THE NEXT MORNING, I drove Addison to school, with stern instruction to tell me if anything happened when I came to get him.
He nodded, bounding off. I caught an Ellie, baby! and a flash of black hair.
God, my son is smooth.
He got married and these other kids are still scared of girls.
I chuckle and drive off.
I have work to do.
"You will stop airing this s**t. Immediately." I glare at the phone, putting a pause to my typing.
The sniveling snake on the end chuckles, his nonplussed attitude implying my lack of power.
He must not know about me. Thats okay though! That's okay. He's gonna learn.
"I am amusing to you, Whitley?"
What kinda name is Whitley?
Worse than Finly.
"No, no. I just find it...interesting how you seem so...involved whereas before, you couldn't care less."
I close me eyes.
He's right in one thing.
I didn't show that I cared, so how would they know?
"My motives are none of your concern. Your company, however is. Who you does your taxes Whit?"
"I do," he states in a posh voice.
"Well, I'll make a deal. I won't call attention to you...inaccurate tax forms, and you will shut your mouth about my woman and child."
"You-you don't have access to my-"
"Give a man a million dollars and he'll a work a miracle. Get it done."
I hang up. It's fairly easy to
stop the media. It's social media, that's hard to get rid off.
The internet is a cesspool of degenerates with no filter, simply because they hide behind a screen.
I'm tempted to ask Sloan if she and Leon can shut down the internet for a while, but I doubt she'll agree.
She'll tell me, Man the f**k up, Sebastian the crab. Use those pinchers,"
Then she'd play hit me, and it would really hurt, then Pyro would kick me shin because, what Sloan does, Penny does. And then Josh will hit me wherever he can reach because whatever Penny does, Josh does.
Wait!
My brother and sister haven't been met Addy or Layla in years.
I drive quick as I can to the hospital.
HER WHISKEY eyes snap up when I enter her room.
"Hey Peaches," I grin, laying a kiss on her forehead.
She swats me but I'm already sitting down beside her.
"What are you so cheerful about?"
"When are you getting out, Peaches? You told me it's just a minor thing. You've been in here for three days."
My grin slides off my face when I process what I'm saying.
"It's... just an old injury acting up, it's nothing," she says vaguely.
"Nothing nothing? Or nothing you're gonna tell me?"
She looks away from me. I hate it when she does that.
"Give me your eyes Peaches, I need to ask you something."
She rolls her eyes, turning to me.
"Better your highness?"
I know she's being sarcastic, still it is better. I love her eyes. They're so warm, and...calming, I guess.
I love when she's looking into my eyes, it gives me peace. It's gets me drunk. Sometimes I think the world is in her eyes.
"Yes, actually. Look, I wanted ask if Max and Sloan and the kids could come over. I know Sloan would love to see you, and Addison doesn't even remember Max.”
She looks away again, and I fight the urge to whimper. It's like she snatching away my peace and chaos descends on my head every time.
And I figure it out.
What I want.
She would always ask me that when we were fighting.
She'd scream What do you want!
And I'd yell I don't know!
But I do.
I want peace.
I just want some peace in my life, and they do that; my son and my Peaches.
"-and now you're not listening. Ugh."
"Sorry Peaches," I grin sheepishly. "What did you say?"
"I said I won't be able to leave for a few days yet, but Addy can meet them again. They're his family too."
I nod, a frown encompassing my features.
"What's going on Laylani? Why are you in here?"
"I told you," Peace vanishes, "an old injury acting up."
"No—" I protest ready to battle for answers.
"Come here," she orders me.
I obey. What else can I do? She's the boss.
"Closer," I edge closer, confused.
She lifts up, and soothes her lips over mine, quieting my soul.
My eyes close, and I fall into her, her kisses making weak like they always do.
Her hands run up and down my chest, sneaking over my neck, her fingers running through my hair.
I moan in contentment.
Tearing her lips from mine she kisses my throat, I throw back my head, giving her access.
Mark me, I want to say, I'm yours, but I can hardly think.
Peaches and Mischief suffocates me in the best way, her hands are on me, her lips are on me.
Everything is a pleasure filled haze.
She pulls away, making me nearly fall forward. More, I want more.
"Go home, Addison will be out of school soon. You surprise him."
I nod, the fog not cleared yet.
With one more fog strengthening kiss, I'm headed home with a warm feeling.
SHE ALWAYS DOES this. I grit my teeth, enraged at her for playing dirty, and at myself for not having self control.
When we were together, whenever she didn't want answer a question or talk about something, she'd distract me with s*x, and I would forget about until at least the next week.
It's no exaggeration to say her kisses are poison, and her p***y is a drug.
I can't function when she does that and she knows it.
God, that sly snake of a woman...
I'll make her pay.
I won't forget this.
"Max?"
The line crackles.
"Is that...is that you Dweeb?" I roll my eyes, at his dramatics.
"I haven't heard from you since the drought in '68!" He feigns an old mans voice.
"Shut up, Maximus Killian!"
I can practically see his glare through the line.
"I did not change my name," he seethes, "Sloan simply annexed hers,"
I grin. "Whatever you say Max Killian."
"Why you little!"
I look at the screen.
"13 seconds. New record."
"Yay for you," he deadpanned. "Why are calling me for the first time in months. And why have been on the news more than me?"
"You haven't heard?"
"What?"
"The news for the last five or so years?"
"Oh no, Sloan banned TV after Pyro tried teleport Josh into it to dance with that some princess."
No wonder...
"Are you and the family in New York?"
"Actually, yeah. Sloan had a business deal out here. Why? Miss me?"
"No," I rolled my eyes. Yes. "I want to reintroduce you to some very important people you'll kill you for keeping from you."
"Y'know what? I'm not even gonna ask any questions. I'll just head to-"
"I'm not at my house. The people I want to meet, I'm at there house. I send you address. See if you can jet here before..."
My son comes home.
"No," I hear him arguing faintly, "Baby girl, you can't randomly sedate people we've talked about this-"
I hung up, sending the address.
He'll get here.
MAX, SLOANE, PENNY and Josh sit down on the couch, in awe of the decorations.
"Since when do you have colors on your walls?" Max snorted.
"These aren't my walls," I shot back.
I glance at the clock.
2:15.
"s**t!"
I'm late. s**t.
Shït f**k Layla's gonna kill me.
Scrambling to get my keys I ignore my clueless family, running out the door with I'll be back.
Thankfully, Addie's school is only ten minutes away. By car.
I jet there, Nascar style.
My foot is barely off the has when I hop out, just in time for the last bell.
Made it.
Kids stream out if the school like locusts, and I have a hard time stopping my kid.
Until I catch sight of a black haired girl kissing my poor dumb son, and ordering him to do something.
He bumbles away from her, getting in the car in a daze.
"How's the family?" I ask nonchalantly, pulling out of the cursed carpool lane illegally.
"We're fine."
"Hey, I got something for you waiting at home."
He glances up. "What is it?"
I just grin. "You'll see."
Once we pull in the driveway, I see that Addison immediately notices the SUV my brother ostentatiously parked.
He seems curious, but says nothing.
I open the door, ushering him in.
"Where the surprise, Dad?"
I assume he used Dad because he wants the surprise.
"They're right here," I point to the three immobile souls.
"Addison, meet your uncle Max, your aunt Sloan and your cousins Penelope and Jousha.”
They all blink at each other for a while.
"Nice to see you again Addison," Max smiles. "Sebastian can I speak with you?"
"Are you gonna hit me?"
