Mary thought for a moment before shaking her head and refusing. "Keith only handles major clients. If you're looking to borrow money, you can apply for a credit card. If it's a large amount, you can apply for multiple cards."
It seemed I had come to the right person. Smiling decisively, I said, "That's a great idea. Ms. Crawford, could you give me a business card?"
"Of course. You're Flora's classmate, and we went to the same university. Feel free to reach out anytime." Mary handed me her business card, her face still adorned with a polite smile.
After receiving the card, I paid the bill and used the opportunity to leave. Once I got into the car, I said decisively, "Keep an eye on that woman. Try to find out where she lives. I'm heading to the Grandlight Hotel."
"Hey, why are you going to the Grandlight Hotel? Don't tell me there's a woman waiting for you there," Shirley teased.
"I have something to take care of. Just remember, follow that woman, and don't let her notice you." After giving the instructions, I got out of the car and hailed a taxi to the Grandlight Hotel.
On the eighth floor, I stepped out of the elevator and immediately noticed surveillance cameras mounted on the ceiling. I had no choice but to move closer to the hallway. The area was completely empty. This was the perfect moment to take action.
But acting impulsively without understanding the situation could jeopardize the Fighters. I decided to play it safe and headed to the dining hall on the fourth floor. After casually picking up some food, I returned to the eighth floor and knocked on the door.
"Who is it?" a voice called out from inside.
"Room service. I'm delivering food," I replied.
"We didn't order anything. Stop bothering us," the person inside said irritably.
I wasn't about to leave after coming this far.
"Sir, this is a complimentary service from our hotel. Please accept it," I said patiently, maintaining the tone of a service worker.
The person inside sounded completely fed up. I heard hurried footsteps approach, and then the door swung open. A large man stood there, glaring at me with an aggressive expression.
"Are you deaf or something? I told you to get lost," he growled.
"Sir, this is a special gesture from our hotel for our valued guests. I hope you'll accept it." I pushed the fruit platter forward, smiling and nodding.
The big guy's temper flared. He yanked the door open and shoved me. Using the momentum, I twisted my body and positioned myself in front of the door, leaning back against it as I fell.
"Sir, please be careful. This fruit platter was prepared with great care by our staff," I exclaimed as I rushed into the room. The big guy was so furious he raised his fist to hit me.
Feigning concern for the fruit platter, I braced myself against a nearby cabinet and quickly scanned the room. There were only two other people inside. I was confident I could handle this.
The two men glared at me, their expressions filled with a devilish menace.
The tallest one gave the big guy a look, and the big guy immediately closed the door, cracked his knuckles, and started walking toward me.
'D*mn it. Are they planning to kill me?' I wondered.
Did they think I'd come here unprepared?
"Sir, calm down. I didn't mean to intrude. I'll leave right away," I said, deliberately brushing past the big guy's neck.
With just one swift move, the big guy clutched his neck, struggling and gasping for air. Blood quickly soaked his clothes as he collapsed to the ground with a loud thud.
"What the—" The other two men were stunned. But as soon as they snapped out of it, they charged at me.
This was perfect. I was looking for an opportunity to practice.
The shorter man threw a punch aimed at my face. I stepped back, focusing on his fist as it approached my brow. At the last moment, I pivoted, grabbed him by the back of the neck, and used his momentum to kick him in the rear, sending him headfirst into a cabinet.
The taller man grabbed me by the collar with one hand and lifted me over his head, laughing smugly. "Haha..."
When faced with overwhelming strength, struggling is pointless. So, I didn't resist.
Over the past six years, I hadn't just learned determination from Mike. I'd also mastered courage and honed my skills in martial arts.
I grabbed his wrist and twisted it with all my strength. The big guy let out a scream like a beast being slaughtered.
"Argh, it hurts! It hurts!" he cried out.
"It's supposed to hurt," I said coldly, twisting harder until three of his fingers snapped backward.
With a powerful kick, I flipped him to the ground. Turning back, I unleashed a series of punches to his face.
Blood gushed out like a fountain, but I didn't stop until he was completely motionless. Then I turned my gaze to the last man standing.
Only now did he react. Seeing his companions already down, he grabbed a chair and swung it at me.
I didn't even bother dodging. With a flying kick, I knocked the chair out of his hand, then followed it up with a reverse punch straight to his liver. The man doubled over instantly, gasping for air, his mouth wide open in agony.
Mike had once explained human anatomy to me in detail. He'd taught me about the most vulnerable spots of the human body. To take someone down, one needs to know their weak points.
That punch wouldn't kill him, but it would make him wish it had.
After dealing with the two of them, I turned my attention to the computers in the room. Several screens displayed surveillance footage from inside the casino, and nearby, a headset buzzed with constant chatter.
I slipped the headset on and listened to the internal conversations. They had complete control over the outcome of every bet.
These guys had hacked into the casino's internal systems. They could manipulate the information however they wanted. Even without outright cheating, they could still rake in massive amounts of money.
Honestly, if they wanted to, they could bankrupt the casino in minutes.
Just then, Shirley called.
"Victor, I've tracked them down. They're at 8 Easturb Road. Should I go in?" Her tone made it clear she was fully embracing her role as an assassin.
"No need. Come to the eighth floor of the Grandlight Hotel right away. I'll meet you there," I instructed.
"You... You really went to the Grandlight Hotel?" She sounded surprised.
"Humph." I didn't bother explaining. My eyes drifted back to the computers as a thought crossed my mind, 'What does this have to do with Mary?'
I powered on all five computers and started digging. To my surprise, I uncovered evidence of money laundering routes hidden within their files. I couldn't believe these three were capable of something like this. The deeper I dug, the more trails of laundering I found.
It seemed I'd stumbled upon something dangerous. Just as I was about to shut down the computers and stop overthinking it, a photo suddenly popped up on one of the screens.
It was Flora.
My jaw nearly hit the floor. Why was her picture on these computers?
Overwhelmed by curiosity, I kept investigating. The final results forced me to confront the harsh reality.
Keith had been using Flora as a medium to help launder money, and she had been completely unaware of it.
The laundering methods involved buying luxury properties, antiques, and other high-end items, almost all of them luxury goods.
That was when it hit me. I'd never asked Flora about her job. From what I could see here, she worked as a manager at a luxury goods store in the heart of Fifth Avenue, Northvale's busiest district.
Keith was exploiting Flora for his illegal schemes. He was already a bank executive with a high salary. Wasn't that enough for him?
I was just about to call Brady when a knock at the door startled me.
"Who is it?" I called out, my voice cautious.
"It's me," Shirley replied from the other side.
I glanced at the men still writhing on the floor clutching their stomachs, then opened the door.
"You're amazing, taking them down barehanded. Victor, you're a badass," Shirley said with a grin as she noticed the defeated men on the floor.
"Do you know anything about computers?" I asked her.
"It's a piece of cake," Shirley smirked, striding toward the computers. But the moment she glanced at the screens, her expression turned serious. "Money laundering? And it involves your ex-girlfriend!"
