I was breaking puddles of sweat down from the top of my head once again as I was straining to hold the bow steady after I had drawn the string right to my face.
An incident ensued thereafter as I failed to lock my elbow down securely and had the bow hitting my face instead...!
*Aaaooooooooo*
A wild beast suddenly howled in the night following by a string of curses that was simply too explicit to be written here.
I was the wild beast and I was lying flat on my back as I threw the bow to the side. My palms were wet with sweat and the bow on my left hand suddenly slipped. If only I had released the drawstring in time, the darn bow would not have speedily sprung back and rushed to my face instead...!
*Wuwuwuwu...
I was only about 30 minutes into practise when that little mishap happened as my sudden howling caused everyone to wake up and rushed to where I was sprawled.
If not for the bow and my reddened face due to the bow slapping back at me, the pioneers thought that I had slipped down after taking an evening shower without towelling myself...!
Frank quickly offered his hand to me which I gladly took as he raised me up, "That's enough for today, Your Majesty. I would give you a chest expander and a bicep curling device tomorrow. It's for you to gain some exercise and have these muscles instead."
Frank held up his biceps to me right before my face and flexed them as his twin children climbed and hung on to it gleefully. I guess I can't compare to Frank or Ben who was used to hard work such as chopping wood and lifting them to the designated location.
If only I had formal training, I guess I would not only be holding a quill or books but rather dames around my waist and arms as well...
*Ahem* better keep those thought bubbles from Heather... Haha.
I kept the 110-pound bow for now as I threw my damp clothes inside a laundry basket and went to take a shower before changing into my long nightwear.
"Dear, you shouldn't overstress yourself on those drills. Just take your time and enjoy. Besides, the enemies would not be going or coming pretty soon and I know you are Itching to hunt some game, right?"
I giggled as I went under the blankets gleefully and hugged Heather's waist even though her slightly bloated belly prevents me slightly to enjoy the embrace.
"Is it a boy or a girl or maybe twins of two boys or two girls or even a boy and a girl twins? Hahaha. Knock knock knock... Daddy's here..." I playfully ran my fingers walking up and down the belly while playfully poking it when I felt a kick from within.
"Hohoho... Daddy's little baby is getting excited or upset eh? Haha... Can't wait for you to be born into this world and join Daddy in the conquest to gather more land, eh?" I rubbed my hand this time and I could feel how smooth the belly was and Heather was pinching my nose and telling me to stop telling bad things to the baby.
"Hahaha... How could it be bad? If he's a boy or a girl, he or she would be our direct successor. I'm not fussy at all. Besides, our baby would inherit your beauty and both of our brains. Besides, we would be giving our baby the best of everything we've got...!"
It had been some time since we had discussed anything like this with each other. Maybe the thwunk I received from the backlash of the bow earlier that made me take things a tad slower than usual.
Or maybe I was not that romantically inclined as I was always with books and so on. At least I wasn't treated like some noble kids where they met their fathers once upon entering the world and the next would be on their 6th birthday before they were shoved towards some boarding schools and not being able to enjoy their fair share of a motherly's or fatherly's love.
Hmm... The medieval period during that time among the nobles and their children were quite cruel, don't you think so? They might be apprehensive if their parents' love in the shape of gold coins...!
As the night wore on, there was still some activities at the sawmill as the group of men were making sufficient wooden poles that would later be fitted with a pikehead. At the meantime, a blunt edge would be used for training, likewise the wooden swords too.
Another group of men were making the wooden aspis as one after another took shape and would be ready to be deployed for the training that would be ensured in the days to come.
Thinking back, I still have my unused short sword that had been sharpened but left aside for nearly a year and from tomorrow onwards, I would be taking up my trusted short sword soon enough. I intend to be trained in both archery and swordsmanship and to ensure that I levelled up both proficiency at the same time.
I thought to myself — Be Prepared To Protect Your Loved Ones And The Land...!
After I tossed and turned in bed, I finally found the best position before I dozed off while slightly snoring. Luckily Heather was not a bit disturbed with my tossing and turning as she had grown accustomed to it. As we both were not light sleepers, we soon fell asleep, each sprawled on the bed and not looking one bit like a royal at all...!
The patrolmen clanged on the large bamboo wind chimes at the courtyard as well as along the streets at the residential areas and awoke the residents when they were on the last rounds of the patrol.
The group of men stopped their work and cleaned up their workplace. The bakers had mostly completed the job in the supplies of bread to the 15 towns and would be carried on by the morning shift bakers later on.
Very soon, even when most of the work was already at a lull, the residents still dutifully awoke themselves as they prepare for the day ahead.
Besides, the operation for the grains drying at the kiln was on full swing 24 hours a day as everything had to be accounted for before the start of winter. By then, it would leave only for the drying of hay which would need the least attention as it could be done in the last part of the day.
From the looks on the residents today morning, it seemed that they were excited to start the day filled with training as the majority of their main tasks had been completed. There's no planting or harvesting to be done and only a small group of people were left manning the grains drying kiln, the group of bakers as well as the men in the Saw Mill.
Suddenly, a shout followed by a few more shouts sounded in the courtyard as a familiar figure was standing on top of a small keg to get his voice across.
"Hear ye... Hear ye... Winter is just 30 days away and keep yourself warm, folks...!"
It was Samuel... No wonder he was considered as a lunatic. But with his ability to perfectly predict the end of autumn and the start of winter astonishes me since he also would be able to tell some parts in the near future as well.
Ah well, we would just continue to monitor his weird antics though...!
