CHAPTER 10

VALERIE'S POV

I raised an eyebrow, a cold smile spreading across my face. "Just a friend? You're defending her? Maybe you should go find her then ."

"Valerie okay fine. can she at least stay, I promise never to interfere with her life again. It's just you" he said desperately. I stared at him for a moment, the scene was attracting so many attention. This is exactly what I wanted for that b***h to know her place.

"Really!" I let out a small, triumphant smile. "Fine, Adrian. I'll forgive you...this time. But you better make it up to me." I leaned in, my voice softening. "Meet me at the usual spot after school."

Adrian nodded, relief washing over his face. "I'll be there, Val. I promise." I smiled, feeling like I'd won this round.

Just as I was about to make my move, I saw Kai walk into the cafeteria with a friend. I smiled, my eyes locking onto hers for a brief moment. Adrian followed my gaze and tensed, but I was already moving.

I pulled him into a kiss, my arms wrapping around his neck. The room faded into the background as I made sure Kai got a good view. When I finally pulled back, Adrian looked dazed.

"Got your attention, didn't I?" I whispered, smiling sweetly.

I kept my arm around Adrian's waist, pulling him close as I scanned the room. Kai's eyes met mine, and for a split second, I saw something there - surprise, but not hurt? But still I am glad she saw it

I smirked, turning back to Adrian. "Let's get out of here," I whispered, loud enough for Kai to hear. Adrian nodded, still looking a bit stunned from the kiss.

As we walked out, I caught Kai's eye again. This time, I mated the look with a smug smile. Game on.

KAI'S POV

As I walked into the cafeteria with a class I noticed a scene. I was surprised to see Adrian and his clingy girlfriend. For some reason she stared right at me like she was expecting a reaction from me when she kissed Adrian. I don't even know what her problem is, but she is really getting on my nerves. For heaven sake I don't like Adrian that way, but her jealous mind just kept sending negative signals to her brain.

I don't really cared about what they do together. I've got a lot on my mind to think of. By the way I'm too crazy about Edward to think someone else.

I rolled my eyes, focusing on my friend, Nathan, as we grabbed our food. "Dramatic much?" I whispered, nodding towards Valerie and Adrian's exit. Nathan followed my gaze and snorted.

"Girl's got a problem, and it's not you." I chuckled, shrugging. "Like I care. I've got bigger things to worry about...like Edward's cute smile." Nathan grinned, and we dropped the topic, diving into our lunch and gossip about the weekend's plans.

Nathan leaned in, a mischievous glinkle in his eye. "Speaking of Edward, how's things going with him? You guys getting serious?"

I blushed, trying to play it cool. "Nah, we're just vibing. No big deal." Nathan raised an eyebrow, not buying it.

"Liiike...you're totally crushing on him." I laughed, nudging him.

"Shut up, Nate."We kept chatting, and I managed to steer the conversation away from Valerie and Adrian. But Nathan's words lingered - was I really that obvious about Edward?

Just as Nathan and I were getting into our gossip, the cafeteria doors swung open, and Edward walked in - with a single red rose in his hand, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on me. The room slowed down, and I felt my heart do a flip.

Edward smiled, making his way towards me, the rose held out like a sweet offering. "Hey," he said, his voice low and smooth, as he handed me the flower.

The cafeteria erupted into awws and whispers, but I was stuck on Edward's face. "Thanks," I murmured, taking the rose, trying to play it cool.

Edward's smile deepened, his eyes locked on mine. "I was thinking, since you like roses, maybe you'd like to go out with me sometime? Like, on a date?"

The cafeteria went wild, people cheering and whistling. I felt my cheeks heat up, but I couldn't help the grin spreading across my face. "I'd love to," I said, trying to sound casual.

Edward's face lit up, and he pulled out a small card from his pocket. "Great, I'll pick you up at 7 on Saturday. Wear something nice."

He turned to leave, but not before Nathan shouted, "Kai's got a date!" The whole cafeteria laughed, and I buried my face in the rose, grinning like crazy.

"shut up Nathan you asshole" I said trying so hard to stop the grin threatening to spread out on my face.

"Aww Kai you are so cute when you blush" Nathan teased. I shot Nathan a mock-glare, laughing despite myself.

"Shut it, Nate," I muttered, still hiding behind the rose. Edward chuckled and leaned in, whispering

"See you Saturday" before heading off to class. The cafeteria started to settle down, but Nathan was still grinning at me.

"Cute doesn't even cover it, Kai's got a bffl " he joked. I rolled my eyes, laughing.

"Bffl? What's that even mean?"

Nathan grinned. "Best Friend For Life - now spill, what's the plan for the date?" I shook my head, laughing.

"You and your abbreviations, Nate. And, um, no plan yet - Edward just asked me like 5 seconds ago!"

Nathan's eyes sparkled. "Okay, okay, let's brainstorm! Dinner? Movie? Picnic?"

I hesitated, thinking. "Hmm... maybe dinner? I love trying new restaurants."

Nathan nodded, already typing away on his phone. "Done. I'll scout some places. And tell him to bring his A-game."

I laughed, rolling my eyes. "Nate, don't scare him off!"

Nathan grinned. "Too late, I'm on it." Nathan is really too much. This first time we met I thought he was the snobbish type but I was wrong. We have a lot in common, that made us hit it so easily.

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Yeah, that's Nate for you. But I'm glad I got to see the real him."

I paused, reflecting on how Nathan's actually super supportive and caring once you get past the jokes. "We bonded over music, I think. And now he's like a brother or something."

Nathan looked up, catching my drift. "Aww, you love me, Kai ." Wait did I say that out loud?.

I threw a napkin at him. "Shut up, asshole."We both laughed.

" You know I really don't mind, I'm so handsome that girls fall for me at first sight. I can't help it "

Nathan said as he dodged the napkin, grinning. I rolled my eyes, laughing.

"Ugh, save it, Nate. We know you're full of it," I said, chuckling. Nathan winked.

"Hey, confidence is key, babe. If I wasn't so humble, I'd say I'm the catch of the century." I groaned, throwing another napkin.

Nathan laughed, catching the napkin and pretending to use it as a prop. "Okay, okay, I'll stop. For now."

He leaned in, a mock-serious look on his face. "But seriously, Kai, you gotta admit - I'm the best wingman you got. Helping you land Edward and all."

I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so now you're taking credit for it?"

Nathan nodded, unapologetic. "Hey, someone's gotta take care of you, girl." I shook my head, laughing.

"Alright, alright, I got it. You're the best wingman ever."

We tossed our trash and headed out of the cafeteria, still chatting about the date. As we walked into the hallway, Nathan nudged me.

"Text me the deets later, 'kay?"

I nodded, grinning. "Will do, Nate."

We parted ways, and I couldn't help but feel a little excited for Saturday.

ADRIAN'S POV

I spent the whole day with Valerie, for some reason She was being so extra clingy. I know she was jealous with Kai around but isn't she being extra. I mean have I ever make her feel like I was going to betray or cheat on her.?

I sighed internally, trying to keep a calm face as Valerie linked her arm with mine in class. We've been together for a while, and she's usually cool, but today she's been acting like I'm about to disappear.

I glanced at her, trying to gauge what's going on. "Hey, you okay? You're being kinda... intense," I said low, hoping she'd get the hint.

Valerie looked up at me, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I'm fine." she answered
