The Memory

Riley’s POV

**Flashback**2 Years ago**

“RUN,” she said handing me an envelope and a backpack

“RUN AND NEVER LOOK BACK,” she told me.

And I did. I ran west into the woods. As I was running I heard footsteps running after me. I ran faster, faster than I have before. Zig zagging through the trees trying to lose them. After a while, I lost them. When my lungs felt like they were on fire I stopped to catch my breath, still on alert. When I took a step forward a surge of pain shot through me. I knew I wasn't going to be able to run anymore. So instead I decided to climb a tree, and get out of sight. I found a tree whose branches would be sturdy enough to hold me, and wide enough for me to sit comfortably. When I was sitting as comfortably as possible on a tree branch, I looked at the envelope. After about a minute of looking at it, I decided to open it. There was a letter. I unfolded it and it said,

My Love,

If you're reading this it means they found us, and I told you to run and I'm most likely dieded. I wish i had the chance to tell you this myself. I'm not your mother, I'm your aunt. I was asked to take care of you after you were born. If you are thinking that i was asked to take you because your parents didn’t want you, you're wrong. They did it because they love you and this was the only thing they could do to insure your safety.

You are not human, your mother was a Goddess and your father the Demon King. there were people after you and your brother because they had no idea how much power you both would have. Yes you have a brother, a twin brother. His name is Ryan, he is with my sister Lizzy, and I know she will do anything in her power to keep him safe.

In the envelope is a necklace. You and your brother have matching ones. You were only supposed to know about this on your 16th birthday when you would be ready for your shifts. I can’t tell you what you will shift to but I know you and your brother will be 2 of the most powerful beings in the world. When you put the necklace on it will call forth your other spirits but you will not be able to shift until you are 16. You will also be able to speak and see each other in your dreams if you both halve your necklaces, but I must warn you, your brother will most likely not receive his until he is 16. There are other ways to manipulate the necklaces power but i do not know them, you must figure it out on your own

I hope you will be safe until you meet Ryan and Lizzy, but until then remember what I taught you, and remember that I will always love you.

After I had tears in my eyes. I had just lost the only family I had, the person I always thought was my mom wasn't, I had a twin brother out there somewhere, my real parents out there somewhere, and that I'm not human. I'm part God part Demon. This is like an information overlord. I mean I'm only 7 for God's sake. That means I have 9 years until I can contact my brother through dreams. I looked in the envelope and saw a piece of fabric with a ribbon tied in a bow. That must be the necklace mo-Ellie was talking about. I folded it up, put it in and took out the fabric. I undid the bow carefully and saw the necklace. It was a 30” silver snake chain, with a silver circle pendant that had “A brother is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit.” engraved in it on the front and “RR” on the back. When I was done admiring it I put it on. By now the sun had set. I still had the backpack on and decided to look at what was in it. There were three pockets on it, the first had a Camelback water pouch that was full of water and had a couple of granola bars in it. The second had 2 things of flint and steel, a pocket knife, a multi-tool, a wet stone - to sharpen knives-, a role of fishing string, 20 Fast Flight strings, - for bows - 5 things of sewing thread - for arrow fletchings - a role of paracord, a compass and extra-large men's hoodie. In the third pocket, there was a list of stuff that I would need to remember how to do and 100,000 dollars in American cash. I put the fabric and letter in the third pocket, moved the list and cash to the first and granola bars to the third. Then I hear a voice in my head that scares me, almost making me fall off the branch.

'Hi, Riley'' the voice says.

'Who are you?' I asked it in my head not wanting to talk out loud in case someone could hear me.

' don’t be scared' a different voice said

'We’re your other spirit' another voice said

' the ones Lizzy wrote about in the letter' 2 other voices said at the same time.

'Ok then' I started saying ' what are your names and what type of different spirit are you I guess?'

'I'm Killen, your kitsune spirit or fox to make it simple, but we would be what's considered a gold cross fox'

'Aaron, angel Spirit.'

'Eli, your Elf'

'Your Mage spirit Mason'

' last but certainly not least, Greyson your god spirit,'

'So there are 5 of you in my head?' i ask them

'It’s more like sharing your body.' Eli said

' When you turn 16 and shift into us we will change your appearance.' says Greyson.

'hair, eyes, clothes, mostly.' Mason said

'Except for me, when I shift we turn into a kitsune or a fox if you want to simplify it.' Killen told me

'That's so cool, but aside from shifting when we’re 16 and having you guys to talk to now, are there any abilities I can use now that I can talk to you?'

'Yes, you can use our super-strength, enhanced eyesight, hearing, and smell, but they won’t be as strong as they will be after we shift, and when you turn nine you can even summon our weapons.' Aaron said

'What weapons are they?' i ask

' Well, Eil has twin daggers, and a longbow, Mason has his staff and a whip, Aaron has a sword and throwing knives and I have a long sword and saber claws.' Greyson told me

'Cool, that sounds awesome, but right now we need a place to sleep for tonight.'

'Sounds like a plan.' 'cool' 'ok' 'sure' 'alright' they say at the same time.

'So how can I use these enhance abilities?' 'just calm yourself and focus on what you want to enhance.' Killen says

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath in, deep breath out, in, out, in, out. I can hear the chirps of the crickets, the running water of a stream, the steady heartbeat of other animals, I could smell the grass, the stream, the animals, not the scent of the people that were after me.

'I think it's clear to climb down and find a spot to sleep tonight.'

They don't respond so I assume it’s clear for me to climb down. I walk around for a bit and I find a little cave on the side of a hill. I ask the guys 'do you think this cave is good enough for tonight.' 'It should be good for tonight little pup.'Killen says. I pull out the hoodie, put it on to keep me warm when I sleep, grab and eat one of the granola bars for something in my stomach. Then I crawl into the cave, and fall asleep but not before asking the guys if they can wake me up early so we can start moving to a safe location.
