3 Zoe shifted her phone so she could balance it between her shoulder and ear while she bent down and looked under the bed. Why did Monday mornings always have to start with a missing boot? “I still think you should have gone to the diner for breakfast yesterday morning,” Ruby said through the speaker. “It’s always too crowded on Sundays,” Zoe said, standing up. Sam, who was both the mayor and her boss, had called the night before and told her she would have an important meeting that morning, but hadn’t told her with whom or what it concerned.
