat. The man was tall, handsome and muscular but not in a meaty wrestler sort of way, in the sexy athlete way. I stood frozen as he made his way over to where I was standing. "Ava?" He questioned as he got closer. His deep voice sent chills down my spine, I loved the way my name sounded coming from his mouth. "Yes, you're Nigel?" I asked and he nodded smiling. His smile was something else, it looked like it belonged on a dental magazine. "I can carry that for you." He gestured towards my bag but I declined because of the now sleeping little girl in his arms. "This is Kayla by the way." He looked at her with such tenderness my heart swelled. "She's cute." I grinned. “Yeah, she is.” Another smile was given then he gestured towards the exit and we walked quietly then we got to the parking lot and he led us to his car. I couldn't help but stare at him, I could see some similarities between him and Jen's boyfriend, Nick who I've seen many pictures of and met last year at my dad's funeral when he came with Jen. But while Nick had a more friendly and easy going personality, Nigel exuded power, he look approachable but unapproachable at the same time, was that even a thing? All in all he looked like a man you don't mess with, he had a nice strong jaw which was perfectly angled and glistening hazel eyes and his mouth was - oh my ! I should not be thinking this way about a man that was obviously married and had a child. I shook my head trying to rid myself of the thoughts suddenly feeling terribly guilty. We got to his car and I climbed in then watched as he strapped his daughter in the car seat then kissed her on the forehead, melting my heart into a puddle. The love he felt for her was written all over his, I'm sure she was a big daddy's girl and had him wrapped around her little pinkie. He closed her door then came around to the driver's side, climbed in and peeled out of the lot.
