Chapter Eleven Dale had dropped her at her apartment after her session with Charlie. A prickly silence in the car all the way home, she was actually relieved when he left her on the sidewalk with just the merest mention of his further intentions. “I’ll pick you up later this evening,” he said. “How late?” she asked. Though her mind raced with a dozen questions she wanted answered, she wouldn’t ask a thing, not until Dale was ready to talk, and obviously he wasn’t then. “How about when I get here,” he said, his severe look almost threatening her to say more. “You go up to your apartment now, I’ll wait for you at the window.” It was an arrangement they’d used before, when he didn’t have time to see her to her door himself. He never drove away without making certain she was safely inside
