Third person's POV
The ride to the Beta's house was extremely quiet but Suzy couldn't care less about it. Just as he had said, Tony had somehow found a way to get them to the party—a way that didn't involve running after a bus—and even though Suzy was curious, she was also highly grateful.
Usually, rides were supposed to consist of sight seeings and other fun things that involved poking heads outside the window but with Suzy's lack of sight, all she could rely on was her imagination. And since it had been constantly filled with unpleasant things, Suzy had no control over the unwelcome thoughts that started filing up in her head.
The most vivid image in her subconscious was the last pictures she had seen before the world went blank forever. The road had been free on that day, there had been lot of trees along the way and Suzy had been captivated by the sight. At seven, life was very colourful and she was having the time of her life.
"How about we stop for some ice cream before heading back to the office?" Her dad's voice had interrupted the object counting contest she had been having with herself and the road but the interruption had been very much welcome. "Or you don't want to?" The second question had been a tease and the smile on his face had confirmed it.
"Yes!" Suzy had yelled with as much vigour as her little lungs could allow and she had watched her father's smirk blossom into a full blown smile. Anyone who was close to Suzy was well aware of her love for ice cream and that love had somehow driven her dad to his demise but how could she had known?
A smile broke out on Suzy's face as she remembered how excited she had been to accompany her dad for a drive after she had spent most of the day cooped up in his office. He had been asked to run an errand that he called very special and she had been eager to tag along.
"Are you okay?" Tony's voice sounded from a far away place as he nudged her slightly, bringing her back to the present. "What's wrong?" He inquired, taking her hand in his. Anthony was not a very affectionate person but years of dealing with Suzy had softened him in ways he couldn't even explain.
Sniffling loudly, Suzy shook her head, "Nothing is wrong, Tony." She deadpanned, turning her head so she would face the other side—the side she hoped would keep her face hidden from him. "When are we going to get to the party?" She asked instead, attempting to change the topic.
Tony's eyes swept over her and concern spread over his face but he didn't to let her be. "We should be arriving in a few minutes, don't worry." His voice sounded reassuring, causing Suzy to let out a gust of air. Once again, Tony squeezed lightly on her hand as he leaned over, whispering close to her ears, "You'll do just fine, Suze. Relax."
Suzy was about to ask him why he felt she was anxious when she realized he could see her face and her anxiety must have been evident on it. It completely sucked that everyone could see her expressions when she couldn't but if it was any compensation, Suzy was glad she didn't have to worry about faking her expressions for anyone.
"We're here, you can come down now." Someone—who Suzy concluded was the driver—announced from somewhere in the car in a gruff voice and Tony slightly tugged on Suzy's hand. The anxiety she had failed to mask slowly started creeping into her as she grabbed hold of her cane and waited for Tony to get out of the car.
"Be careful, Suze." Tony called out to her as he helped her out of the car. The driver person was very oddly patient and after successfully getting out of the car, Tony turned his attention to the man to express his gratitude. "Thank you so much, Sir." He said as he held on firmly to Suzy's hand.
The man said something incoherent in response to Tony's appreciation as he closed the door and walked around to the driver's side of the car. Just like before, Suzy realized this Samaritan had also not said anything but she decided to focus on other pressing matters.
Shoving aside the events that had led to her arrival at the party, Suzy willed herself to focus on the task at hand. The only reason she had hauled her blind self so far away from home was because of this moment and she was ready to make the most out of the opportunity she had been given.
Loud music welcomed Suzy as she walked into the yard, assisted by her brother and her trusty cane. She was well aware of the fact that she was meant to perform at a party but she had not expected it to be this loud. "I'm so glad you could make it, Susan!" A man cried out from somewhere in the compound, stopping Suzy in her tracks.
The voice sounded very familiar but without a face to place it out, Suzy had no other option but to wait for him to introduce himself. "We were growing tired waiting for you, Susan," the man added stiffly as his voice drew closer to where they were standing. "But it doesn't matter anymore, you're here now."
Something that sounded very much like a growl floated towards Suzy out of nowhere and instinctively, she turned around sharply and crashed—once again—into the hard chest of someone. "Seems like we met again, Blondie." Suzy recognized the voice immediately it got to her ears but once again, she couldn't place out who the speaker was.
"You know each other?" The first person asked with a hint of amusement in their voice and Suzy wanted nothing more than to be able to see the exchange that was going on in front of her. She waited for the man to say something else so she could decipher where she had heard the voice from, but no response came and the first person continued anyways, "Where did you guys meet?"
A deep chuckle filled the air before a response followed the suite after what seemed like an eternity, "It's quite amusing," he replied lazily, and Suzy could hear the sound of footsteps meeting asphalt as the man walked in her direction. "This is the exact same way we met each other." The footsteps stopped just a few feet away from Suzy and she unconsciously held her breath as she waited for what was to follow.
"Well," the unnecessarily loud man—who somehow knew her—called out, stopping whatever Suzy had been anticipating—even if she wasn't sure what it was. "It doesn't matter where the both of you met," he pointed out sternly. "She's my guest and she's here to perform for me." He sounded cold and somewhat defensive and it made Suzy even more confused than she already was.
"Good day, Beta Andrew," Tony spoke up for the first time since their arrival, shedding a little light on Suzy's confusion. "I'm so sorry we're late Sir, there had been an unavoidable situation." He added flatly. Suzy couldn't believe she had been standing in front of the Beta all along and she had not said anything at all.
"It's fine, Susan," the Beta responded, directing his statement at Suzy instead. "The party has started already, are you going to be performing now?" The question was aimed at her just like his statement had been and Suzy felt her breath hitch in her throat.
The only reason she was in the Beta's house was because of her performance, but as Suzy stood in front of the Beta and this strange wolf, she felt a form of hesitance. There was no doubt that she was eager to get on the stage and display her wondrous talent for everyone to partake of, but something in her wanted to stay and talk to the man.
Dragging a slight breath to steady herself, Suzy replied, "Yes, Beta Andrew, I am ready whenever you are." Her voice wavered a bit and the cane in her hand felt slimy due to her sweaty palm. She had no idea why she was suddenly nervous but she had a feeling it was somehow related to the man who could have been the person who shoved her aside or the one who helped her back to her feet.
The Beta let out a small whoop that brought a smile to Tony's face and which also made Suzy ease up slightly. "Alright then," he finally said, reaching for Suzy's hand. "Let's go show them what you can do." His words were accompanied with actions and before Suzy could understand what was going on, she was already been led someplace else.
Suzy sat quietly on a chair she had carefully been placed on by the Beta and listened as he barked out orders to his people to get her ready for her performance. This was the first big gig she had ever gotten, it wasn't everyday she got to perform for such an influential family, but as odd as it was, she couldn't get her mind off the strange wolf.
