Chapter 8

"By the goddess, this should not be happening." Darius gazed at the wound in disgust and anger. "Why hasn't this healed by now?" It was a question asked to himself, but his gaze towards my directions seemed otherwise. "Why do I still bleed?" He bellowed, striking the ground with his fist, his eyes flashing a shade of gold. I nearly jumped out of my skin, backing away from him and knocking my food out of the stone plate to the ground. Realization slowly took over him and his eyes returned to their calm grey color. "I apologize," he said, his voice almost a silent whisper. "That fury was not meant for you." He placed a large piece of meat to my stone plate. "It was meant for the moon goddess." His voice was gruff. A smile appeared on my face, a response to his apology. Then it vanished as my gaze returned to his wound. If nothing was done quickly about it, he would bleed out. Guilt struck me at that moment. The reason he was in such state was because of me. In heading out to get my breakfast, he ran into such misfortune. My hands closed into tight fists. I had to make it right. I picked up a stick and wrote on the soil. 'Does the White Mort grow around these woods?' "White Mort?" he uttered. "Yes, I came across them about twenty feet due north of this cave by the base of one of the almond trees." A ray of hope lit within me and I smiled, writing on the soil once again. 'That should suffice.' "Do you think it would heal this wound as quickly as possible?" A frown portrayed the doubt on his face. Nodding with a wider smile, I rose and strode past him when he took hold of my arm in a soft but firm grip. "Even if there aren't people around," He avoided my gaze. "It is still required that you cover yourself." My gaze lowered to my bare form and my cheeks stung with a heat. I covered my chest with one arm and the center between my legs with a palm. Darius made a small grunt, taking off his sleeveless coat and putting it on me. The warmth of the clothing brought a momentary comfort to my spirit. "Remember," he said. "North of this cave." I nodded and then departed. As he stated, I found the plants by the base of an almond tree far north of the cave. Thankful to the moon goddess that the heavy rainfall had not uprooted or hindered their growth, I plucked a few and headed back to the cave. Darius was pacing about the cave when I reached , an action I had begun to be accustomed to and found yet amusing at the same time. He stopped when he saw me, curiosity etched on his face. "Did you find them?" I nodded, presenting them to him. "Thank the moon goddess," he exhaled. I pointed to a spot for him to sit and he obliged. I washed the wound gently with water from the jar until it became a slight scratch. Putting the plants to the ground and sprinkling some water on them, I ground them to a white paste. Then I smeared them on the wound. He flinched a bit and made a grunt. My hands stopped and I stretched around to glance at him. "I am alright," he answered the question my eyes asked. "Please carry on." A smile lighted my face and I resumed. There was something that was so unique in his tone when he was polite. Be it an apology or a plea. It sometimes made me forget he was an Alpha wolf. Just then, Darius winced as the wound made a sizzling sound. And then it swiftly faded into a scar. He touched the spot and a gasp departed his lips. "It is gone." He turned to look at me. "It is completely healed. How did you do it? How?" I smiled and then shrugged. Years ago in my childhood back in the Ravenstone pack, I had gone playing in the fields by myself. Guila had not minded, her only warning being that I should not let the sunset approach before I came back. There was no one to play with. No child my age wanted to. But I did not care. I had gone tumbling down the fields when I grazed my ankle against a stone, drawing blood. Curiosity overtook pain when I spotted them by the edge of a stream. White Foil. And then I had been compelled by the voice of my wolf. It was drawn to the scent. And I plucked one of the plant to smear over my wound. My wound healed rapidly and without the aid of my wolf. It was then I realized. My dainty hands possessed the gift of healing. The White Foil served as a small aid . I had gone back home and told not a soul that day, lest they thought I was seeking for attention. Darius reached behind and touched his shoulder, his eyes still wide with awe. Then his gaze strayed to me and he uttered in a soft tone. "Thank you." Before I could nod my appreciation, he suddenly winced and shut his eyes tight. Then a sharp groan of pain escaped his lips. A sudden rush of pain filled my head and I shut my eyes like he did. The pain slithered to my chest and I clutched it. It was brief and then it stopped. When I opened my eyes, Darius did. A golden glow surrounded his and a low growl rumbled in his throat. And then i heard a voice within me. A faint familiar voice that belonged to my wolf. And it uttered one word. "Mate." My eyes widened in astonishment. And so did Darius's. He exhaled loudly and his gaze lowered to my lips. "She has chosen," he whispered. Any utterance I tried to make, forgetting once again about my inability to speak, was silenced by his lips over mine.
