**Chapter 16: Farewell for Now**

1442 Words
The days had flown by, filled with laughter, exploration, and intimate conversations. Now, as Chand and Shenna stood at the bustling Manila airport, the reality of their impending separation hit them hard. The airport, usually a place of excitement and anticipation, felt heavy with the weight of their emotions. Chand held Shenna’s hand tightly as they stood near the departure gate. His flight was announced over the intercom, adding a sense of urgency to their farewell. He looked at her, his eyes reflecting a mix of sadness and determination. “I’ll miss you every day, Shenna,” he said softly, his voice carrying the depth of his feelings. Shenna’s eyes filled with tears, but she managed a brave smile. “Me too, Chand. I wish you didn’t have to go,” she whispered, her heart aching at the thought of being apart from him. Chand gently wiped away a tear that had escaped down her cheek. “This isn’t goodbye forever, Shenna. It’s just for now. We’ll see each other soon, I promise.” She nodded, trying to hold back the flood of emotions. “I know, but it’s hard. These past weeks have been the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I don’t want it to end.” He pulled her into a tight embrace, feeling her warmth and the beating of her heart against his chest. “It won’t end. We’ll keep this connection alive, no matter the distance. We’ll talk every day, video call whenever we can, and make plans to see each other as soon as possible.” Shenna clung to him, wishing she could freeze this moment in time. The thought of returning to her daily routine without him felt daunting. “I’m just afraid that the distance will be too much, that we’ll drift apart.” Chand pulled back slightly, looking into her eyes with unwavering resolve. “That won’t happen, Shenna. We’re stronger than the distance. We’ve already overcome so much. This is just another challenge we’ll face together.” His words, filled with conviction, gave Shenna the strength she needed. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “You’re right, Chand. We’ve got this. We just have to stay positive and focus on our future.” Chand smiled, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. “Exactly. And think of it this way – every day apart is one day closer to us being together again.” Shenna laughed softly, appreciating his optimism. “You always know how to make me feel better.” They stood there for a few more moments, savoring their last moments together. The final boarding call for Chand’s flight echoed through the terminal, signaling that it was time. "I guess I should go," Chand said reluctantly, not wanting to let her go. Shenna nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I’ll be counting the days until we’re together again.” Chand kissed her one last time, a lingering kiss that conveyed all the love and longing he felt. “Take care of yourself, Shenna. I’ll be in touch as soon as I land.” She smiled through her tears, her heart full of both sorrow and hope. “You too, Chand. Safe travels.” With a final squeeze of her hand, Chand picked up his bag and walked towards the gate, casting one last glance back at Shenna. She waved, her heart aching but filled with determination. As Chand disappeared from view, Shenna felt a profound sense of emptiness. But she also felt a spark of hope. They had built something beautiful together, and she knew that no amount of distance could diminish that. “Don’t worry, Shen, he will be back and I’m sure of that,” Pilar assured Shenna, her voice steady and comforting as they stood at the edge of the bustling airport terminal. Shenna wiped away the tears that had begun to fall, trying to steady herself. “I know, Pilar. It’s just so hard to see him go. These past weeks have been like a dream, and now it feels like I’m waking up to reality.” Pilar put an arm around Shenna’s shoulders, guiding her towards the exit. “Come on, let’s have some coffee before we head home. We can talk more there.” As they made their way to the airport café, Shenna felt a sense of relief. Pilar had always been her rock, someone she could rely on during tough times. They found a quiet corner in the bustling café and ordered their drinks. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, bringing a small sense of comfort to Shenna. Pilar took a sip of her coffee and looked at Shenna with a warm, understanding smile. “You know, Shen, I’ve seen how happy Chand makes you. This isn’t the end. It’s just a new chapter in your story together.” Shenna nodded, her fingers tracing the rim of her coffee cup. “I know you’re right, Pilar. It’s just that I’ve grown so used to having him around. Every morning, waking up next to him, sharing meals, exploring new places. Now it feels like there’s this huge void.” Pilar reached across the table and squeezed Shenna’s hand. “That void will be temporary. You two have something special, something that can withstand the test of time and distance. And remember, you’re not alone in this. You have Liam, your parents, and me. We’ll all be here for you.” Shenna smiled, feeling a bit lighter. “Thanks, Pilar. You always know how to make me feel better. I just need to keep reminding myself that this is just a phase. We’ll get through it.” Pilar leaned back in her chair, her eyes thoughtful. “Do you remember when we were in college, and you were so nervous about that big internship interview? You thought you weren’t going to make it, but you did. You faced that challenge head-on and came out stronger. This is just another challenge, Shen. And I know you’ll come out stronger from this too.” Shenna laughed softly, recalling the memory. “Yeah, I remember. I was a wreck that day. But you were there for me then, just like you are now.” “That’s what friends are for,” Pilar said with a wink As they finished their coffee, Shenna felt a sense of clarity. The days ahead might be challenging, but she had a solid support system and a love that could endure the distance. They paid for their drinks and headed towards the exit, the afternoon sun casting a warm glow over the airport. “Let’s take a walk before heading home,” Pilar suggested. “The fresh air will do us both good.” They strolled through the airport gardens, the vibrant flowers and greenery providing a calming backdrop. Shenna found herself talking more openly about her fears and hopes, and Pilar listened patiently, offering words of wisdom and encouragement. “I think what’s most important,” Pilar said as they paused by a small fountain, “is to keep looking forward. Make plans, set goals. Focus on the things you can control, and let the rest fall into place. You and Chand will find your way back to each other, and in the meantime, you have a life to live.” Shenna nodded, feeling more at peace. “You’re right. I need to keep moving forward, for myself and for Daniel. Chand and I will make this work, no matter what.” They continued their walk, talking and laughing, the heaviness of the morning gradually lifting. By the time they reached Shenna’s car, she felt a renewed sense of purpose. The future was uncertain, but it was also full of possibilities. “Thanks for everything, Pilar,” Shenna said, hugging her friend tightly. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.” “Anytime, Shen,” Pilar replied, hugging her back. “We’re in this together. And remember, I’m just a call away if you need anything.” As Shenna drove home, she thought about the conversation with Pilar and the reassurance it had brought her. She felt more prepared to face the days ahead, confident in her relationship with Chand and the support of her loved ones. Back at home, Shenna busied herself with unpacking and settling back into her routine, though everything felt different now. Every room seemed to echo with memories of Chand, from the living room where they had spent cozy evenings together to the kitchen where they had cooked side by side, laughing and sharing stories.
