The Broken Bed

542 Words
“D… Dad?” Edward froze in place as he saw his daughter standing in front of the bathroom door, wearing a towel. He knew that Jennifer was an adult, and it wasn’t right for him to just barge into her room, even though she was his daughter. After all, she deserved her privacy, and he would surely feel awkward with this rather possessive attitude of his. “Sorry…” he said, scratching the back of his neck uncomfortably. “Did something happen in your room?” Edward asked. “How come your bed is… broken and destroyed like this, Jane? I think the bed—” “Dad…” Jennifer hurriedly approached her shattered bed. She had to quickly think of an idea to keep her father from getting curious. “You told me to stay here alone because you smelled a werewolf. I was scared, so I thought being in my room alone with a little music would calm me down. Who would have thought I’d enjoy the music playing a little louder, and then… yes…” Jennifer pointed to her bed. "I happily jumped on the bed and it broke like this. I'm sorry, Dad. I had no idea I was so heavy and big to break this bed." "It's okay, Jane. You don't have to feel guilty. I know you're panicked and afraid of being left alone, and it's normal for you to listen to music to calm your panic. But I think listening to loud music might invite something dangerous to come in, right?" Jennifer paused, then nodded. "You don't have to think about it. Just leave everything and sleep on the sofa in front of the TV for a while tonight. I think your bed is old and the wood is rotten. Tomorrow I'll find the strongest and most durable wood for your bed, and I'll make you a new one that's bigger and more comfortable." Jennifer smiled faintly, but deep down, she felt guilty for lying to her father. In fact, she was quite afraid that her father might notice something. However, hearing her father say that made Jennifer breathe a little easier. This was certainly a good and special role. "Thank you, Dad." Erdward smiled briefly, then waved his hand. "Get changed quickly. I'll cook for you, and then we'll eat." Jenifer nodded enthusiastically. "Okay, what are we going to eat tonight, Dad?" Erdward chuckled. Even since she was little, his daughter had always asked him this question; what to eat seemed to be a characteristic of Jenifer. Just like her mother had when she was alive. And slowly, Erdward smiled faintly. "I have fresh venison. I think we'll be having venison in a week." "Yeah! This is my favorite food. I think we ate venison a month ago, right?" Erdward immediately left Jenifer's room and closed her daughter's door behind her. Jenifer quickly ran to the window to see a figure hiding among the tall tree branches there. The figure smiled meaningfully, then leaped from tree to tree with incredible agility. This naturally delighted Jennifer. She squeezed the end of the towel still wrapped around her naked body and smiled faintly. "Is this a sign that we're in a relationship, Sir?" Jennifer murmured.
