Next Patient, Please...

Isabela was walking up and preparing some refreshments with the nurses on standby for themselves and the 2 militia invalids that had been the second and third inpatient cases in the infirmary and both of the patients were propped up on the beds near the station and next to one another. At least, if the patients were bored of not being entertained by the sometimes introvert Isabela and the nurses, the patients could always find something else to do. At least the two militia invalids that were being chosen by Isabela this time would not have their motor skills impaired and they would be able to sit up, walk around and be less attended to by the nurses. Nevertheless, their head injuries were not to be scoffed at even though it may look light from the exterior, but the damage was quite serious within. Besides, both patients were classified as 'fall hazard' so they were constantly advised to sit up on the bed after being horizontal for some time to stabilise their flow of blood. Michelle helped Isabela to record down the patient case file that day. It was a one-time session to find out the actual occurrence that made those two blokes to be sent back from the frontline. One of them named Gary related how he sustained his head injury when he happened to be bludgeoned by the enemies as their supply lines were ambushed on the wee hours of the morning. He was logistic personnel and was not meant to be fighting on the front lines but was an advanced party to be delivering vital supplies to the front line such as food and drink supplies. He explained that the Army had a few supply likes and that could be made up of food supplies that he was in charge of, some were weapons and armours, while some were also supplies for medicine. He related now unfortunate he was when his supply line got hit as the enemies thought that the first logistic support that came was weapons and armour but instead was food and drinks for the frontline soldiers. Gary then informed Isabela that he was experiencing spinning and instability when he was standing still and at the verge of collapsing. Since Isabela was not a medical staff she was not able to diagnose the issue but she informed Michelle that it was a head trauma. "Don't worry Uncle Gary, we would be looking into your matter soon. Just have a good rest tonight and don't stay up too late." Isabela patted Gary's hand as she moved to the other bed where another militia invalid with a head injury was lying down. "Hello, Missy... My name is Hugh and I've got this injury due to an impact blast from a catapult in the front line." the second man reported immediately as Isabela sat next to the bed as Michelle was ready to take down notes. Hugh then related to how he got his injury in the front line when his platoon that was manning the fortifications was besieged by the enemies. After several missed attempts of being bombarded by rocks from the catapult, one of the projectiles got lucky and had blasted through an embrasure where he just about to take a sip of tea thus ending his observation. He was one of the archers' scouts with an excellent long rage sight to detect abnormal enemy movements in the distance. Of course, this would be possible with the aid of a device called a spyglass. Hugh rattled on about the spyglass that was a portable telescope that could fit nicely inside the tunic pockets. It's about 10 inches long and it's a fixed-length tube with some glass on both ends, one for viewing from it while the other to focus on the distance. After he had animatedly explained about his duty as well as how he got the injury, he moved into his medical complications next and reported the similar experiences as his buddy had and added something like fainting spells, blacking out and palpitations too. Hugh explained that he would get these 3 experiences if he had too much of drink... Isabela was like "..." Michelle was also like "..." That's not a medical complication... That's the after effect of binge drinking, you old coont...! After noting down the notes and it through with Old Kayla and an assistant nurse, Michelle had done her part and made her way back to her house. Since the Gracehaven's First Tailor and Loom had ceased the manufacturing of the bamboo chick, Michelle opts to be part of Gracehaven's patrol team instead. Eagle approved of her request as she would be doing it on alternative evenings. "We would be taking the old bandages off and be taking a look at the extent of their injuries, shall we? We would be attending to Gary first before we moved on to Hugh and once you have accessed the damage, we could rewrap their injuries with a fresh pair of bandages next." Old Kayla suggested as Isabela hummed her acknowledgement and soon the two of them got busy. The nurse at the dispensary prepared some disinfectant and ointment that were homemade remedy courtesy of the herbalist and some swabs and bandages while a nurse placed the wooden partition between the two patient beds. The nurses at the infirmary were not actually medical staffs as well but were made up of herbalists that had practically nothing to do since their first phase of gathering the herbs and planting them in the herbal Garden had passed. So to make up the numbers in the infirmary these herbalists volunteered to be in standby there, even though there had been nothing much to do in the past few weeks. And now with the emergence of Isabela as one of the main healer or 'Doctor', she had gained the confidence of having the first patient to be able to regenerate his amputated leg and be able to walk normally again. So for these 2 blokes with the head injury... Won't it be easy for someone to chop their heads off and replace with a chicken head instead? Muuaaahahaha... =*= The procedures were immediately executed and the bandages had been removed. After the old wounds had been cleaned and patches of their hair had been trimmed to view the extent of the damage, old Kayla advised that the wounds be covered up again. There was no festering or malodour on those wounds but as what Old Kayla had mentioned, the blunt force trauma on their heads may have made a few screws loose. Isabela nodded and informed that since there was no loss of any parts such an ear or an eye, the procedures would be rather brisk. These men would be up and about within 3 days at least. "Alright, my child. You go on ahead and do your work well. We would be assisting you during the intervals. Would you need my help at certain times, just give me a holler, ya hear?" "Yes, Old Kayla... I will seek for your assistance when we need them. Besides we have 3 staffs here so they would be able to lend a hand and also to monitor these men for us." Isabela reassured Old Kayla and the 3 nurses echoed their agreements as well. It was about 8 in the evening before Isabela got to work on those patients after they had their supper. "Would we be as normal again without the health complications?" Hugh looked at Isabela and back to his buddy when he asked the question to Isabela as the latter soon reassured them by saying, "Just like the day before you all got injured, alright?" As Isabela imbued her abilities on the injured heads, she was able to visualise the structure of her intended target, the extent of damage that had sustained in her mind as she began to 'fix' those nerves and other whatnot back in place.
