Today, Jenifer was truly feeling uneasy. Her father was forcing her to go to the city. Although this trip wasn't permanent, being separated from Niklaus was enough to make Jenifer wonder if this might be a bad omen.
"Why are you so quiet, Jane?"
As a father, Macrus naturally had strange thoughts about his daughter.
Over the past few days, he'd been feeling uneasy, and Macrus even began to feel like his decision to move Jenifer to the city so quickly was the right one.
Before his suspicions could come to fruition, Macrus had to act first.
Jenifer didn't answer immediately, her eyes staring blankly at the container that had become her tiny home.
Jenifer had grown up there, moving from place to place, and for the past five years, she and her father had been in this forest. But who would have thought it would all really end?
Macrus was forcing Jenifer to return to school and socialize with humans, and of course, that made him extremely reluctant.
"At your age, you should be excited about returning to the city. You can be with friends your own age, hang out, watch movies, and do whatever you want. But I think I've guessed wrong," Macrus began, quite clearly addressing his daughter's expression.
"No, Dad, you misunderstand," Jennifer tried to convince her father of her lie. "It's just that I feel like if this isn't a return to the city, I'll be leaving my home, my hometown, and the place I've always been and felt comfortable with. It's like being comfortable in a home and then being forced to move. You know how that feels, right?" Jennifer explained.
Honestly, Jennifer longed to be with Niklaus all the time, even though she knew her father wasn't just anyone and that Niklaus and her father were practically mortal enemies. But even Jenifer's feelings for Niklaus couldn't be denied. She loved the werewolf, she was in love with that handsome Alpha!
Macrus then stroked the top of her daughter's head with a faint smile.
“I know, maybe you will feel strange in the city because you grew up in the middle of the forest. But trust me, Jane, you will get used to it and like it. What John said is true, you are a girl who will grow into a woman who will definitely need a partner and so on. It would be selfish if I forced you to stay with me living in the middle of the forest and hunting werewolves, I would have taken away your rights as a child.”
"No!" Jennifer immediately denied it firmly.
Her eyes were glazed over, staring at her father.
"I don't think so at all, Dad, believe me. I even think I've gotten too comfortable and don't want to go to the city, and—"
"Do you want to grow old in the woods? Don't you want to get married? Find a boy you like, date, and have lots of other exciting experiences?"
Jennifer paused, clutching her chest at that.
Get married?
Get to know a boy?
Have lots of exciting experiences and go on dates?
Truly, Jennifer wanted to do that too, but she knew her boyfriend was already right before her eyes, Niklaus.
But dating and doing lots of exciting things—is that even possible?
"Hurry, Josh is waiting by the roadside."
"Okay, Dad," Jennifer finally said.
