Chapter 3 - Sneaking Out

679 Words
The cool night breeze brushed against Sophia's face as she stepped beyond the towering gates of the Hart mansion. She paused for a moment and looked back. The mansion glowed with hundreds of lights, looking more like a royal palace than a home. Inside, wealthy guests laughed over glasses of champagne, unaware that the birthday girl had disappeared. Sophia smiled. "I actually did it," she whispered to herself. Her heart raced with excitement and fear. This was the first time she had ever been outside alone without a chauffeur, a bodyguard, or her parents watching her every move. She quickly removed her sparkling diamond earrings and slipped them into her purse. Then she took off her silver high heels and changed into a pair of white sneakers she had hidden earlier behind a bush near the side gate. Over her elegant gown, she pulled on a black hoodie to avoid attracting attention. For the first time, she looked less like a billionaire's daughter and more like an ordinary young woman. She walked toward the nearest bus stop, amazed by everything around her. Children chased one another along the sidewalk. Street vendors sold roasted corn, grilled meat, and colorful drinks. Young couples laughed as they shared ice cream. Music echoed from nearby shops, filling the air with life. Sophia couldn't stop smiling. "So this is what I've been missing." Just then, her phone buzzed. Lily: "Where are you? Everyone's waiting!" Sophia replied quickly. "I'm on my way." She had no idea how to get to Blue Wave Beach, so she decided to ask for directions. An elderly woman sitting on a bench smiled kindly at her. "Excuse me, ma'am," Sophia said politely. "Could you tell me how to get to Blue Wave Beach?" The woman pointed toward a bus pulling into the stop. "Take that bus. It'll drop you just a few minutes from the beach." Sophia thanked her and climbed aboard. She had never ridden a public bus before. She sat quietly by the window, watching the city rush past. The laughter, the traffic, the bright lights—it all felt magical. Meanwhile, back at the Hart mansion... Richard Hart's phone rang. He answered immediately. "What is it?" "Sir," the security guard said nervously, "Miss Sophia has left the estate." Richard's face turned pale. "What did you say?" "We tried to find her, but she's gone." Richard slammed his glass onto the table, shattering it. "Lock every gate! Search the city! Find my daughter!" The guests fell silent as dozens of security officers rushed from the mansion. Eleanor covered her mouth in shock. "Richard... what if she's in danger?" Richard clenched his fists. "Nothing will happen to her." His voice grew cold. "Bring her home... no matter what it takes." Back on the bus, Sophia leaned her head against the window, completely unaware that half her father's security team was searching for her. A little girl sitting across from her smiled. "You're pretty." Sophia laughed softly. "Thank you." "It's your birthday, isn't it?" Sophia looked surprised. "How did you know?" "You still have a birthday ribbon on your wrist." Sophia looked down and smiled. "You're right." The little girl reached into her pocket and handed Sophia a small wrapped candy. "Happy Birthday." Sophia's eyes filled with tears. It was the simplest birthday gift she had ever received. Yet somehow... It meant more than all the diamonds waiting for her at home. As the bus pulled to a stop near Blue Wave Beach, loud music drifted through the night air. Colorful lights flashed across the sand. People danced, laughed, and celebrated under the stars. Sophia stepped off the bus with a smile that reached her eyes. Tonight was only beginning. But hidden among the crowd, a man wearing a black cap quietly lowered his phone after taking a picture of her. He dialed a number. "I've found Miss Hart." A cold voice answered from the other end. "Don't lose sight of her." Sophia had no idea... She wasn't just being searched for. She was being watched. End of Chapter 3
