CHAPTER 5: BLOOD AWAKENS

780 Words
⸻ Kael woke to silence. No birdsong. No wind. No heartbeat beneath him. Vaelen was gone. Panic sparked instantly. He sat up too fast, pain flaring in his hips, thighs aching from the night before. The scent of their bond clung to the air—spice, smoke, and s*x—but something else had crept in beneath it. A deeper hum. A shadow in his veins. His skin was too warm. His blood, too fast. He looked down at his hands. And saw the faint shimmer beneath his skin. Not silver, not gold—violet. Flecks of it pulsed along his veins like starlight moving under flesh. He pressed his fingers to his chest, to the mark Vaelen had carved with his teeth. It burned. But not with heat. With power. Kael stumbled to his feet, furs falling around him, and crossed to the edge of the clearing. The world felt different—more open, as though every tree, every stone was whispering his name. Then he heard it. Voices. Muffled, distant, but unmistakable. Vaelen. Kael followed the sound, stepping barefoot through moss and shadow until he reached a ridge. Below, in a sun-dappled clearing, Vaelen stood face-to-face with a cloaked figure. Not Theren. Someone else. Older. “I told you,” Vaelen snarled. “He’s mine. You’re not touching him.” The stranger raised his head, hood falling back to reveal a scarred face and hollow, glowing eyes. “You don’t know what you’ve bonded to, blackblood. He isn’t just an omega. He’s the heir.” Kael froze. “What heir?” Vaelen demanded. The old alpha turned toward the ridge, eyes locking with Kael’s. He didn’t smile. He bowed. “Your blood calls to the deep,” the stranger said. “The Aurelian line has awakened.” Kael staggered back, heart thundering. Aurelian. The name was ancient. A royal omega bloodline, long thought extinguished during the Purge. Legends said they were born of gods, their bodies capable of carrying not just life—but magic itself. Their heats were rare. Their bonds, unbreakable. And their power— Was feared. Vaelen was suddenly beside him, hands gripping his arms. “You shouldn’t have come,” he growled. “You heard?” Kael nodded, eyes wide. “I didn’t know,” Vaelen said, almost pleading. “If I had—I would have still taken you. I would have still marked you. But I would have done it slower. Softer.” Kael trembled. “You bonded me before you knew what I was.” “I bonded you,” Vaelen said, cupping his face, “because every part of me screamed you were mine.” Kael leaned into the touch. But the air between them had shifted—charged with something deeper. Not just lust. Not just dominance. Destiny. “What does it mean?” Kael whispered. “If I’m Aurelian?” Vaelen’s jaw clenched. “It means they’ll hunt you harder. It means the bond we share will grow faster. Stronger. It means your body will change.” Kael’s heart pounded. “Change?” Vaelen pressed a hand to Kael’s lower belly. “You’re not just carrying my seed. You’re carrying legacy. And they’ll do anything to stop it.” Kael exhaled shakily. “What if I’m not strong enough?” Vaelen kissed him—slow, reverent. “Then I’ll be strong for you. I will tear kingdoms apart to protect you. I don’t care who you are, Kael. I only care that you’re mine.” The bond surged, thick and hot, wrapping around them like a coil. Kael gasped as another pulse of heat hit him—sudden, sharp, deeper than before. His body arched, knees buckling. Vaelen caught him instantly. “f**k,” he hissed. “Your heat’s accelerating. The bloodline’s pushing it forward. It wants you bred.” Kael moaned, clinging to him. “Then do it.” Vaelen growled, scooping him up, carrying him back to the nest like a beast with its prize. “You think you’ve felt my claim?” Vaelen whispered, laying Kael down and stripping his own clothes. “You haven’t felt anything yet.” Kael gasped as Vaelen’s c**k pressed against him—thicker, harder than before. He was already leaking, body desperate. “Mark me again,” Kael begged. “Remind the blood who I belong to.” Vaelen’s snarl shook the trees. He sheathed himself in one brutal thrust, knot swelling fast, heat crashing over them both. Kael screamed as the bond deepened—roots sinking into his soul, his womb, his magic. Power exploded behind his eyes. And somewhere, far away, something ancient heard his cry. ⸻
