Sholan Wolf

Luciana We only had one class left until this nightmare of a day was finally over. At this point, I was counting down the clock to get out of here. Not that I was anticipating getting back home either. We headed to the cafeteria for lunch, and the whole time Lorena stuck to me like some sort of pest. Even though I was never one to let people get too close to me, having her around helped reduce the tension with the triplets and made me feel less alone. I ordered a plate of salad and a drink which was all I could afford and as we were about to find a table, I saw the mean trio sauntering toward us. “Well, if it isn’t the new slut in town.” Elena called tauntingly. “Do we really have to do this again?” I sighed, holding the tray of food in my hands. “Did you hear something?” Elena asked, turning toward Charlotte and Avery. “Come on Elena, move out of our way.” Lorena interjected with a slight frown on her face. “What did the little freak say?” Avery asked, her eyes narrowing. “She didn’t just tell you to move, did she?” Charlotte said, hands on hips, blocking our way. “It couldn’t have been,” Avery sneered, “You should be careful how you act. Don’t think for a second that just because you’re hanging with this slut, that that puts you in the clear, Lorena.” “You don’t want what happened last year to happen again, do you?” Avery chimed in, and the girls broke out in mocking laughter. “If you’re that hurt about Mateo ignoring you all day, then maybe that should tell you that he’s not just interested in you. Or maybe he’s seen you for who you truly are – a mean bully with insecurities. Or maybe it’s all the makeup you wear to hide that big ugly face of yours.” I interjected with a sinister smirk. “Come on, Elena. You didn’t think that we all didn't notice it, did you?” I said, my voice loud enough for everyone around to hear. Seeing the snickering from the small group of people that had gathered around us, Elena’s face flushed with embarrassment. Her brows furrowed angrily, and she stepped forward, her expression darkening, “Watch your back new girl.” She threatened and walked away. Mateo and his siblings arrived shortly after she left, as the cafeteria doors opened. Right away, everyone stopped talking and stared at them with a mixture of dread, wonder, adoration, and envy on their faces. I don’t know why people here treated them like they were gods, but I wasn’t keen on finding out either. I shook my head and went back to my meal. Yet again, I could hear their footsteps slowly approaching my direction, and then suddenly, they stopped. I lifted my gaze and saw them sitting a few seats away from us, staring directly at my direction. At this point, I was fed up. The last thing I wanted when I started at this school was to have so much attention on me, and these guys were making it very hard to keep a low profile. The other students started whispering, casting looks in my direction, raising my anger. I wanted to march over there and ask them why they were following me throughout the school, but Lorena grasped my hand and shook her head disapprovingly before I could get up. “Whatever you’re thinking Luci, don’t do it.” She whispered. I groaned inwardly, trying to compose myself when the school alarm suddenly sounded. It was time for gym class, and it was the only class I was quite looking forward to. I’ve always excelled in sports and physical activities. Admittedly, being part-wolf had always given me the edge, but it was also the only time I could take out all the anger and frustration bubbling inside me. As we arrived at the gym for dodge ball practice, I spotted Isabella again. Immediately she saw me, a sinister smile plastered across her lips. She walked up and stopped in front of me, shifting her gaze between Lorena and me. “You’re in my turf now newbie, I hope you have fast reflexes.” After saying that, she turned toward the rest of the team, and made her selection, leaving me with only Lorena and some other girls that looked too afraid to compete. The gym coach arrived shortly after, and seeing that we already picked our teams, she blew her whistle and the match up began. I had underrated her a little because Isabella struck out almost everyone in my team in no time, leaving just Lorena and I standing. At this point, she walked up to me again with a smug smile on her face, “I’m going to knock those teeth out. Let’s see how confident you’ll be when you can’t even smile.” The coach blew the whistle, and in one swing, she struck Lorena out, leaving just me against four of her teammates. The other students gathered, watching and shaking their heads pitifully at me. They all thought I was a goner. Isabella squinted her eyes and swung the ball as hard and rapidly as she could, aiming it straight at my face. However, my wolf reacted swiftly, holding the ball just in front of my face before it struck me. Isabella’s eyes grew wide with shock as the entire crowd screamed in surprise. Infuriated, she cast a knowing look at her other teammates and they all threw their balls forcefully at me. But with a series of quick and easy maneuvers, I dodged every strike, counterattacking and striking each of them out. The whole place went wild with loud cheers, quickly surrounding me, and from the corner of my eyes I could see Isabella groan in frustration and stormed out of the gym. After the place quieted down, I went into the locker room to shower and change back into my clothes, but immediately I stepped in, she charged at me aggressively, and her eyes flashed with murderous intent. Immediately assuming control of my body, my wolf sidestepped her strike and delivered a forceful blow to her neck, causing her to collapse to the ground. Isabella tried to stand up but couldn’t, and before I even realized what I’d done, the rest of the girls in the locker room screamed, drawing the attention of everyone else in the gym, including our coach. In no time, the doors to the locker room swung open and our coach, Shirley, saw me standing in front of Isabella, fist folded in anger. “You, out now!” She yelled at me, hurrying towards Isabella. She held two fingers up, “Are you okay Izzy?” I didn’t need to turn to see the eyes glued to me, filled with fear, resentment, and disbelief. Lorena’s eyes widened in disbelief, stunned by how easily I’d taken Isabella down. The longer I stared at her, the clearer I could see the curiosity on her face, trying to make sense of how this was possible. At that point, my fists slowly unclenched, realizing what I’d done. “I’m so sorry,” I muttered, my voice starting to break. Isabella may have been a mean bully, but if I struck her a little harder, I could have killed her. With that flowing through my mind, I turned and ran out of the locker room, but I could hear Lorena’s footsteps closely behind me. I didn’t want her around right now. My emotions were heightened and I was slowly losing control of my wolf. Lorena wasn’t safe around me right now. No one was.
