Robert searches for Aliana

1048 Words
Robert's POV "Any news about her?" I asked Lola as she walked over to me in a haste. "No, she's not here. I've search every nook and cranny of New York City but she's not here. It's like she's disappeared" Lola replied with an uninterested tone. I wasn't interested in Aliana's well being either,I just wanted to be sure Lola and I were safe after beaten her mercilessly. Who knows? She might file a report with the police. She was just so stupid, stupid enough to fund my whole life and career. I wasn't expecting her to find out about Lola and I like that. I had other plans that could help secure my future but now, everything was screwed. "What do we do now,Robert?" Lola's voice jolted me out of my thoughts. She pulled me into her embrace and fiddled with my ear. She caught my eyes but I wasn't in the mood at the moment. All I wanted was a way to sort myself out. I pulled out of my embrace and sat on a sofa. We haven't left the hotel room since Aliana left "Could she have gone back to California?" I muttered and drank the glass of water on the table to calm my nerves. "Maybe. I could just check up on her since I'm quite familiar with her co workers" Lola suggested "That's a good idea but what if they start to suspect us?" I expressed my fear. Situations like this can be very unpredictable. If truly Aliana was in California, things could get messy. "They won't. We came here with the excuse of a business trip, didn't we?" Lola said with a knowing smile and came to sit right next to me. "We'll just tell them her phone's been switched off and hasn't been reachable" "Alright then. Let go back to California as early as possible" I declared and immediately,Lola began to pack up. We spend the night at the hotel and then we were on our way to the airport the following day since we already booked our ticket overnight. Within few hours,we landed at Los Angeles international airport and boarded a cab to Lola's house just as she'd suggested. "So, what's the plan?" Lola asked after we've settled down a bit. She placed her curly black hair dangling on her face at the back of her ears and sat down cross legged. It was clear to everybody what kind of two-faced person she was but Aliana was just blind to see it which led to her fall. "We head to the the restaurant where she works" I replied "Okay" We stepped out of the house drove out to one of the finest restaurant in California. "Let's go in together" I said and instantly,we alighted from the car and strutted right into the building. Many of the workers recognized us as Aliana's acquaintance and greeted us happily. We were about to reach her office when we met a lady Lola recognized quite well "Welcome, Miss. Wright. I haven't seen you in a long time" The young woman greeted with much enthusiasm and stretched forthe her hands for a handshake. "You're right,Sofia. It's been a while. My business takes most of my time now" Lola replied. She forced herself to accept the lady's hand and gave a fake smile. I noticed the lady's gaze on me and my heart skipped a beat, eager to hear what she had to say. "You're Miss. Aliana's fiance. Am I correct? She's said so much about you. I even got an invitation to your wedding which is in few days" the lady blabbered on and on, oblivious to the deathly look on Lola's face. I could do nothing but laugh pretentiously to ease the tension. "So where is she?" Lola shut the woman up and questioned her with a rude tone. The lady was stunned for a moment "Aliana? You're her best friend, shouldn't you know where she is?" The lady asked And just had we had revised,Lola poured out all the answers and added more elaboration which help us convince the maid who seemed displeased. "Well, she isn't here right now" Sofia revealed with reluctance. She was about to leave when Lola pulled her back. "Please,Sofia tell us when was the last time you set your eyes on her. The fact that her phone has been switched off is making us worried please" she pleaded and held the lady's hands. "Well, she was looking at something on her phone last night that got her agitated. She didn't look too good and when I asked her what the problem was,she packed her things and ran out of the restaurant." Sofia explained "And she hasn't called back?" Lola probed further "No,she hasn't and we haven't been able to reach her either. Even the restaurant is having some issues due to her absence. Have you check her house?" Sofia asked. "That's right!" I gasped in surprise. We should have gone there first. Maybe, she was trying to nurse her injuries before resuming work. "What's it?" Lola raised an eyebrow, eyeing me suspiciously. "Erm... Thanks Sofia. Lola,we need to leave" I declared and dragged her arms out of the restaurant. "Let us know when you've managed to reach out to her" I heard the lady shout from her distance buy I just waved my hands dismissively. We got into the car and I started the ride. Aliana's house was a bit far from the restaurant but we managed to get there. We walked into the well furnished apartment since I had a spare key and began our search. "That b***h! She thinks because she's rich then she can have everything to herself" I heard Lola curse out of jealousy. It was the first time she was blaming her best friend for having a better life. We searched around the big house but she wasn't in so we settled on the couch and sighed on frustration. I ransacked my brain for ideas until an exciting one popped up in my head. "Lola,I have an idea. Since we have no idea of where she is,we could just take everything she has for ourselves. We have her phone and her credit card and I'm sure the house documents is in this house. Let's take everything" I declared.
