Allison knew that her sister’s presence had annoyed Matthew, and he might be cooling off in his study room.
The way Yvonne even dared to mention Marco’s name in front of him is despicable.
Like how she felt now, Allison had always been intimidated by Matthew’s cold stance. He always had a short temper, and she was afraid she might lash his anger at her. So, Allison decided to go back to her room.
Meanwhile, Matthew had seen and heard everything that had happened in the dining hall. Unknown to Allison, there were hidden security cameras in the common spaces of the villa. When Matthew left the dining hall, he went to his study to monitor the conversation between Allison and her sister.
He would be lying if he said Allison’s response did not satisfy him. Until last night, he seriously thought Allison had not moved on from her ex-boyfriend.
Allison claimed that she suffered from selective amnesia because of the accident. He talked to experts, and they told him that Allison had undergone a traumatic experience and her brain may be pushing those traumatic events away.
Matthew is concerned that when those memories come back, Allison will remember how she feels for Marco and decides to be with him again.
On the other hand, he understands Allison. Maybe from her point of view, he suddenly came to wreck her relationship with Marco. If he remembered it right, Allison vented her anger at him a day before they registered for their wedding. Matthew could still hear how she confessed her undying love for Marco and cursed him for ruining their relationship.
Matthew replayed the scenes between Allison and Yvonne.
Is Allison aware of the hidden cameras? Or is she just playing it safe, knowing this is the lion’s lair?
Matthew had also watched earlier how Allison moved around his kitchen that morning. She acted as if she knew exactly where the kitchenware was. Scott had even asked him to confirm if she had amnesia. If he did not know any better, she would think Allison had gone through his house to spy on him.
His lips twitched into a smile when he realized how silly his thoughts sounded. Matthew stared at the screen and saw Yvonne, who was left alone in the dining hall, obviously pissed.
He knows that Yvonne always tries to manipulate and use Allison’s innocence to her advantage, and this was the only time that he witnessed Allison standing out for herself. He couldn’t help but wonder if the scene he had just witnessed was only a part of an elaborate plan and if Yvonne had just coaxed Allison to act her part.
Whatever the case, he was determined to find out. Yvonne had already left the dining room. She is now standing in the middle of the vast living room and staring at the second floor. She looked like someone who would do something despicable. Matthew alerted Scott, and soon, he was escorting her out of the manor.
Matthew planned to talk to Allison about her supposed meeting with Marco, but he had just received a call about an urgent matter in the Milan branch. Although the meeting would be via teleconference, the documents he needs are left in his office. Matthew wasn’t able to talk to Allison before he left.
While in the middle of the teleconference, Matthew monitors what's happening in the manor. He saw Allison come out onto the balcony in her room.
She was on her phone, but he could not hear what he was saying because the audio was on mute, so he could focus on the meeting. He noted the timestamp and made a mental note of watching the recorded file later.
Back at the manor, Allison had always liked the view from the balcony of her room. When she learned that Matthew had gone to the office and that she would be alone for lunch, she decided to have a late lunch on the balcony, facing the lake. She contented herself watching a flock of eiders swimming in it.
Her mood turned sour when her phone rang, revealing Marco’s name on the screen.
Although she expected the call, she could not stop herself from feeling angry. Allison knew that when Mellissa left, she would not stop there. Everything she told her earlier was part of her plan.
Allison knew her step-sister did not want to be at the losing end, so she tried hard to make her feel that. Allison had almost lost everything to Yvonne-- Marco, her career, and her money. Yvonne was too greedy, she even tried to take away from her the chance to live a peaceful, married life.
If her recollection was correct, their plan to ruin her marriage started from the moment she agreed to meet with Marco.
Now is her chance to reverse it. Allison took a deep breath before she answered the phone. She smirked when Marco tried to lure her with flowery words and empty promises.
“Babe, why were you not answering my call? I have been waiting to talk to you since I heard of your recovery!” Marco took a pause then said, “You know I love you, right? Not even your marriage to that jerk can stop me from loving you.”
Allison tightened her jaw. She felt embarrassed thinking about how he used to manipulate her thoughts and emotions with those words.
Allison played along and acted naive. Then, he told Marco to wait for her and meet her in the same hotel room where they always meet. Marco readily agreed, not knowing what was waiting for him.
Then, Allison contacted Noah. His brother works as a part-time model and has connections to the media. She gave him the place and time and instructed him to spread the word to his media friends about a possible scoop. Noah pressed her for a piece of detailed information, but he told her to just meet her there. Now that her plans have been set, Allison’s only problem is how she would get to the place and make it happen.
Back at Matthew’s firm, the teleconference had just ended. Matthew instructed Tristan Mortiz, his assistant, to close the door to his office and not let anyone enter. He had a hunch that Allison was talking with Marco on that phone call.
He put on his earphones, turned the volume on, and watched the recording.
His expression turned grim when he confirmed his suspicions. He cursed when he heard Allison setting up the time and place of her meeting with Marco. They were going to meet at seven in the evening, and it is now four in the afternoon. If he leaves now, he still has time to keep her at home.
Matthew did not bother to watch and listen to the rest of the recording. He gathered his things and instructed Tristan to drive him straight home.
When he opened the door, he saw Allison was about to get off the elevator, wearing a stunning red dress. She looked alluring to him, even though she was seated in her wheelchair.
“Are you going somewhere?” Matthew feigned ignorance.
