11 Zoe sped along the deserted highway. There wasn’t much between Amor and the next town. She glanced in the rearview mirror at Stephen, who was sitting in the back seat, his leg propped up beside him. His lips formed a tight line, like he was trying to keep the pain from escaping. “Have you ever broken a bone before?” she asked, trying to make conversation. Hopefully that would take his mind off how much it hurt. She had broken her arm once, and her friends got her singing at the top of her lungs to help keep her distracted. The nurses and doctors in the ER hadn’t appreciated it very much, but it had helped Zoe. “Nope,” he said, his voice strained. “As a kid, I wasn’t what you would call adventurous.” “Really?
