CHAPTER THREE

1906 Words
The next morning, Loretta woke up feeling anxious and uncertain. She had spent the entire night thinking about her parents' decision to send her to an all-boys school, and she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. She got out of bed and began getting ready for the day, her mind racing with thoughts of what lay ahead. As she dressed and prepared for breakfast, Loretta couldn't help but wonder what the day would bring. Would she be able to adjust to her new school? Would she make any friends? Would she be able to prove herself in a male-dominated environment? When she arrived at the kitchen, Loretta found her parents and step-sister Bella already seated at the table, eating breakfast. The atmosphere was tense, and Loretta could feel the weight of their expectations. "Good morning," James said, his voice gruff. "We've got a meeting with the school's admissions office today to finalize your enrollment. Be ready to leave in an hour." Loretta nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. She knew that this meeting was a crucial step in her transition to the new school, and she was determined to make a good impression. As she ate her breakfast, Loretta couldn't help but think about the meeting ahead. What would the admissions office be like? Would they be friendly and welcoming, or stern and intimidating? What questions would they ask her, and how would she answer them? The hour passed quickly, and soon Loretta was following her parents out the door, heading to the meeting that would change her life forever. As they walked to the car, Loretta felt a sense of nervous energy building up inside her. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down, reminding herself that she was capable and strong. When they arrived at the school, Loretta's parents led her to the admissions office, a sleek and modern building with a professional atmosphere. They were greeted by a friendly receptionist who showed them to the meeting room. The meeting room was a small, formal space with a large wooden table and several chairs. Loretta's parents sat down, and she followed suit, trying to look confident and composed. The admissions officer, a middle-aged woman with a warm smile, entered the room and introduced herself. "Welcome, Loretta. I'm Ms. Thompson, the admissions officer. I'll be guiding you through the enrollment process today." Loretta smiled and shook Ms. Thompson's hand, feeling a sense of relief at the warm welcome. "Thank you, Ms. Thompson. I'm excited to be here." Ms. Thompson began the meeting by going over the school's policies and procedures, explaining the academic expectations and the support systems in place for students. Loretta listened attentively, taking mental notes and asking questions when she wasn't sure about something. As the meeting progressed, Loretta began to feel more at ease. Ms. Thompson was kind and knowledgeable, and she seemed genuinely interested in helping Loretta succeed. Loretta's parents were also present, but they seemed more interested in discussing the school's reputation and academic rigor than in supporting Loretta's emotional well-being. When the meeting finally came to a close, Loretta felt a sense of accomplishment. She had learned a lot about the school and its expectations, and she was determined to make the most of this opportunity. As they left the meeting room, Loretta's parents turned to her with expectant faces. "So, what do you think?" James asked, his voice gruff. Loretta took a deep breath and smiled. "I think it's going to be a challenge," she said, "but I'm ready to work hard and make the most of this opportunity." James nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Good. We expect great things from you, Loretta." Loretta felt a surge of determination. She was going to prove her parents wrong, and she was going to succeed in this new school. No matter what it took. ………………………………………………… Alex was done with his registration and headed for the meeting room when he brushed Loretta slightly. Without saying a word, he continued walking. Loretta held him by the shirt and tried making him turn but the gallant Alex stood still. After some seconds, Alex turned, his eye piercing into Loretta’s soul. Justina, who recognized Alex immediately, threw herself on the floor, bowing down to him. "Oh, great and powerful Alex, please forgive us for our insignificance," she said, her voice dripping with sycophancy. Loretta's eyes widened in shock and disgust. What was her mother doing? She looked at Alex, expecting him to be embarrassed or uncomfortable, but instead, he seemed to be enjoying the attention. "Ah, Mrs. James, please get up," Alex said, his voice smooth and confident. "I'm just a humble student, after all." Loretta's parents exchanged a shocked glance. Her father's eyes widened in surprise, and her mother's face turned pale. "A student?" her father repeated, his voice barely above a whisper. "But...but you're..." Alex chuckled, a low, smooth sound. "Yes, I know what you're thinking. It's not every day you meet a billionaire who's also a student, is it?" Loretta's eyes widened in shock. A billionaire? She had no idea. She looked at Alex with newfound curiosity, taking in his tailored clothes and confident demeanor. Loretta's mother slowly got up, composing herself, her face regaining its obsequious smile. "Of course, great Alex. We didn't know you were a student here. We'll make sure to...ah...support you in any way we can." Alex nodded graciously, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Thank you, Mrs. James. I appreciate your enthusiasm." Loretta felt a surge of anger and embarrassment. How could her mother act so subserviently? She looked at Alex, who