This morning, Erdward noticed something strange in Jennifer's room, as he was about to make a new bed.
The bed's cracks were perfectly normal, but there was something distinctly unnatural about the scent of Jennifer's room, and… the fur left behind.
It was fur from a wild animal.
Either a dog, a bear, or even a wolf.
Or was it fur from a werewolf?
Erdward sniffed the fur, and he could tell it was definitely werewolf fur.
Seeing this, his chest suddenly felt tight.
A feeling of disapproval gnawed at him, and he wanted to scream and ask his daughter just to confirm what was raging in his mind.
But was that even possible?
The Jenifer Erdward knew was someone who only hung around the forest and was guaranteed to be safe. Even if there were werewolves, wouldn't they have harmed her?
Seeing Jenifer in perfect condition certainly confused Erdward beyond belief, didn't it?
"Jenny, can I ask you a question?" Edward called out to his daughter, who he knew was watching TV.
"Yes, Dad?"
"Did you lock your bedroom window when you went out while I was hunting yesterday?"
Jennifer didn't answer for a moment, then a soft voice spoke.
"No, I forgot to close the window. Even the door was open," Jennifer replied.
Jennifer knew her father might be suspicious, and that was all the more reason for her to find the best excuse to keep him from thinking anything else about her.
Edward nodded. He already suspected a werewolf had come into Jenifer's room while she wasn't home, and this was certainly a very frightening situation.
And he couldn't remain silent; he had to ensure his daughter's safety, as he didn't want anything to happen to her.
"Is something wrong, Dad?" Jennifer asked again, just to be sure.
Jennifer was truly anxious, afraid that her father might find out that her bed wasn't broken because she jumped on it, but because she had had a steamy affair with a man her father hated so much.
She didn't know why, but now she was starting to feel incredibly anxious. Even the spectacle that usually made her laugh couldn't help it.
"No, it's nothing. I guess, when you went out with me a while ago, I wasn't sure I locked the door properly. It's just that a wild animal might have gotten into your room."
Jennifer swallowed.
"But, luckily, when you came back, the animal was gone. Seeing this, I'm even more convinced that we should return to the city immediately, but while we're still here for a while, I need to set up some traps to keep you safe, okay?"
A small sigh of relief.
It turned out that Edward hadn't thought about what Jennifer had done, and this was incredibly gratifying.
However, this only made Edward even more determined to take Jennifer to the city. This meant she would be separated from Alpha Niklaus, and it seemed she would have to meet the wolf-man and tell him about this.
Jennifer's hands gripped her warm blanket tightly, and she stood up and grabbed her red coat.
"Um, Dad. I saw some wild cherries and pears at the edge of the forest. I'll pick some for our snack, okay?"
"But, Jane—"
Jennifer ran without warning, her breath quickening and her tripping over branches.
Tears streamed down Jenifer's cheeks, filled with anxiety and a desire to meet Alpha Niklaus.
Finally, Jenifer saw a pair of feet. When she looked up, she saw Alpha Niklaus kneeling before her with that warm, captivating smile.
"Alpha... Niklaus..."
