Midnight gospel

Dante I laid in my bed, swaying side to side restlessly. My mind wouldn't stop playing images of Cassie leaning over me, naked. Her perky breast swinging in my face and her heated cinnamon breath from her lipstick fanning my face. For some reason, I couldn't stick her face to her body. It was too cold to be riled up by my own impure s****l thoughts. I needed a distraction. At once, I threw my feet on the wooden floor board and went in for a quick shower. Under the beating water, I thought about things to keep me busy that didn't involve work. I had an important discussion with Isabella concerning the divine guests but I decided to leave it for sunrise. It was just a couple of hours ahead anyways. I took the time to stroll through the hallways my old mansion to familiarize myself with the old lady. It has been years since I last walked these halls, and it was safe to say nothing much changed. The old floorboards still creaked loudly under pressure and some parts of the old mansion remained engulfed in darkness for its lack of usage. As for strange sightings of spirits that was started by Collins, I had Isabella take care of that. The persistent attacks by our enemies was the reason why I chose a witch as my housekeeper. Even though it was illegal by the law that governed all of the werewolf territories in the south. I descended to the first floor after feeling a pull to head downstairs. Perched by the window was a young lady in white flowing satin gown and pitch-black hair that fell all the way to her back. I was startled. For a second, I assumed she was a ghost until Laura's scent gently drifted across the room, tickling my nostrils into recognition. I was going to take some time getting used to her. I revealed my presence by probing her directly. Laura was startled at first before we fell into an awkward conversation. I got to find out two things; she had been looking for Cassie, which was why she was out here past midnight, and she had a nightmare of the Hill. My restlessness and sudden need to be down here finally made sense. "I thought I had more time..." I muttered in realization. My feet redirected my steps toward my study. "More time for what??” She beckoned after me. "Follow me." I replied. It was time she knew what and who she was up against. "The Hill of Levine is a dark world between ours and the vine where the divine guests come from. It is the veil at the center." I began explaining as we stepped into a quiet hallway that echoed my voice throughout. "The hill I was taken to? That's the Hill of Levine?” "Yes." We made a short left. "Uhm...i-didn't we just pass by your study like a hallway ago??” Laura stuttered, sounding nervous. Her steps slowed down. I turned around to assure her."This is one is different." My goal was to reassure her but it only seemed to unsettle her even more. "You don't trust me." I stated. She shook her head abruptly, "No! That's not what—” "Good. You shouldn't." I added abruptly, not letting her finish whatever it was she had to say. She looked shell shocked. "I shouldn't trust you??” "Modaine said the same thing.” Laura said. I rolled my eyes. "Well, she might be stick in the butt but she's right I'm afriad." "You shouldn't trust anyone, except you feel it in your guts to. But you can trust me and Isabella. For now, we are all you have." I pressed against the wall, feeling the hollowness behind the wall. I found the secret lever beneath the large oil painting on the wall and opened up a secret door sealed into the wall. It revealed a dark, dust filled staircase that smelt like wet clothes. "Oh my...where are you taking me?” I switched the lights on, illuminating the path ahead of us. "To my actual study, as a werewolf." We walked down into the basement. The lights flickered. I heard a muffled squeak from Laura which made me turn around. "Did that scare you?” I failed at hiding my disgust. "No..." She lied through her teeth whiling looking away. I rolled my eyes. Go easy on her. I heard Isabella's voice in my head. "Take a seat. We have a lot to discuss." There were a few chairs still scattered around from the last time I was down here with a few people from the pack. "Cassie might be—” "Cassie wouldn't be the one dying or turning out to be the cause of her entire werewolf clan being wiped out by our enemies." I shut down whatever concerns she was having about her friend. It seemed she was still unaware of how much was at stake. I shrugged, going back to find the large scroll that held the prophecy. Laura didn't sit like I had ordered her to. Instead, she trailed the basement layer, getting lost behind tall dusty shelves. "Laura..." I called out to her but didn't get any reply. "Laura!” She rushed back into the open space. "I am sorry, I got distracted by this thing—” She gazed at the object in her hand with fully curious eyes. It was the prophecy scroll I was searching for. "How did you find it?” She raised her eyes to me."I think it...found me?” She stared down at it again, examining the posterior and anterior end, clearly searching for a way to open it. "Hand it over." Laura did as I ordered. "The scroll has been locked with a code. A code only I know about, and it has been in my family for over 250 years." "One of the key prophecies about the scroll—which for the longest time felt like a myth—was that it would find the elemental wolf if they were in the same room." Her eyes widened in realization. "Yes, you are definitely who the prophecy talks about. That's what the divine guests came here for. They detected the same blood in your veins that drew you to the scroll because they wrote it themselves." Laura stumbled backward, her hands crawling into her hair as she tugged at it. It was clear frustration was beginning to set in. "Elemental wolf. Scroll. Prophecies. What does all that have to do with the hill that sunk me in my dreams?” Laura asked, looking painfully lost. I remembered Isabella's words about going easy on her. She was only 18, and was just learning about who she truly was. "You might want to take a seat for this one," I dragged another chair and placed it opposite the one I ushered her to, "take a seat, Laura." She lowered herself to the chair "Every elemental wolf is required to walk through the veil, and into the Vine of the divine guests who are our ancestors before us. This is the only way an elemental wolf can assume all the power they have been given to liberate our dying clan." "Now let's talk about the people who want you dead."
