Chapter Four

1080 Words
Roseline’s POV As the driver dropped me off, I was still holding the box that was given to me. I wanted to angrily throw it away but I was afraid that Mr. Smith might like have eyes watching my every move. I was devastated and confused on what to do next because my family whom I trusted had abandoned me. The same family that I was sacrificing my all for and doing every single thing I could for, looked me in the eye and betrayed me in a way that I never saw coming at all. My eyes scanned through the environment and I didn’t see anyone that I know or might have come across. Going back home was the last thing on my mind because if I was to go back home, I can actually commit atrocities which I would not want to do at all. Besides, I don’t have the energy or strength to do anything to anyone, I just want to be on my own without seeing any of them. “What am I going to do?” I asked myself, pulling the box along with me while I kept walking till I could decide on a destination. I felt like an orphan because I was still in shock that my parents could pull such a stunt with me. Who does that? Do they even care about what will happen to me or what Mr. Smith’s son could do to me? Sadly not. My thoughts then drifted to Mr Smith’s son, “Who even knows what the guy looks like? What if he looks like a monkey? I mean why would they sign me off to marry someone I don’t even know or seen in my life?” I murmured feeling really irritated. I touched the pocket in my skirt and I could feel some wad of cash inside there. All I could think about was to drink enough to clear my mind of the disaster I called today. I heard loud thumps of music coming from somewhere not so far and I traced the sounds to where it was coming from and ended in front of a bar. “Yes! I guess this place can serve as my home right now.” I said to myself, as I carried my box and walked into the bar. I went into the bar with my box as I placed it on one side at the entrance. I walked as majestically as I could, pretending I was used to coming there whereas it was my first time of being in such an environment. I mean what would an accountant be doing at the bar when she has a lot of work to attend to on her desk, meeting deadlines and making sure the financial report of the company is accurate and concise. “Can I get your strongest drink.” I said to a lady standing by. She looked at me skeptically like could read through my facade. “What with the look?” I muttered angrily, as I clicked off my tongue on the roof of my mouth. “How about something not so strong?” She asked me as mixed certain drinks together. “See, just give me anything strong enough to clear my head.” I resolved bitterly. “This should do.” She said, as she gave me a class filled with very clear liquid, you’d almost call it water. After a few minutes, she brought in two bottles of drinks and placed it on my table as she kept staring at me. “This should hold you off” She said already leaving. “How much is my bill” I asked as loud as I could. “Its on the house”, She said tight lipped, as she walked away, probably done with her shift. As soon as the she was out of sight, I opened the drink and gulped it at once. At first it tasted bitter and I wanted to drop it. But I remembered everything I had been through for the past few days, from my colleagues at work that bullied me, to my parents that abandoned me and to Mr. Smith that treated me like a dog. Then I gulped the drink and before I knew it. The first bottle was exhausted. I picked up the second bottle and drank again till it finished, I rushed out through a side door once I realized I could not stop the alcohol from taking its effect in my body system. Everything became really blurry once I remembered I hadn’t really eaten all day and I still drank alcohol on an empty stomach. It all became too much for me to handle as I couldn’t keep myself awake and no one seem to be at the side of the bar where I was as I was also too weak to move myself. I gave in to my exhaustion, giving in to the peace and quiet just for a few seconds. *** After some hours. I woke up and found myself on a couch in the bar, I jumped out of the couch and saw that my clothes were clean and it was much late into the night. “Who is there? Anyone here?!” I shouted out of fear, as I regained consciousness. “Oh, it’s good you’re awake.” A lady walked up to me with a smile. “What happened? Who cleaned me up?” I asked out of curiosity. “Well, your brother came and he took you to the bathroom and changed you out of your previous clothes while you were unconscious out back.” She said turning to point in the direction of where I ran out to when it got too much. “I don’t have a brother!” I said, as I began to fidget. “Someone claimed he was your brother and that’s why we didn’t argue when he took you inside the bathroom.” “Excuse me?” “Sorry ma’am, the boss is calling and I need to go now.” The lady said, as she walked away sharply. As she left, I tried running to the bathroom to check myself only to realize I felt really sore. On getting to the bathroom, it was obvious the stranger had taken advantage me. I had been deflowered by a stranger. The realization struck me hard and left me breathless for a second.
