The sky outside Chand's apartment was a canvas of deep blues and purples, the city lights twinkling like distant stars. He sat by the window, his phone in hand, anticipation bubbling within him. It had been weeks of late-night calls and shared secrets, and the need to see Shenna in person had grown stronger with each passing day. He dialed her number, his heart racing as he waited for her to pick up.
“Hi, Chand!” Shenna’s voice came through, warm and cheerful. The sound of it always brought a smile to his face, and tonight was no exception.
“Hi, Shenna. How was your day?” Chand asked, leaning back in his chair, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice for a bit longer.
“It was good, just the usual busy day at work. How about you?” she replied, the familiar rhythm of their conversation bringing a sense of comfort and connection.
“Pretty much the same. But, I’ve been thinking a lot today,” Chand said, his tone growing more serious. “About us.”
Shenna’s breath caught slightly, and there was a pause on the other end of the line. “What about us, Chand?” she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of anxiety.
Chand took a deep breath, his mind racing with thoughts and emotions. “I need to see you, Shenna,” he said finally, his voice earnest and filled with longing. “I want to meet you in person, to look into your eyes and see your smile in real life. How about I come to the Philippines?”
The silence on the other end was palpable, filled with a mix of surprise and joy. When Shenna spoke again, her voice was soft but resolute. “I’d love that, Chand. Let’s make it happen.”
Relief washed over Chand, and he couldn’t help but smile. “Really? You mean it?”
“Of course, I do,” Shenna replied, her voice brightening. “I’ve been thinking the same thing. It feels like the right time for us to meet. We’ve shared so much already, and I want to take this next step with you.”
"Shenna, I've been thinking," he began, a hint of excitement in his voice. "If I were to visit the Philippines, where should we go? What places would you like to show me?"
Shenna's eyes lit up at the question, her excitement palpable. "Oh, there are so many beautiful places in the Philippines! Where do I even start?" She paused, her mind racing through the countless destinations she wanted to share with Chand.
"Well, first," she said, her voice filled with enthusiasm, "I think you would love Palawan. It's often called the last frontier of the Philippines because of its pristine beaches and incredible landscapes. We could visit El Nido, with its stunning limestone cliffs and crystal-clear waters. The lagoons there are magical, and we could go island hopping, snorkeling, and even explore hidden beaches."
Chand's eyes widened with interest. "That sounds amazing, Shenna. I've seen pictures of El Nido, and it looks like paradise. I can't wait to experience it in person."
Shenna smiled, pleased by his reaction. "And then there's Coron," she continued. "It's known for its World War II shipwrecks that have become incredible dive sites. Even if you're not into diving, the lakes and hot springs are fantastic. Kayangan Lake, in particular, is one of the clearest lakes in Asia. The view from the top of the hike is breathtaking."
Chand nodded eagerly. "I would love to see that. It sounds like a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation."
Shenna's excitement grew as she continued. "And of course, we have to visit the Chocolate Hills in Bohol. They're these unique geological formations that look like giant chocolate mounds during the dry season. Plus, Bohol has the Tarsier Sanctuary, where you can see the world's smallest primates. They're adorable!"
Chand chuckled. "I've heard about the tarsiers. They seem fascinating. The Chocolate Hills sound surreal. It must be incredible to see them in person."
Shenna's eyes sparkled as she spoke. "It really is. And while we're in Bohol, we can also take a river cruise on the Loboc River. The scenery is beautiful, and they serve lunch on the boat with traditional Filipino music and dance performances. It's a unique experience."
Chand leaned forward, captivated by Shenna's descriptions. "That sounds like so much fun. I'm really looking forward to trying the local food and experiencing the culture."
Shenna nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, the food! We have to go on a food trip in Cebu. It's known as the Queen City of the South and has some of the best food in the country. Lechon, which is roasted pig, is a must-try. And there's also Puso, which is rice wrapped in coconut leaves, and so many seafood dishes."
Chand's mouth watered at the thought. "I can't wait to try all of it. Filipino food sounds delicious."
