Chapter 13: No One Touches What's Mine

738 Words
It was 3 days after the Luna ceremony. Things were good. Too good. Lila was officially Luna. The pack was starting to accept her. Maya braided her hair in the mornings. The elders bowed to her now. And every night, Damon came to bed and held her like she was air. Until the alarms went off at 2AM. Lila jolted awake. Damon was already moving. “Stay here,” he said. Voice hard. But Lila felt it in the bond. Fear. Anger. _Tyler._ She was already pulling on clothes when Damon stormed back in. “He’s at the border,” Damon said. “With 10 wolves. Says he’s here to ‘talk’.” Lila’s stomach dropped. “He’s not getting in.” Damon looked at her. Really looked. His jaw ticked. “Stay behind me. No matter what.” They walked to the gates together. Hand in hand. Tyler was there. Alone this time. But his pack was in the trees. He looked wrecked. Eyes red. Like he hadn’t slept. “Lila,” he said. “Baby, come talk to me. Just for 5 minutes.” Damon stepped in front of her. “She’s not yours to call baby.” Tyler laughed, but it was bitter. “You think that mark means anything? You think she loves you? She’s human, Damon. She’ll leave you too.” Lila stepped around Damon. “Tyler. Stop.” Tyler’s eyes lit up. “Lila—” “No,” Lila said. Firm. “You rejected me. You humiliated me. And now you show up threatening me? I’m not yours. I’m Damon’s. And I’m happy.” Tyler’s face twisted. “You don’t mean that.” “I do,” Lila said. She reached back and took Damon’s hand. “I love him.” That was it. Damon snapped. He shifted. Not partial. Full. 7 feet of black wolf with silver eyes and teeth that could tear through steel. A growl rolled through the territory. Tyler backed up. “Damon, don’t—” Damon lunged. Not at Tyler. At the ground between them. Claws tearing into dirt. “Last time,” Damon snarled, voice inhuman. “You come near my Luna again, and I will kill you. Slowly.” Tyler swallowed. “She’s not—” “Mine,” Damon finished. He shifted back, but didn’t look away from Tyler. His eyes were still glowing. “Say her name again and you die here.” The standoff lasted 10 seconds. Then Tyler turned and ran. His wolves followed. Damon stood there, breathing hard. The second they were gone, he turned to Lila. His hands came up and framed her face. Checking her. “Did he touch you? Did he scare you?” Lila shook her head. “I’m okay. Because of you.” Damon exhaled. Then he pulled her into his arms and held her so tight she could barely breathe. “I thought—” his voice cracked. “When the alarm went off, I thought I lost you.” Lila wrapped her arms around him. “You didn’t. You never will.” Damon kissed her. Hard. Frantic. Like he needed to prove she was real. Right there at the gates, with guards watching. When he pulled back, his forehead was against hers. “Let’s go home,” he whispered. --- *Back in their room* Damon couldn’t stop touching her. Hands in her hair. On her back. On her face. Kissing her like he was making sure she was okay. “Are you sure you’re alright?” he asked again. Lila nodded and pulled him down to the bed. “I’m sure. Stay with me.” Damon did. He held her all night. One arm around her, the other over her mark like he was guarding it. Every hour he’d wake up and check if she was still breathing. By morning, Lila woke to kisses on her neck. Soft. Worshipful. “Morning, Luna,” Damon murmured. Lila turned in his arms. “Morning, Alpha.” Damon growled and rolled her under him. “Don’t call me that unless you mean it.” Lila smiled. “I mean it.” He kissed her. Slow. Deep. Full of relief and love and _mine_. Outside, the pack was safe. Tyler was gone. And inside, the Alpha who thought love was dead... was holding his Luna like she was the world. --- *End of Chapter 13* ---