seemed to be enjoying the exchange. "Who is this guy?" Loretta asked her mother, trying to keep her voice low. Her mother shot her a warning glance. "You'll learn soon enough. Just remember, he's someone very important." As they left the meeting room, Loretta's father leaned in close to her. "Remember, Loretta, you need to be careful around him. He's not someone to be trifled with." Loretta nodded, her mind racing with questions. What did her father mean? And what was Alex's true agenda? Loretta felt disgusted at her mother's behavior. How could she fawn over someone just because of their wealth and influence? Loretta raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. Who was this Alex, and why did her parents seem so intimidated by him? In the meeting room, a hush fell over the attendees as the ruthless billionaire, Alex, walked in. Soft gasps and whispers spread like wildfire, with some people exchanging nervous glances. "Is that really him?" someone whispered. "I've heard he's merciless in business," another person murmured. As the soft gossip spread through the meeting room, the board members exchanged nervous glances, their faces pale and worried. One of them, a middle-aged woman with a stern expression, spoke up. "Mr. Alex, we're...ah...honored to have you join our school. However, we do have some concerns about...your reputation." Alex leaned back in his chair, a hint of mirth dancing in his eyes. "My reputation?" he repeated, his voice low and smooth. "I'm sure you're referring to my...assertive business tactics." The board members nodded, their faces tense. "Yes, well, we're not sure if that's the kind of... influence we want to bring into our school." Alex smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I assure you, I'm a quick learner and a team player. I'm eager to learn and contribute to the school community." The board members looked uncertain, but Alex's charm and confidence seemed to be winning them over. The board members exchanged hesitant glances, seemingly unsure of how to respond to Alex's assertive tone. One of them, a bespectacled man with a nervous smile, spoke up. "Ah, Mr. Alex, perhaps it would be better if you came back tomorrow. We could, uh, prepare the necessary paperwork and-" Alex cut him off, his voice firm and commanding. "I'm starting today. Who will show me the way to my class?" The board members looked at each other, seemingly intimidated by Alex's assertiveness. One of them, a young woman, hesitantly raised her hand. "I-I can show you to your class, Mr. Alex." Alex nodded curtly, his eyes expectant. "Very well. Lead the way." The young woman stood up, looking a bit flustered, and gestured for Alex to follow her. "This way, Mr. Alex." As they left the meeting room, the board members watched them go, their faces a mixture of concern and curiosity. What would Alex's presence mean for the school? As Alex entered the classroom, the students' eyes widened in surprise, and whispers began to circulate. "Isn't that...?", someone started to say, before being hushed by others. One student, a tall, athletic-looking boy, spoke up, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. "Isn't that Alex, the ruthless billionaire?" The classroom fell silent, with all eyes on Alex. The teacher, a middle-aged woman with a warm smile, tried to break the tension. "Welcome, everyone. Let's get started on today's lesson." But the students were too distracted, their minds racing with questions. What was a billionaire doing in their class? Would he be a difficult person to get along with? And what did he mean by enrolling in their school? Alex, seemingly unfazed by the attention, took his seat, his eyes scanning the room with a hint of curiosity. The student who had shown him to the class, nervously smiled and took a seat next to him. As the lesson began, the students couldn't help but sneak glances at Alex, wondering what his presence would mean for their class dynamics. Frank Stone leaned back in his chair, his expression indifferent as he gazed at Alex. As the heir to a wealthy family, he was no stranger to the privileges and expectations that came with wealth. The arrival of another billionaire in class didn't particularly faze him. In fact, Frank seemed almost bored by the commotion, his eyes drifting around the room with a hint of disinterest. He had seen it all before, and the novelty of wealth and power had worn off for him. As the lesson continued, Frank's attention wandered, and he began to scribble notes on a pad, his mind elsewhere. He seemed more focused on his own thoughts than on the drama unfolding around Alex. Little did Frank know, his life was about to intersect with Alex's in ways he never could have imagined. As Loretta walked into the classroom, the students' eyes widened in surprise, and whispers began to circulate. "Who is she?" someone whispered. The teacher, trying to composed herself, introduced Loretta to the class. "Everyone, this is Loretta Worthington. She's joining our class." The students looked at Loretta with a mixture of curiosity and disdain, their expressions seeming to say, "What's a girl like her doing here?" Loretta felt a surge of embarr assment and self-consciousness. Just as she was about to take her seat, her eyes met Alex's intense gaze. He was staring at her with a piercing look, his eyes seeming to bore into her very soul. Loretta felt a shiver run down her spine as she tried to hold his gaze, wondering what she had done to deserve such scrutiny. The air in the classroom seemed to thicken, and the students' whispers died down, as if sensing the tension between Loretta and Alex. Frank Stone, still scribbling notes, looked up, his eyes flicking between Loretta and Alex with mild interest.