Shenna's face lit up with another idea. "And Manila, the capital, has so much history and culture to offer. We could visit Intramuros, the historic walled city with Spanish-era buildings. There's also Rizal Park, named after our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. The museums there are fantastic, and you can learn so much about our history."
Chand smiled, imagining the adventures they would have. "I'm really looking forward to exploring Manila with you, Shenna. There's so much history and culture to experience."
Shenna nodded, her excitement undiminished. "And if you like nature, we could hike up to the Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao. They're often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. The terraces are over 2,000 years old and were carved into the mountains by the indigenous people. The views are spectacular, and it's a great place to learn about our indigenous cultures."
Chand's eyes widened with wonder. "That sounds incredible. The history and effort behind those terraces must be awe-inspiring."
Shenna smiled, pleased by his reaction. "It really is. And if we want a mix of adventure and relaxation, we could visit Siargao. It's known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, but even if you don't surf, there are beautiful lagoons, rock pools, and mangrove forests to explore."
Chand's mind raced with excitement, imagining the possibilities. "Shenna, all of these places sound incredible. I feel like I could spend months in the Philippines and still not see everything."
Shenna laughed, her joy infectious. "That's true. There's so much to see and do. But the best part will be experiencing it together, sharing those moments and making memories. You have to decide where you want to visit,"
Chand's heart swelled with warmth. "I can't wait for that, Shenna. I'm so excited to explore your beautiful country with you."
Chand felt a wave of happiness and excitement surge through him. “Great! I’ll start looking at flights and make arrangements. When would be a good time for you?”
Shenna considered for a moment. “Maybe in a couple of weeks? That should give us both enough time to prepare.”
“That sounds perfect,” Chand agreed. “I’ll check my schedule and make sure everything is in order on my end. I can’t wait to see you, Shenna.”
“Me neither, Chand,” Shenna said, a smile evident in her voice. “It feels like a dream, but a good one.”
They spent the next hour discussing logistics, from travel dates to where Chand would stay. Shenna offered to help him find a nice hotel close to her home, but Chand insisted on finding something on his own, wanting to take some of the burden off her shoulders.
“I want everything to be perfect,” Chand said, his determination clear. “You’ve been so wonderful, and I want to make sure our meeting goes smoothly.”
Shenna laughed softly. “You don’t have to go overboard, Chand. Just being here is enough. But I appreciate the thought.”
As the conversation continued, they delved into the details of what they would do once he arrived. Shenna excitedly described places she wanted to show him—the bustling markets, the serene beaches, and her favorite spots in the city.
“I want to show you my world,” Shenna said, her voice filled with enthusiasm. “There’s so much I want you to see and experience.”
Chand listened intently, his mind painting vivid pictures of the places she described. “I can’t wait, Shenna. It sounds amazing.”
They also talked about the practicalities—how to navigate the city, what to pack, and cultural nuances Chand should be aware of. Shenna’s guidance was invaluable, and Chand felt grateful for her insights and support.
“You’re going to love it here,” Shenna assured him. “The people, the food, the culture—it’s all so vibrant and welcoming. And I’ll be right there with you, every step of the way.”
As the night wore on, their excitement only grew. They exchanged hopes and dreams for their meeting, each word building the anticipation. The idea of finally being together, of closing the physical distance that had separated them for so long, was exhilarating.
“Chand,” Shenna said softly as their conversation began to wind down, “I’m really looking forward to this. It means a lot to me.”
“Me too, Shenna,” Chand replied, his voice filled with warmth. “This is the beginning of something special. I can feel it.”
They said their goodnights, the call ending with promises of updates and plans to finalize the details. As Chand put down his phone, he felt a sense of fulfillment and excitement unlike anything he had experienced before. The future was bright, and for the first time in a long while, he felt genuinely hopeful.
In the quiet of his apartment, Chand started to make a list of everything he needed to do to prepare for his trip. His mind buzzed with anticipation, each task a step closer to meeting Shenna. And as he drifted off to sleep, his dreams were filled with thoughts of the Philippines, of Shenna, and of the journey that lay ahead.
The days flew by, filled with anticipation and preparation. Chand worked tirelessly to ensure he could take time off for the trip, while Shenna meticulously planned their activities, eager to share her world with him.
