Chapter Nine – The Village Beyond the Mist The journey felt endless. Days turned into nights, and the wheels of the carriage rolled over miles of silence. Aria sat quietly, her fingers brushing the silver pendant against her chest whenever despair tried to take her. It pulsed faintly at her touch, as though Kael’s promise still breathed inside it. By the third dawn, the royal guards left her at the edge of a forgotten valley—a place shrouded in soft, silver mist. “This is as far as we go, my lady,” one said, not meeting her eyes. “The Queen’s orders.” When they turned their horses and rode away, Aria stood alone beneath the whispering trees. For the first time in her life, there were no walls around her—only freedom, vast and uncertain. She walked until her feet ached, following the faint sound of rushing water. The mist thinned to reveal a small village nestled beside a crystal river, its cottages built of stone and ivy. Children laughed in the distance. Women hung linens in the morning sun. The air smelled of herbs and wildflowers. A kind-faced woman approached her. “You must be lost, dear one. Come, rest a while.” Aria hesitated, then nodded, exhaustion softening her pride. Chapter Eleven – Flames of the Heart The moon had waned, but its mark remained upon Aria. Each day she trained under Elda’s watchful eye, learning how to guide the strange red light that pulsed within her palms. It could heal, mend, even breathe life into things thought lost—but when her emotions burned too fiercely, it became wild and untamed. “The gift answers to your heart,” Elda said gently one morning as they knelt beside the river. “If your love is steady, your power will be too. But if you let fear rule you…” Aria nodded, her gaze soft but determined. “Then love must be my strength.” Elda smiled faintly. “You are wiser than most queens, child.” Each night, when the stars shone above Eldervale, Aria closed her eyes and reached out with her heart—and somewhere far away, Kael felt her call. --- In the palace of Velaria, Prince Kael moved like a ghost among his own halls. The Queen’s council spoke of rebellion in the east and unrest among the villages. But his thoughts were only of her. His most trusted knight, Captain Rowan, entered quietly. “You sent for me, my prince?” Kael turned from the window, his expression firm. “I’m leaving the capital. Tonight.” Rowan’s eyes widened. “Your Majesty—if the Queen learns—” “She already has my obedience,” Kael said, his voice calm but edged with sorrow. “She will not have my heart.” He lifted his cloak and fastened his sword to his side. “I must find her, Rowan. I felt her. She’s alive.” Rowan bowed, understanding at once. “Then I ride with you.” As the castle slept beneath its towers of marble and moonlight, two horses slipped quietly through the gates, hooves muffled by fog. --- Back in Eldervale, Aria’s pendant glowed brighter than it ever had before. She looked up at the horizon, a soft smile breaking through her tears. “He’s coming,” she whispered. Elda looked at her in wonder. “How can you be sure?” Aria’s eyes shimmered like dawn. “Because the heart knows when it’s being called home.” The wind stirred around her, carrying petals from the crimson roses blooming by the river—roses that hadn’t existed before her touch. Somewhere between them, fate stirred. The bond of light and blood, forged beneath the crimson moon, was calling both their hearts toward a destiny that could either unite the kingdom… or destroy it forever The woman led her into a cottage where the fire burned warm and bright. “I am Elda, healer of the Vale. You can stay here until you find your strength again.” Aria thanked her, her voice trembling. But as she lay that night by the hearth, something strange happened—the pendant on her chest began to glow softly, casting red light over the room. She sat up, startled, watching as the glow shimmered and pulsed in time with her heartbeat. For a brief moment, she thought she heard Kael’s voice—distant and faint, carried on the wind. > “Aria… stay safe. I will find you.” Tears filled her eyes, but they were different this time—not from pain, but from hope. The next morning, she helped Elda gather herbs from the forest. When Aria touched a wounded branch, the leaves stirred—and healed. The cut sealed itself under her fingers. Elda stared in awe. “Child… what did you just do?” Aria looked down at her hand, trembling. “I… I don’t know.” Chapter Ten – The Crimson Bond Days turned into weeks in the quiet village of Eldervale. Aria had begun to find peace among its people—helping the healer Elda, tending to the sick, and learning the language of herbs and moonlight. Yet, every night beneath the stars, she still touched the pendant around her neck, feeling its pulse echo her heart’s ache for Kael. It was on the night of the crimson moon that her life changed again. The villagers gathered near the river, their faces lifted to the glowing red orb that filled the sky. Aria stood among them, feeling a strange warmth spreading through her veins. The pendant shimmered, growing brighter with each heartbeat until it burned like fire against her skin. A voice—soft, ancient, and familiar—filled her mind. > “The blood of the moon runs in your veins, child of crimson. The heart that heals can also awaken.” Aria gasped, clutching her chest. The ground beneath her feet seemed to hum with power. Elda caught her before she fell. “Aria! What’s happening?” “I don’t know,” Aria whispered, eyes wide as a soft red light flowed from her hands. “It’s… calling me.” The villagers stepped back in awe as flowers bloomed where her tears fell, glowing faintly under the moon’s light. Meanwhile, far across the kingdom, Prince Kael stood on the palace balcony, staring at the same crimson moon. He had barely slept; the Queen’s council was tearing the realm apart with fear and greed. Whispers of rebellion were spreading through Velaria, and his heart—his soul—felt the same unrest. Then he felt it—a rush of warmth, a pull deep inside. The pendant he’d made for Aria glowed faintly beneath his shirt. He placed a trembling hand over it. > “Aria?” In that instant, across miles and silence, her voice reached him—a whisper carried on magic and longing. > “Kael… I’m here.” He froze, tears glinting in his eyes. “By the gods… she’s alive.” And though they were worlds apart, they felt it together—the bond between them reigniting, brighter than before. Aria fell to her knees by the river, exhausted but glowing. Elda looked upon her with wonder. “You are not just a healer, child,” she said softly. “You are part of something much greater.” Aria lifted her gaze to the crimson moon, her heart steady and strong. “I will find a way back to him,” she whispered. “And when I do, the world will remember what love can conquer.” But deep inside, something ancient stirred—a power sleeping within her blood, waiting to be claimed. And far away, in the royal palace, Prince Kael woke from a restless dream, clutching his chest. For the first time since Aria left, he felt it—a warmth spreading through him, as though her heart had reached across the distance to touch his.
