The music thudded through the club’s speakers, a bass-heavy rhythm that vibrated in my bones as the crowd pulsed in time with the beat. I was half-distracted, trying to keep up with Demi as she pulled me through the sea of bodies, dragging me toward the dance floor. My heart was pounding from more than just the music, though. It was the anticipation of being in a place so alive, so full of energy—and the nagging feeling that something could go wrong at any moment. And then I felt it. A presence behind me. I didn’t need to look to know who it was. Asher. His heat pressed against my back, his body moving in time with mine, so close I could feel every movement of him. It was like he was magnetized to me, unable to stay away. I tensed, trying not to react, trying to keep my composure as he leaned in, his breath warm against the side of my neck. “Did you miss me, piggy?” His voice was low, teasing, but the edge of something darker lingered in his tone. I shot him a look over my shoulder, raising an eyebrow. “Not in the slightest.” He chuckled darkly, the sound vibrating through me. “We’ll see about that.” I felt his fingers brush against the side of my arm, his touch light but purposeful, like a warning. The tension between us was palpable, and I hated that I couldn’t help but feel a spark of electricity every time he came near me. “Don’t ruin this for yourself.” He whispered, his lips barely grazing my ear as he spoke. There was something incredibly seductive in the way he said it, something that made my pulse race and my mind go hazy. Before I could stop myself, I shot back, “I didn’t realize you thought you had the power to ruin anything for me.” He laughed again, the sound a little too smug for my liking. “Oh, I do. Trust me.” And then, just like that, his hand slid down my thigh, his fingers brushing against my skin as they lingered for a moment longer than necessary. The touch was electric, sending a jolt through me that I couldn’t ignore, despite every part of me wanting to pull away. The chill from his touch traveled up my spine, and I fought to keep my breathing steady as he leaned in closer, his lips barely touching my ear as he whispered, “You should be careful, piggy. You might end up wanting more than you bargained for.” I shivered, and not from the cold. His words, the way his presence seemed to fill up every inch of space between us—it was too much. Too powerful. But as much as I hated it, as much as I wanted to push him away, part of me was drawn to him. And I couldn’t figure out if it was because he was a challenge, or if it was something darker. He leaned back, eyes glinting with amusement as he studied me, and for a moment, I couldn’t tell if I wanted to slap him or kiss him. I was seething, the anger bubbling up inside me, but I couldn’t ignore the weird tension still simmering between us. I clenched my jaw, trying to ignore the sudden warmth spreading through my body, trying not to let Asher get under my skin. His hand had barely left my thigh when I spun around, pushing him back slightly with a hard shove. “Don’t ever touch me like that again!” I said, my voice sharper than I intended. Asher’s smirk only widened, and for a split second, I could see the challenge in his eyes. He took a slow step forward, the space between us closing until I could feel the heat radiating from his body again. “You sure about that?” He asked, his voice low, teasing, like he wasn’t taking me seriously at all. I stared up at him, my pulse racing in a mix of fury and something else I didn’t want to acknowledge. “I’m more than sure.” “Then why are you still standing so close to me?” he shot back, his breath hot against my face. I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest. “Don’t flatter yourself,” I said, raising my chin defiantly. “You think I’m some damsel you can just push around? Sorry, but you’re wrong.” He took another step forward, his smirk never faltering. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say you like the attention, piggy. You sure you don’t want to admit it?” I swallowed, the anger burning even hotter now. My heart was racing, but it wasn’t just from the adrenaline—it was from something else, something I couldn’t quite name. I couldn’t let him see how much he was affecting me, but damn it, it was getting harder. With a flick of my wrist, I reached for his shirt, my fingers brushing against the fabric as I leaned in close, a mischievous grin tugging at the corner of my lips. “Maybe I do like the attention.” I said, my voice turning flirtatious, though the anger still simmered beneath. “But you’re not the one I’m interested in, Asher. Keep dreaming.” I let go of his shirt and stepped back, just enough to leave some space between us, but I kept my eyes locked on his. Asher’s eyes flared with something darker, and I could see the shift in his expression. The amusement faded, replaced by that dangerous intensity that made my breath catch in my throat. “You’re playing a dangerous game, piggy.” He warned, his tone low and threatening. But even as I could feel the weight of his words, I couldn’t help but lean into the tension. If he thought he could make me bend to his will, he was wrong. I wasn’t going to back down. “Well, maybe I like a little danger.” I said with a wink, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “You should try keeping up.”
