"It is my pleasure to make this deal with you. I could really need your help," Theodore said warmly. His deep blue eyes were incredibly charming.
"What do I need to do?" Aoife asked, flipping through the contract in front of her without admiring the handsome man before her.
The contract only briefly mentioned her responsibilities. She had no idea what kind of fake fiancée she was supposed to be. She desperately needed a guide.
"Do you like spending money?" Theodore asked instead of answering. He then took an envelope from drawer and hand it to Aoife.
Aoife has sharp eyes, she knows it is a credit card. With carefully open the envelope and almost gasped at the special design on the card. She had seen this type of credit card once before, held by a rich heiress she protected.
If it wasn't for her envious handler explaining its significance, Aoife would have known nothing about its exclusivity. Only the top clients at the bank eligible to get this card. With her credit score, she was not even eligible to hear about the description of this card.
She never thought she would have the chance to held one herself. The card likely contain an unimaginable amount of money. She mumbled, "Well... it is a woman nature."
"As my fiancée, your first task is to spend a lot of money use my name. Tell New York that you are the fiancée of the Winslow family's heir." Said Theodore, generously.
Aoife stare at the card in her hand, repeatedly examining it in disbelief. "What is the limit?"
Theodore laughed. "One billion dollars. As long as it's legal, you can throw money for it. If you're brave and clever enough to try something grey, you'll have to cover the potential lawyer’s fees yourself."
Aoife, clearly knowing how much a lawyer earned, promised, "Boss, I'll make sure I do my job well."
With trembling hands, Aoife took out her phone. Even though she was a skilled soldier, this was the first time she holds such a large fortune. She opens the calculator app and carefully entered the long string of zeros, and amazed again.
The amount of money on this card was more than the top prize in the lottery. Aoife feels like she is in a wonderful dream, and the handsome man before her seemed to glow with a holy light. She now truly understood that her life had changed dramatically the moment she signed the contract.
Taking a deep breath, Aoife reassure her professionalism: "Don't worry Boss, even with this money, I won't fall in love with you. When the contract ends, I'll leave without causing you any trouble. Retreating is a basic skill for a good soldier."
Theodore once again surprised by this woman. Most women he encountered saw him as a dream prince from a fairy tale, who brought immense wealth from higher class. They couldn't resist showing off and trying to win his eyes. He had assumed Aoife would use these two years to flatter him in any way.
She might try to seduce him with her sun-kissed tan skin and impressive figure, turning him into a wild beast. This was a risk Theodore need to deal with sham marriage, but Aoife's firm stance on protecting his interests surprised him.
Theodore smiles, a hint of pity and expectation in his eyes. "My family is hosting a party tonight. I want you to come with me." He looks Aoife closely, hoping to get more information from her face.
If this poor woman is vain, it would be more fun when she interact with his family members.
Aoife is shocked. "I don't have a dress for the party."
She restless, like a soldier on the battlefield who forgot their weapon. She just retired, and her wardrobe was filled with practical t-shirts and pants. While perfect for a soldier, but not for any party.
"Then you need to go shopping and buy any dress you like." Theodore suggest, sounds very thoughtful.
"I am overwhelmed by so much money. What to worry about with this money? Thank you, boss, I know I can get anything I want, right now!" Aoife is excited, eager to rush out of the office and speed to the high-end shopping mall in her neighbour’s old car.
"Aoife," very suddenly, Theodore add another requirement. "You know, my family members are very competitive, but they also value personal connections. Choose a ‘Aoife’ dress for the event, okay?"
Theodore's words carries a hidden agenda that Aoife does not notice. The Winslow family members were top clients of luxury brands, always wearing haute couture and mocking anyone who was not eligible for it. No matter how expensive a dress Aoife bought, she will be humiliated. Just being in the same room with Aoife would offended them.
Aoife's understanding of social interactions was simple. She genuinely praised, "Boss, you're right. Even in high-pressure undercover work, pretending to be someone else always risks exposure. But if I act according to my personalities, our contract's confidentiality will be greatly enhanced."
Aoife rush to left this office. She had heard about New York's bustling malls, and now it is her turn to enjoy them. She feels like the luckiest girl in the world.
"Boss, thank you for this card. Let me drive you. I don't know much about pretend a fiancée, but since we have a family party tonight, we should stay together today. My driving skills are excellent. As you can see from my resume, I have all kinds of driving license in this state, good as a professional racing driver."
Not waiting for a response, Aoife wrapp her arm around Theodore's neck, treating him like a fellow mercenary and bending his straight spine.
Theodore's perfect poker face crashed. He never expected his rough pretend fiancée to do something like this to him, he is too shock to stop her action.
Aoife laugh out loud, "Don't you want to try? You've never felt the thrill of a shark swing across the city."
Theodore give up resisting. His voice, muffled by Aoife's arm, "I've driven many supercars, never felt like a shark."
No resist at all, Theodore got into the shotgun in that old car, belongs to her neighbor's.
